Here, I'll start: What do you all think of WitN so far? Would you prefer it over a different Fins quest, such as Nine lands?

Whatever.

As for WitN, I don't read it. I haven't had the time to catch up on a few quests, but will be spending my day doing so, so that I can properly discuss them.

Miracle's back though, so that's something I can participate in, if you wanna talk about it.

>What do you all think of WitN so far?
I reached thread 7 recently, I feel like the speed is picking up and there is more action. I like it. A bit less party interaction maybe, but it doesn't feel like it's lacking, so it's good.
I like that there's interaction between the other members of the party in the background. Not many quests do it.

>Would you prefer it over a different Fins quest, such as Nine lands?
TNL had a great party and great characters. WitN is a bit weaker in that aspect. Don't get me wrong, they're all fleshed out properly and all, but I liked the characters in TNL or in Trottingham more than in WitN.
They're still good characters and a pleasure to read. I think it's at least as good as the end of TNL in terms of adventure.

>>28886818
>But WitN is Nine Lands
I'm fairly sure if you ask about "TNL:TSM", nobody will know what you're talking about.
The actual name of the first chapter is "Tales of the Shovel Mare", right?

I completely agree. For whatever reason I can't put my finger on I just don't like it as much as previous Fins quests.

That being said I can spend hours coming up with characters and stories within Fins' setting. The entire setting has so much potential it blows my mind. My only complaint is that I don't know enough about the Nine Lands and my greatest fear is that I will never see it all.

What kind of quests do you prefer? Image? Text? Hybridized image and text? Do you like them to be lewd or should sexuality take a backseat to adventure?

>>
>>28887757
>What kind of quests do you prefer? Image? Text? Hybridized image and text?
Whatever works best for the quest. Any kind can work, any kind can be shit or detrimental to the quest.

Don't get me wrong, I love lewdness, but lewdness has to be earned. The harder it was to achieve the better. Not every mare should automatically lust for your cock just because you're the protagonist. Also quests focused around lewdness at the core tend to get boring pretty fast. When lewd happens, players should be excited to finally be able to do it. Lurkernon handled it pretty well in RGS in my opinion. Threads upon threads building the tension and then- well you know. I also like it when lewd scenes have some feel to them and are not just "brazzers".

Did you really just say that?

“Wait, so you're my great aunt?”
Good thing you didn’t call her cute.
>”Yes, I’m the good ol aunty Song Bird. You like the spell I put on the inventory? A little something for fun and make the life easier.”
The books flies back to the rest of the swarm.

Man you finally meet this mysterious aunty, and now she has to leave already?
This SUCKS.
“Can you not stay for a little longer? I want to know you a little better. Maybe we could have some fun.”
>”I mean I could stay a little longer. What do you want to do?”
How about.. Board games.
No to childish.
Hmm, poker?
No, you never were good at that.
You could of course try to lewd her…
>”I know what your thinking, and I let you know that as ghost I’m not really able to do kinky stuff.”
Well, that’s that.
“Uh, okay. Not that I would have thought about that…”
“Hahaha”
You try to hide your discomfort with the laughter.

“Well for once you could tell me a little more about yourself.”
>”Sure. In life I was a very reclusive magician. Mostly stuck to myself and studied. My research led me to the point where I managed to bind a animation spell into a transmutation circle. And that is how I got a house full of living furniture that follows my will. Lived a happy life, grew old and passed away.”

“So about that spell, is there a way to tone it down? Or maybe even up, you know for special occasions.”
>”The book contains everything you need to know. Once I have passed on the furniture will completely follow you, so if you don’t want them to give you a good rutting just tell them so.”

>”If you want I can stick around for the next couple of weeks till you fully moved in... So if you still want to have some fun,” she seductively whispers in your ear as she puts a hoof on your shoulder, “say why don’t we join together and ‘explore’ the rest of the home.”

Sure, I'd love to.

Also what inspired you to become a magician?

“Alright, sounds like fun. So can I ask what inspired you to become a magician?”
>”The books series about Starswirl the bearded. I always liked that as kid.”
“Oh nice, you know, you look a lot younger than I thought you would.”
>”Yeah, seems like your ghost looks like you want it to look. See I never had to many self esteem issues, so I look fine.”

