Good evening, aut/o/. I'm saving up and about to buy my first car ever (on my own), and I just can't decide what would suit me best. The truth is, I don't have much of an idea when it comes to autos, especially in these makes and models. Insight or general advice would be most appreciated.
My requirements include:
- AWD/4X4
- Manual transmission
- Small / Mid sized
- 50k to 150k miles
- $2000 to $7000, could pay more but would have to be compelled.
- Something I can drive moderately rough without worrying about it crapping out.
- Inside connected, not a truck.
Right now I'm contemplating Subaru (outback, forester, ...?), Jeep (Cherokee,...?), Honda CRV, Toyota Rav4. I'm not really familiar with other make/models that provide what I need. I need something to go to the mountain with, in the snow and dirt, but don't need a rock crawler or beast.
Should I get a wagon, or a mid sized suv?

Because typically outside of drifting scenes it doesn't make sense to do such a thing to your car especially when FWD cars have excessive camber since it literally makes no sense functionally.
It's also that making a "Show car" out of a higher performance car like bagging an M3/Supra/GTR/etc makes the performance part pointless and at that point you bagged it just as a status thing when you could have done it do any 3 series instead of taking away an M3 from someone who would actually use it.

the outback sport has the elder god tier 2.2 liter EJ22. No head gasket issues, and the spark plugs are not at the end of the heads so they are easily accessible. also, lesbians prefer the outback and the forester.

I bought it about 5 months ago.
The a40d automatic blew up a couple weeks ago and I'm just about done swapping it to a zf5 manual, ordered the clutch master cylinder this morning for the pedal swap.
