>Less than a year after a devastating motorcycle wreck that friends say left him muddled and struggling, Keith Lamont Scott was shot to death by Charlotte police officers who said he refused to drop a gun.
>"They don't do well in stressful situations," said Dr. David Brody, professor of neurology , "there's no way a patient with a TBI who doesn't know the difference between right and wrong should own a gun or drive a car."
>Scott's final moments also were recorded by his wife, Rakeyia, in a video shared widely on social media. She can be heard shouting to police that her husband "doesn't have a gun, he has a TBI." She pleads with the officers not to shoot before a burst of gunfire can be heard.
>Police Chief Kerr Putney said officers recovered a gun Scott had in his possession, but none of the videos conclusively shows that. Scott's mother maintains he was holding a Quran.
Motive? >Court documents also show Scott's wife filed a restraining order a month before his accident, when she said he threatened to kill her and her son with a gun and hit the boy with his fist. Rakeyia Scott warned law officers then to be aware that he "carries a 9mm black" gun, and checked boxes to indicate her husband had neither a county-issued permit to buy a handgun nor a state permit to carry a concealed handgun. Rakeyia Scott later dropped her request.

>Filing a restraining order on your husband.

What's the point? Might as well just divorce the guy.
>>
>>76763
Depending on the state, an RO can count as a finding of domestic violence and can have serious implications for things like child custody, spousal support and so on. It can be a wise strategic move pre-divorce if you're inclined to think of it that way, though it could also be the case that she filed it because of some legit reasons and then later withdrew it for other legitimate reasons (including settlement or the parties agreeing to see a counselor or whatever).

>>
>>76773
And to follow up, even in states where they can count as a DV finding, RO's generally have a pretty low standard of proof and don't necessarily require a finding of actual physical violence, it could be as simple as she wanted to be separated and he said no and wouldn't let her move out or something. The "restraint" on a restraining order often more than just "stay 100 ft away," it can encompass a whole range of conduct to be prohibited.

Hi anons. I am a foreigner who is not very expirienced about nuances of internal politics in the US. And I have a question to users of this board: how would you describe this media?

http://www.motherjones.com/

Is it human-rights oriented? Leftist? Communist? Ultra-liberal? Is it really non-commercial or it is a fraud?

Thank you for answering!

Its plausible deniability.
Honest enough people believe it, but it ignores the key (((elements))) and instead obfuscates along political lines that they subscribe to. Generally they would be described as somewhat leftist, ultra-liberal.

Mother Jones is known in America for being a fairly left of center policy oriented magazine. They are most famous for originating the Mitt Romney "47%" story during the last election.

http://www.csmonitor.com/Science/2016/0927/Did-your-zodiac-sign-change-Don-t-worry-NASA-says-astrology-is-still-fake

>All over the world, people check their horoscopes to see what's in store for them for the day.

>For most, it is an entertaining, meaningless diversion, but a few genuinely believe in their predictions based on their astrological signs sign.

>But NASA is causing waves in the astrological community for its recent suggestion that the astrological signs – constellations that are at a certain point in the sky for certain point in the year – have changed as the Earth's axis has shifted over the centuries. The uproar was such that NASA's tumblr felt compelled to release an explanation for the story, emphasizing that astrology is a pseudoscience.

>The root of the uproar was apparently an article in Cosmopolitan magazine that claimed that a NASA article had shaken up the zodiac calendar, and that 86 percent of the star signs people think that they were born under were now incorrect. NASA's "correction" of the zodiac calendar also included a 13th constellation, Ophiuchus, adding further fuel to the viral wildfire that quickly spread across the internet.

>According to the NASA post (meant for children) that began the hubbub, the Earth's axis has changed in the 3,000 years since the zodiac was first invented. As a result, the constellations over which the sun appears to move over have shifted over time. It also pointed out that the sun also moves over a 13th constellation, which the Babylonians deigned not to include in the zodiac in order to preserve their 12-month calendar.