And so you spend the rest of the day having some fun in the house.
You made sure to give the shower a good scrubbing.
It even can put out ectoplasma in addition to warm or cold water, very fascinating.

Then your make way to the pillows.
They had it coming.
You make sure to show them who’s boss in here.
Oh and the mattress was actually alive too.
It just was a little shy.
You work your hooves the best you can to make sure it overcums that.

After that your aunty suggest to play 3 minutes in heaven in the closet.
A little dark, but filled with a of drillers.
It made sure to take care of all the good holes, and even gave you a little shower.

Ghost pony even shows you a new way to learn.
You know that some ponies consider learning to be like hammering knowledge into your head.
But you never heard about sucking it in.

In the living room you ride it out for the rest of the day, until you pass out on the couch in there.

The next morning you're woken by knocking from the door.
It’s the executor of will who is checking if your still in the house.
Now with your deed done you can sign the ownership documents.
Ah you can’t wait for all the fun you will have in your new home.

I realized we never gave our good smelling drill mare a proper name. With what name do you want to sign the documents?

The end.
Thanks for playing.

Shame there are no pics for this epilogue.
>>
>>28889982
Even ignoring the lewds, that's a lot of time and potential actions that were completely ignored. this was a terrible place to put an epilogue. Although having our aunt's ghost show up[ and give us a guided tour does kinda rob the possibility of anything interesting happening. We had most of the house we hadn't explored and we haven't interacted with most of the furniture. We weren't given a chance to figure out anything about our aunt (other than her being a huge pervert) or to find out why everything in the house was so perverse. So much lost potential, and lewds.

I'm satisfied. Thanks for the fun little Halloween quest, you draw great poners, I really like your style. In case you were curious, my question was if this was based on an old story that horror lit nerds like me would know called "The Haunter and the Haunted or The House and The Brain" I've since figured out that it wasn't, since we never found a horny brain in a jar

You jerked of one piece of furniture and fucked another.
You uncovered the reason behind the strange furniture.
Beyond this point everything is just repeating to fuck whatever furniture comes your way, and going through the motions.

Also this was announced as a short quest.
I'm sorry, but what you seem to have expected goes over the boarder of what I consider to be a short quest.
I ended it here because from my point of view there would not be much more to uncover or any major new events.

Who is the best protagonist and why?
>>
>>28892898
Parcel. Interesting, humorous, and forward motivated without stealing any agency from the players.
>>
>>28892898
Sharpie, but that's just my opinion.

>>28892927
I actually find Parcel boring, but that's just my opinion again. He has a bad case of JAD. All the supporting characters are more interesting than him.
>>
>>28892936
I agree with both of these statements.
>>
>>28892898
The best MC is any pony such that they are in possesion of an actual personality comprised of both strengths and flaws, said strengths and flaws providing a framework within which players can operate and have a context for making their decisions, as opposed to just being a generic good-hearted adventure person who is just an empty vehicle for player ambitions.
>>
>>28892952
On that note, would you rather choose those strengths and flaws yourself during character creation, or do you only care that they're there a la premade.
>>
>>28892898
I would pick either Chalk Dust or Treads.
>>
>>28892996
Oh you poor bastard.
>>
>>28892952
Agreed.

>>28892986
Both is fine, but when building a character from scratch or modifying a "base model", there should be a good point system. Like "choosing a flaw gives you more skill points you can choose other strengths from". Doesn't have to be points though, it should just even out.
>>
>>28892986
Either, and they don't even have to be balanced. It can be fun to play a character with more flaws than good points. Sharpie comes to mind.

So rather than continue this train of making excuses every week, I think we'd all be better off if I just went ahead and accepted that I can't really devote the time and energy to running a quest right now. Or at the very least, not at the rate and schedule that I'd like to. The fact that FF's been limping along half-dead in terms of session frequency tells me it's been a long time coming anyway.

