Episode 3 was actually decent. I hope they keep this up.
>>14854966
Whys the animations so clunky, goddamn. BF never had this problem did it? What is studio 3 doing?
>>14855264
Bunch of different factors. Budget, skill of the staff, what the director thinks is good enough, schedule, character/mecha designs, you get the idea.
>>14855264
Didn't you know, anon? Robots are clunky.
Does anyone else think there's a severe lack of deflector shields in mecha anime? The only consistently used thing is I-Fields (which only works on one type of attack) and stuff like the Ide Barrier, but otherwise mecha shows doesn't seem to use forcefields too much.
I would've used an image of the Holtzman Effect from the Dune movie but there isn't one that isn't ant size.
>>14854360
The idea really only works on battleships because with something the size of a mobile suit or other similar sized Mecha the power generator needed to create a deflector shield would take too much space and be very cumbersome.
>>14854450
Not really, considering I-Fields sorta do the same thing and everyone has those or an equivalent after a certain point in Gundam. That's not even counting non-gundam shows or Super Robots. They prefer for the mech to take damage instead of having a shield.
Also I forgot about AT-Fields and that's my bad. That's like the epitome of a deflector shield because it's the essential "no" barrier to attacks.
>>14854450
Do battleships use it? It seems like battleships are really fucking weak and blow up extremely easily when mobile suits decide they want to fuck up some ships.
What is the general opinion on Gundam 00 /m? First season goes pretty decently then season two fucks it up?
I've been looking for a gundam series to show to a friend who has never seen a mech anime.
>>14853959
You already described the general opinion.
>>14853959
>First season goes pretty decently then season two fucks it up?
good job op you already figured it out.
Gundam 00 S2 gets a lot of undeserved hate. Yeah it wasn't up to the standards of s1, but it wasn't bad. There was character development, pretty cool fights, and the only reason people seem to hate it was because it went back to the old Gundam formula.
How do they keep getting away with it?
>>14853731
They have money.
>>14853738
If they have money, then how come IBO looks like total shit?
>>14853750
Because they know you'd still watch it ;)
Post your top three gandams
I'll start with my objectively correct opinion:
Turn A > 0079 > Victory
0079 > Turn A > F91
0079 > G > 08th MS team.
0080
ZZ
F91
Hello robot fuckers, i'm highly interested in knowing mecha stuff & watching some anime/mangas. Any good list that you can give me ?
>>14853408
Best Gundam anime:
Zeta Gundam
Best Macross anime:
Macross Plus
the original Evangelion series and Gunbuster OVA are also must-sees
>>14853408
tetsujin 28th, mazinger, getter robo, astro boy
>>14853408
what are points of interest for you in non-mecha stuff, OP?
Paint thread. One of your favorite /m/ scenes and draw it yourself in MS Paint.
>>14853269
2 years in MS Paint.
Do you see the truth?
I like when the Shwing Together Robot and the Shwing Dinosaur team up to stop Ganymede from destroying the Earth, and American Dio and his super cool stealth bomber robot that I don't think I ever heard a name for does crazy flips while duel wielding machine guns in space.
What are some non-Gundam games you like?
>>14852983
I like Galak-Z
>>14853418
fuck off austin
Zone of the enders
and Gundam SEED is best mecha show all time.
Okay I consider myself a good SEED fan but neither of those are the "Best"
I will say it's better than 00 but Kira is only better than Setsuna by a tiny margin
SEED and SEED Destiny were both enjoyable shows that I liked.
>>14851924
Destiny was ass
Let's be honest here, none of these guys deserved to have their own franchises. Has there ever been an /m/-related IP that wasn't ruined by its own creators? What is the fine line between being an auteur and being owned by Disney?
>look mom, i did it again!
>>14851114
Tomino never had his own franchise. Gundam has always been in the hands of production committees and Bandai. I doubt he even wanted Gundam to be a franchise.
MGS and Kojima are similar- he kept on being forced to make MGS sequels by Konami because of all the fans, and now after they fired him they still continue to rape its carcass.
Nagano seriously needs to do more with FSS and let others in on the franchise. Make some more kits, give an anime or video game, etc. It feels like all he is doing is just sitting on it and all of its potential. Kind of the opposite problem with Anno, Kawamori, and Lucas.

>Tomino never had his own franchise. Gundam has always been in the hands of production committees and Bandai. I doubt he even wanted Gundam to be a franchise.
I liked how Tomino removed all the merchandising-friendly elements from the story when he wrote the novel versions of the original Gundam. There were no monsters-of-the-week, Amuro was in the regular military, and the story had a conclusive ending.
Post your favorite food scenes from various /m/aterials

ITT: Mary Sues
>>14851009
He is history though.
>>14851009
In some ways that's unfair, in other ways it's accurate. I'm more interested in the author-insert aspect of Yang. I think he starts the story off around the same age as the author was when he was writing the books, and the author is a history buff.
Yang is the sort of Mary Sue whose flaws are all exceedingly perfect in their humanity and/or lovable. But I don't care, I couldn't help myself, he became my ultimate role model.
>>14851009
How can you be Mary Sue if you die?
So /m/ 80s Sunrise or 90s Sunrise?
Gundam F91 and Stardust Memory was 1991 so I'm gonna have to say 90's Sunrise
Both.
80s for Layzner and votoms
90s for braves and G gundam
>>14850893
10s Sunrise for Tiger and Bunny
So, I finished Kamen Rider Kuuga, Kamen Rider Amazons, and I'm almost done with Tekkouki Mikazuki. This has me on a stint for toku with more mature themes. I'm still working my way through showa rider, sentai, and ultraman, but what are some other subbed toku that would fit the bill? Hell, it doesn't even need to be mature, I just want some good toku in general, as all I've really seen is rider, sentai, ultraman, mikazuki, and the chou sei shin series.
>>14850602
Well, early Garo is kind of in that vein. Amemiya did that one so some of his style is sure to bleed through. It's got a more horror based aspect initially, but I wouldn't say it stays super gritty all the time.
>>14850613
Oh yeah, I saw S1 Garo. I don't know why I didn't start S2, I really liked it. So there's something already for me to watch, thank you!
Keitai Sosakan 7 was a great show. Very mature in its storytelling, some downright creepy episodes, and a fantastic end game.
Basically about a secret organization that uses AI cell phones and secret agents to track down cyber criminals. Bunch of long time toku actors are in it.
Zeta Gundam fucked up newtypes. It completely failed to capitalize on spiritual aspect
>>14850162
>Pumpkin spice twinkies
Are you kidding me? The twinkie is the last junk food snack I'd consider for a seasonal variant, and it's a shitty flavor at that.
Honestly if you seriously need worthless junk food for the fall season, pick up a box of those little debbie's brownies that are shaped like jack-o'-lanterns, that shit's good if only because little debbie's brownies are good regardless of whatever bullshit holiday they're based on.
But yeah totally, Zeta did drop the ball on newtypes. Cyber newtypes were a mistake.
>>14850162
This is a nice concept, but did it have to look like tuna?
>>14850348
I'm waiting for Spicy Tuna Twinkies