>None of this is new information, points out Phil Plait, of Slate Magazine. He notes that astrologers have been ignoring the 13th constellation for thousands of years, and that sun actually passes through up to 21 constellations, by some counts.

A Chinese man who had become fed up with job hunting resorted to drastic means to improve his job prospects.

The 30-year-old from Zhuzhou City, in China's Hunan province, reportedly underwent a breast enlargement procedure costing more than £4,500 as he thought women had better career prospects.

However, the man, surnamed Ho, was forced to have the implants removed just months later after it caused a rift in the family.

Ho was convinced that there were more career options open to women according to reports, which was why he opted for the cosmetic surgery.

He travelled to Changsha for breast enhancement surgery in August this year.

After his family discovered the surgery, he was forced to have the implants removed on September 26 according to Huanqiu, an affiliate of People's Daily Online.

At present, Ho is still recovering from the surgery to remove the implants.

Ho told a reporter from hunandushi.net, that the incident had caused him a lot of trouble.

The man said he has limited work experience and his job search had not been going well over the years.

He decided to change his appearance in the hope of finding a job.

The man's mother was furious after learning her son had borrowed over 39,000 Yuan (£4,558) for the surgery.

His mother said in the video report: 'I was so scared, how can it be like that? How can a man with such big boobs face others?'

She added: 'I can't tell you how many times I have cried in my room.'

She claims that Ho had a condition with his hearing after getting a concussion at the age of three. He reportedly has problems communicating with others.

His mother blamed the hospital for conducting the surgery without keeping the family informed.

Ho did not tell his family about the surgery at Ruilan Medical Cosmetic Hospital and borrowed cash for the procedure according to the report.

He said: 'I did not have enough money for the surgery, so I consulted the hospital.

'They told me I could pay for the surgery with a loan. They asked me to hand in my mobile phone and ID card.'

Ho claims that he agreed to have the surgery but denied that he had agreed to taking out a loan for the procedure.

He says that he has received calls from the lender every day, which almost led to him having a nervous breakdown.

A spokesperson from the Ruilan Medical Cosmetic Hospital told reporters: 'He is over 18 years old. He has signed the documents. He should be responsible for his actions.'

Li visited the hospital on October 2 for negotiations.

The hospital eventually agreed to waive their fees and offer compensation of 3000 Yuan (£350), reported Hunan Xiaoxiang Herald.

It is not yet to known if they have come to an agreement.

I apologize ahead of timr for the polemical tone:

Today's referendum will define how much political capital Orban will have at his disposal. It may even determine what kind of future he has as a leader on the European stage. Though this is ostensibly about the migrant crisis, it is in effect, a request for a mandate, permission if you will, to resist the diktats levied by the mandarins in Brussels. Perhaps I am giving this too much weight, but if the referendum is successful (despite it not being legally binding), Orban will cement his position as the leader of the "counter-revolution". On a larger scale, it would mark another victory for the forces of reaction throughout the West. If this is followed with successful bid by Herr Hofer, we could witness a coalscing of sorts, and in turn legitimization, of the "nativist" bloc. Granted, this all could begin to disapate if the Right doesn't gain more traction in the 2017 elections. However, as the demographic pressures from the global south do not seem to be abating any time soon, the reaction against multicultural societies (and the politicians who ride the wave populism) may be with us for the long haul.

What are your thoughts anon?

http://thehill.com/blogs/ballot-box/presidential-races/298577-trump-debate-was-rigged

>Donald Trump on Thursday said that the first presidential debate of 2016 against Hillary Clinton was "a rigged deal."

>During a campaign event in New Hampshire, Trump, the Republican nominee, said he had to fight with moderator Lester Holt on "everything I said."

>"Then I had to put up with the anchor and fight the anchor on everything I said. What a rigged deal, I tell you, we are in such a rigged syst — it is terrible. What's going on in this country is so sad. But it will change. Remember Nov. 8th."

>He also touted the nonscientific online polls that showed him as the victor of Monday's debate.

>The majority of scientific post-debate polls and focus group studies found that Clinton won the contest. The Democratic nominee has also gotten a slight bump in the polls.