I really hate to leave things where they are, in the middle of a sort of non-event as it is, but moreso because nothing significant has really happened yet. With that in mind I may try and do a thread here or there to push things forward to a reasonable longer break stopping point, but I have no idea when that might be. Hopefully not so long that everyone forgets who everyone is and what was happening.

Thanks to everyone that enjoyed and participated in the quest so far, and I'm truly sorry for the way things have gone and that it took this long for me to quit jerking everyone around on whether I'd be running or not.

Vincent you bastard. You peice of shit. Is this still canon from CW?

>You left your mother and father to pursue your destiny and career as a musical teacher. They were quite the old, senile ponies and lived on the outskirt of the Crystal Empire. Your mother died peacefully of old age and did not live to see Sombra's Reich. You visited your father from time to time but he usually just spend his free time with his hobby, his special talent being diving for pearls under the ice. He was forced to join Sombra's army and the last you heard of him, he was on the frontlines of Manehattan battle.

You mean to say Aurora's elderly father was out to war and she has not once even thought of him? Not even once pondered the fate of her dear, dear father?

Other than that I plan on looking for the Ring of Destiny and the Chronicles of White Ink. Just a heads up.
>>
>>28901882
It's dead then.
A year of planning got you this, no extra time is going to magically make things better. You'll have the same fate as Sickpone or Delta or Into the white.

At best you'll be forgotten quickly.
At worst you'll show up occasionally to make empty promises about dates you'll never meet.

Believe it or not the whole >planning thing has nothing to do with the decision. I'm more or less satisfied with how the quest has gone so far, besides maybe being a bit slower than I'd have liked, but that's my own fault for a variety of reasons. It's everything |but| the quest that's giving me problems, and I've been having trouble balancing having the time to run with everything else that's going on in my life that I've avoided mentioning because who gives a fuck about that shit.

Besides, it's not like I'm really going anywhere anyway. I'll still be following this thread and the miserably small pile of other quests I follow, and probably doing dumb little things here and there when I can. So I won't be completely out of contact or have run off to tumblr or anything like that. I just won't be trying to hold myself to as many obligations I've set up for myself that I by nature of setting them am unable to meet.
>>
It's over, it's time to move on.

The good news is that it's probably not too late to have a happy and fulfilling life with people outside of the internet for most of us.

For a while there CYOA was an exciting and fun creative community to be a part of, but the scene is busted. CYOAG especially. We had a little golden age and it was a great thing to be a part of, my sincere thanks to everyone who worked hard to make it happen.

Sure maybe it'll be back, when it does maybe some of us will come back, maybe some of us will still be here, but right now all I've been doing is hanging on to the past and it's just making me sad.

Seriously, do you guys know what goes on in secret club? It's mostly video game discussion, OC ponysona circlejerking and if CYOAs are discussed, it's generally the kind of shit QMs would discuss off site anyway, like enemy designs and plans that might spoil the quest if it was discussed anywhere else.

So either tell QMs that you want to see their ponysona OC drawings here or start discussing CYOAs if you want to breathe some life back into this place. Hell, you could even make some fanart of a quest or post some.
Seriously, secret club didn't kill these threads. It's a lack of people posting things that inspire anyone.
I mean Just look at that sick pone and all of the fanart she got.
If you guys would actually talk about CYOA's worlds and characters content would happen. Like remember the Treads is making up her world thing? That started because people talked about Treads in here and how she acted. Hell why don't you guys just post your theories here like that anon that tried to put all the quests in a timeline or try to figure out what the Miracle at the top of Cammy's tower is instead of simply saying that a chat thread killed this board if you're so broken up about it. >Persona
Feels too deep on the autism scale. Seems like "x but with ponies" and doesn't draw my interest. The main character is also destined to be a perfect little mary sue. No desire to experience that in text format when the games do just fine.

So much goddamn text. Don't really have too much of a desire either, but admittedly on the fence. If a reader were to sing praises, might look at it.

Its insulting. Plodding. Doesn't make me want to play at all. It's very clearly a spectacle tale, and the spectacles are too uninteresting. Additionally, it feels like I have no reason to ever question anything or ever stop moving because it seems like whatever is awry, theres a reason for it somewhere, and it means I have no reason to search for clues or answers since they already exist SOMEWHERE.

