Because you don't need an interesting plot or engaging characters as long as the girls are kawaii. And guess what, the characters are so boring and their designs so utterly generic and bland that they can't even succeed at that. And now they're going to be swarming over me for not finding them cute.

Let's not forget the absolutely atrocious sound design that makes the fight scenes better when the sound is turned off. And if the draw is supposed to be 'b-but 2d mecha action", then why should I sit through that snoozefest instead of just skipping to the action and calling it a day?

Gundam manga is rarely released in english. No late UC stuff is. It's all fan translations, and Crossbone Ghost 2 is where it ends currently. Some summaries for chapters of Dust (the new series set post Victory) are out, but that's it.

It actually annoyed me more that she was basically completely ejected from the show, apart from the quick "Hey what's up, see you in three years" at the end. Made it feel like they intended to actually kill her but chickened out.

Comparing Tomino and George Lucas is actually a quite fitting comparison.

They both have a hand for visuals, composition of shots and such when it comes to telling stories, but they're writing and characters are simple and sometimes feel stilted.