>Trump previously warned that the election could be rigged and said that he'll only lose Pennsylvania, a key battleground state, "if cheating goes on." He also asserted that the presidential debates were rigged because two of the three contests were scheduled at the same time as NFL games.

>Trump has changed his tune on Holt since after the debate, when he initially said the anchor did a “great job” and asked questions that “were very fair.”
"When I first did it, I thought he was fine, I wasn’t thinking about it, but when I reviewed it and when I saw all of the commentary — because a lot of people thought he was terrible — and I looked at all of the commentary, I realized he was much, much tougher on me than he was on Hillary, it was like day and night," Trump said on Fox News's "The O'Reilly Factor."

As in the article, Trump stated that Leston Holt did "a great job" and that the questions were "very fair" after the debate: https://mobile.twitter.com/DylanByers/status/780608777062117377

This Trump's backup position
- If I lose a debate, it was rigged
- If I have a bad shit, it was rigged
- If I lose the election, it was rigged

Trump didn't start talking about the election being rigged until Alex Jones suggested he take that position.

Bad outcome - "It was rigged"
>>
It may not be rigged, but Holt did cover for Hillary hard when she had nothing to say and challenged Trump on every word he said. So there was some very clear bias going on. Not that I give a shit. Neither of these people inspire me with hope if they become president.

>An adviser and an assistant professor at the University of Houston showed support for providing students with an emotional first aid kit that would contain a baby blanket and candy among other things.

>Their backing of the emotional first aid kit is revealed in a Project Veritas video first obtained by The Daily Caller. James O’Keefe went undercover in late August as a member of the “99.9 percent” group and spoke to University of Houston psychology department advisor Bobbie Sue Schindler.

>“The stress of school gets to them. Like a bad grade, a missed class, being late, a microaggression, uhh whatever,” Schindler said to O’Keefe about the emotional distress University of Houston students face.

>Schindler expressed a liberal point of view when talking to O’Keefe and bemoaned that in her philosophy department there were “a bunch of white dudes running white dude things.” She was also disgusted at the idea of Breitbart tech editor Milo Yiannopoulos coming to campus and agreed that people like him should be banned.

The for-profit college chain ITT Technical Institute is shutting down all 130 of its U.S. campuses, saying Tuesday it can't survive recent sanctions by the U.S. Department of Education.

In a letter to more than 35,000 students, the Indiana-based parent company ITT Educational Services announced that campuses won't open for the fall term that was scheduled to begin Sept. 12 — leaving students scrambling for last-minute options since many U.S. colleges already have started fall classes. ITT also cut more than 8,000 jobs immediately.

The chain was banned Aug. 25 from enrolling new students who used federal financial aid, because, Education Department officials said, the company had become a risk to students and taxpayers. The department also ordered ITT to pay $152 million within 30 days to help cover student refunds and other liabilities if the chain closed.

Days before those sanctions were announced, ITT's accreditor reported the chain had failed to meet several basic standards and was unlikely to comply in the future. It had also been investigated by state and federal authorities who accused ITT of pushing students into risky loans and of misleading students about the quality of programs.

>“Police reflect the racism that’s in the broader society. And when we change, we will produce better police departments,” said Buford, 60.

>To help combat what he considers an illness at the root of many problems in the U.S. and other countries, Buford is inviting people in his Silicon Valley community of Sunnyvale and neighboring areas to come together in a series of 12-step meetings he’s calling Racists Anonymous.

>Buford considers racism “an addiction,” which is why he is modeling his meetings on the Alcoholics Anonymous program. As with any addiction, the first step is acknowledging you have a problem so you can take responsibility, he said.

>“Racism in the world is real. We should stop being in denial about it, the way an alcoholic is in denial about alcoholism. We should say instead — yup, we are racist, and we are working on it,” Buford said.

>The weekly Racists Anonymous meetings aim to facilitate frank conversations among people with different backgrounds about their prejudices, so that each participant can gradually change their “racist” behavior with support from their peers.

>At one recent meeting at Buford’s Congregational Community Church of Sunnyvale, 10 participants took turns introducing themselves.