1154 is looking 'up', for 1154. Not only that, I've stuck with it because it's stuck with us, Bath has put a hell of alot of effort into keeping it going strong- Something I wish more QMs were able to do.

I really wish I could get into Boat Quest, maybe I'll take another run at it. But so far it's been "the one that runs when the one I like, isn't running."

>Jumping the Shark is the moment when an established long-running series changes in a significant manner in an attempt to stay fresh. Ironically, that moment makes the viewers realize that the show's finally run out of ideas. It's reached its peak, it'll never be the same again, and from now on it's all downhill.

>Is this a serious question?

Yes it is. The foursome with the zebra's doesn't really fit with what is generally considered shark jumping and in fact feels in line with the series and setting.

I'm not saying it hasn't jumped the shark but I don't understand why you consider that the moment.

Personally I find the players fascination with zebras rather terrifying. At least, if Equestrian zebras are anything like our local equivalent.

Something best left avoided, IMO, disease being the very least of it.

Of course were I to list all that is disconcerting about CQ I'd be busy for hours.

At least it updates fast and, quite often, regularly.

You don't see how a story about a colt fleeing sexual abuse from an authority figure whoring himself out to please an authority figure might be jumping the shark?

Never mind all the other really questionable shit associated with zebras in that quest. The ambassador shouting shit about 'the natural pony position being sucking zeeb cock' and the 'good guy' in the scene being some creepshow reliving his past sexual conquests.

across the ocean is great in my opinion. the characters are funny and act like kids going on a exploration journey. depending on what your tastes are though it might be "too slow and little tension."

Hey guys. I know I've been basically dead here, and that's really shitty. Due to IRL things and whatnot, i've been a lot more drained of motivation to actually DO things. But despite what it probably looks like, I DO still want to run my quests. But then again, actions speak louder than words and all that shit. What a time to try and make a comeback. So, I'm sure there is a pegasus eating a piece of pie somewhere for this, but that's how it goes. Life has settled some, so Cat's Got Your Tongue will be returning today (Saturday) barring any personal cataclysms or otherwise. It should be around same time in the evening at 7:30 CST to let those still interested know... and I apologize for taking so long to make it back, hopefully never again.

As for the why I've been gone so long, it's been bits and dashes of personal stuff and more work/various degrees of need to keep the boat afloat. I pondered doing this meta after the first night back, but imagine here is just as good - the schedule is going to change some. Not lich hours, but my main job I work now has me at later shifts, so threads might start at 8 or 9 maybe even 10, although it'd be a short session and depends on if players are up for that late PM CST - if I get off later than that, then I probably won't run that day. Hopefully things will go smoothly and I can actually get posts out at a faster pace after two months off, but we shall see. Sorry again and hopefully we can get back to monster hunting and/or SoL forest wandering tonight.

Hello hospital idea anon here.

Except its not the hospital idea anymore, sort of.

But I'm not here for that, I'm here to ask you people a question. Collecting headcanons, if you will.I mean at least SOME of you guys aren't from Sekrit, right...?

What griffon headcanons do you have? How do their bodies function? Do they have magic and how is it used? What foods do they have? Barbed, knotted, or both? does it look like a soggy cactus?

Second thing, setting. I've been thinking of putting it in a town on the frontier of two nations. (Equestria and Griffon Empire, for now) With trade bringing in people and goods from everywhere around. What kind of landscape does it sit in?

Last question, there's gonna be different races, naturally, but other than the most popular ones that have been appearing, which less common species should make an appearance?inb4 no bats REEEE

>>28903856

Wasn't here for hospital ideas, but I can offer opinions.

Not sure how to define body functioning? I imagine have some variety of Pegasus magic with the ability to manipulate clouds, although never really thought much about it. Being made of two predators, probably very meat diet, but being in a land of pastel colored horses might put a damper on this in mixed areas maybe - but then again, aside from a few, they seem to stick apart in their own countries. And probably standard cat dong, albeit less violence and more stimulating barbs

Landscape... I imagine it'd be some place that'd be easy to get to - even if far away from the hearts of civilizations - so everyone has a chance to make a claim/some bits/gems. Ponies control the weather most places, so if they were part of a trading outpost, they'd probably do it there too.