>“I’m Josie and I’m a racist,” said an African-American woman.

>“I’m Morgan and I’m a racist,” continued a white man next to her.

Uh oh. The leftist boogeyman strikes again, even though none of these views are actually espoused by even a sizable minority of socially liberal individuals.

The solution is obvious: We need to institute a despotic, /pol/-driven state that imprisons or executes anyone who disagrees with 'race realism' or neoconservative viewpoints. That'll show those evil SJWs!

>>
>>73449
First, as a liberal I'll say that yes there are a lot of people on the left that think like this. In America, the Dems just nominated one to be president. SJWs have taken over the left, they are definitely not a small minority. I'm liberal on most things but I feel like I've been pushed out of the movement since so many of my liberal friends are feminists, and since most feminists actually are as bad as their reputation. Literally just an hour ago I saw a post on my FB feed of who I thought was a 'reasonable' feminist ranting about how her boss "mansplained" something at work today. And, again, we literally have an SJW as the favorite to win the presidency right now. Hell Obama just came out and played the woman card for her, once again claiming that people criticizing her are sexist. Ironic since 8 years ago they were saying his supporters were sexist for voting Obama

But second, you're right that /pol/ and Trumpers are definitely wrong when they think the way to combat SJWs is by stepping up their own bigotry. All they end up doing is making SJWs feel justified, and drive more moderates to support them. Imagine if Trump didn't have his bigotry, so many people would be turned off by Hillary's sexism that Trump would be ahead by 10 points. But since neither side can leave identity politics alone, both are hated.

>"A company controlled by Donald Trump, the Republican nominee for president, secretly conducted business in communist Cuba during Fidel Castro's presidency despite strict American trade bans that made such undertakings illegal. That's according to interviews with former Trump executives, internal company records and court filings."

>Eichenwald writes that documents reveal Trump's company spent at least $68,000 in 1998 for company executives to visit Cuba at a time when spending "even a penny in Cuba was prohibited without government approval."

>The company, with Trump's knowledge, ran the money through consulting firm Seven Arrows Investment and Development Corporation, according to the story.

>"Once the business consultants traveled to Cuba and incurred the expenses for the venture, Seven Arrows instructed senior officers in Trump's company, then called Trump Hotels and Casino Resorts, on how to make the venture appear legal by linking it after the fact to a charitable effort," according to Newsweek.

>The payment was made just before Trump – now the GOP nominee for president – made his first run at the White House by seeking the Reform Party nomination.

>"On his first day of that campaign, he traveled to Miami where he spoke to a group of Cuban Americans, a critical voting bloc in the swing state of Florida," Newsweek reports.

>"Trump vowed to maintain the embargo and never spend his or his companies' money in Cuba until Fidel Castro was removed from power. He did not disclose that seven months earlier Trump Hotels already had spent money sending consultants on the secret trip to conduct business in Havana."
...
>>
>MSNBC uncovered CSPAN footage of that speech, in which Trump told the group:

>"As you know, and the people in this room know better than anyone, putting money and investing money in Cuba right now doesn't go to the people of Cuba; it goes into the pockets of Fidel Castro. He's a murderer, he's a killer, he's a bad guy in every respect, and frankly, the embargo against Cuba must stand if for no other reason than if it does stand he will come down."
>>
Cuban guy here.

Yeah I don't care, still support him. Plenty of Americans find a way to sneak in there anyway, brute force or third party approach. No big deal, Cuba gets tourism from all over the world. The only sad aspect about the story is, the money goes to that government.

But so does the money of every Cuban who is forced to return to visit family, simply to deliver goods that they will ultimately be taxed on, especially electronics.

>WikiLeaks canceled a scheduled Tuesday announcement regarding information related to Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton, according to an MSNBC reporter.

>WikiLeaks canceled the event “due to security concerns,” according to MSNBC’s Jesse Rodriguez. He did not elaborate on the nature of the concerns, but later tweeted that Assange will appear via video at a Berlin press conference Tuesday morning.