If going to be putting the landscape in a trading outpost, then I'm going to be unhelpful and say if you can make a believable reason for them being there, then go for it. Headcanon for the existence of this or that can be neat if done right.

Not to mention the idea of hybrids. With so many species and races in one place some intermingling is bound to happen. Perhaps a new place would even attract the weirdos from their birthplaces.

Do you have any ideas for the town's layout itself? A quest needs NPCs to make it feel alive.

War in the North is something you might have to force yourself through sometimes during the first two or three threads. It does have a slow start, but it gets more and more interesting the deeper you go. It's worth it if you have the time. I like that the characters have all their own personality and their own little life aside from the party, it helps make the world feel alive.
Most Fins stuff is something that makes you go like "shit where's the tl;dr I'm not reading all that shit", and you'll feel frustrated if you try to read it quickly. But it's a great experience if you dedicate a good hour or two to read a thread calmly.

Across the Ocean is what the show would be if it was about foals exploring islands. It's focused on exploration, and frankly adorable.

Bard would be some kind of mix between WitN and AtO. It's not the greatest thing ever, but it's severely underrated. It has adventure, mysteries, and fairly good character interaction. It's generally cute, but can get serious at times.

>Its insulting. Plodding.
Insulting how? I've received other critiques, but this one is new.

>Doesn't make me want to play at all. It's very clearly a spectacle tale, and the spectacles are too uninteresting.
First time seeing "Spectacle tale" used anywhere, but I guess it's related to
>>[...]spectacle has been appropriated to describe appearances that are purported to be simultaneously enticing, deceptive, distracting and superficial[...]
?
Hrm, This one is also completely new. I guess it's alright if you feel like it's shallow? I've had >Deep Lore, which can be kinda related for some people -Deep Lore is a term that changes depending on who uses it from what I've seen- but it's not the same.
Mind that I am not trying to discredit this part of the critic, I am just surprised at it and, in all honesty, can't answer to it properly if it isn't expanded beyond an adjective

>Additionally, it feels like I have no reason to ever question anything or ever stop moving because it seems like whatever is awry, theres a reason for it somewhere
Why is it bad to encourage the players to keep moving? How does it discourage questioning? When have I consistently PUSHED them to move, rather than encouraging?

>and it means I have no reason to search for clues or answers since they already exist SOMEWHERE.
Wait what? How is it bad that I give my players clues? How does knowing that they exist discourage seeking them?
Man, one of the main critics towards Miracle and the one I am focusing the most in solving is the LACK of explanations.

Look, I'll be plain in this: I had trouble understanding what were you going at at several points and literally had to ask other people who isn't sure either. I am open to critique, and I will answer to it reasonably, but I must ask that you make the effort of being more clear.
>>

>>28904935
>Wait what? How is it bad that I give my players clues? How does knowing that they exist discourage seeking them?
I don't want to speak for him, but the way I see it is that you will never reveal anything until you decide that it's time for something to be revealed. Miracle is entirely annoying setup with no explanations until the end.
It's pointless to bother looking for clues or answers cause you'll just give them when you decide it's time to give them. You discourage looking for them.
>>
>>28904935
a spectacle piece is a work that that primarily exists to show off something odd, new or wonderful to the audience and builds itself around set pieces.

At the worst its micheal bay Transformers. At the best it's Fantasia.
>>
>>28904935
Most of what he said ties into the central premise of "Information is only given when the writer deems it instead of when players seek it out".

It's insulting because cleverness doesn't help get more information.
It's plodding because players are just wandering around until you tell them what they need to know.
They have no reason to seek information when seeking it doesn't result in anything.
Since information is given arbitrarily the only thing to do is stumble forward blindly and hope you give them what they need, resulting in never stopping moving.

The spectacle part is likely in reference to how Miracle is OUT THERE and WEIRD and CREATIVE and UNIQUE. It's trying to wow and impress the audience. But it fails because the spectacles are uninteresting.

Wouldn't giving the players no answers at the beginning and no direction also make 11-54 bad if that were the case? If not then what is the major difference between 11-54 and Miracle that changes that? Is Miracle actually leaps and bounds better than 11-54 but being a younger quest, not that many people know it yet? Is Sam Quest better than both of them, or just 11-54? What isn't there any porn of Apple Sad and 11-54pone? Why isn't there porn of Sam with Apple Sad and 11-54pone?

Abolish yourself
>>
>>28905565
There's like one apple sad lewd I know of
>>
>>28905565
The problem is in style.
11-54 is intended to be a horror-esque CYOA. Giving people no answers keeps them guessing and afraid. Sam Quest also had a heavy emphasis on horror. Miracle is basically a walking simulator with the occasional nearly impossible puzzle. Giving people no story and no lore in a quest that relies on it is damning.
>>
>>28905022
>>28905196
I think a key thing is is whether it feels like information is coming from the author or coming from the world. It sounds like for Miracle it's coming from the author.
>>
>>28905022
>I don't want to speak for him, but the way I see it is that you will never reveal anything until you decide that it's time for something to be revealed.
Ah, that. Obscurity is strong to a fault, yeah. Something I am working on, as was said.
Part of the problem is that, while the players have had some characters who are acknowledgable and willing to talk for some time, I conditioned them to not ask early on this way, which still bites me in the ass.

>>28905170
Ah, that makes sense. I get how it can come off as that.
I primarily built Miracle upon a good atmosphere and extensive story, both of them tied into a world that I made as complex as it is in the location AJ is in-- Hail and Osma are on the same -verse, only they aren't in areas that have been used for experimentation for several thousand years. Much of Miracle's weirdness is the result of how old the tower is and the place where it was built, which will be expanded upon soon.

>>28905196
>It's insulting because cleverness doesn't help get more information.
This is true to an extent that I am trying to fix -see above- but I wouldn't go as far as to say cleverness isn't rewarded.

>Plodding
See above.

>No reason to seek information
Everything the players have its because it was sought after. Sacrifice was supposed to give lotsa informatio, but we already know what happened to that.

[1/2]
>>
>>28905620
> resulting in never stopping moving.
I get what are you going at here-- the players often can feel like they have to follow the rails until The Mighty QM In The Heavens gives them something.
Part of the fault of this is because of the way I built the story-- I consider information to be another puzzle for them to put together, and frankly overdid it at first. The nature of the Miracle and A Thing the players haven't figured out yet were hinted at within the first two threads, for example.

>>28905565
11-54 was done by a QM much more experienced than I am, while Miracle was my first serious quest. It's nto hard to see why it has its problems.

>>28905573
Miracle was intended to be horror from the get go, but my mistake was in giving a main source of danger -the giant- which was simply too dangerous for me to use liberally. I intend to solve this soon.

>nearly impossible puzzle
There are two nearly impossible puzzles I've given, one very early on in the waterfall which I am not afraid of saying is one of my very worst moments as a QM and the parasite, which I didn't intend the players to beat but still allowed them to. Other than that I -Read: Someone inherently biased for obvious reasons- think the puzzles have been fair. But this is a question that'd be better answered by my players.

As someone who plays Miracle I can tell you the information feels like it is coming from the characters not the QM. The real issue is that when we get information it sounds like this:
>THIS ONE WAS A GOOD KING AND THEN A BAD KING AND THEN DYING AND THEN A CAPE ACCORDING TO THE FRIENDS. THIS ONE DID NOT THINK THE ALICORN WAS LITERAL. THERE IS ONE MORE OF THESE, BUT THIS ONE DOES NOT KNOW WHERE. THE ONE MORE IS TOO QUIET TO FIND. THE OTHER ONE DOES NOT TALK BUT IT SHOULD TALK. TO NOT TALK HURTS THE OTHER ONE LIKE IT HURTS THIS ONE TO LOOK TOO MUCH.

>>

Entrapment started more than a month after 11-54
>>
>>28905565
Players figuring out the facility is incidental to the primary goal of 'get out'. Given nothing trying to kill them they could walk out knowing nothing about it.

Players figuring things out in Miracle is a requirement to progress.
