I was like thinking of writing a Künstlerroman about Hegel in a postmodern tradition focusing on his life leading up to Phenomenology with the climax being the collision of two historical forces in Jena the day he mailed his final manuscript.

A few people have recommended me Guns, Germs, and Steel and I admit it does seem very interesting, but I've seen a bunch of people say it's just SJW bullshit about how whites are all bad guys and how Europeans are responsible for other countries being third-world hellholes.

Is any of that present in the book?

For anyone who has read it, what was your experience?

>>
I read a good lump of it and the arguments/observations were fascinating. Didn't get to anything SJW, just it took a lump out of the whole "Africans inherently inferior" bit.
>>
people are gonna tag anything "SJW" to pejorativize it.

there is a difference between socially-minded history and political history; this work is in the former category as opposed to the latter, which we are all more accustomed to.

nevermind the autists

le bump. In the same boat as OP. Was real interested in reading it, but had heard it's a bunch of anti-white rhetoric

Hi /lit/.

Now that the Christmas season has arrived I have been looking for presents, especially one that my grandmother would like. She is a devout Catholic and is not too keen on tech, so I am considering buying her a good book she can read as I know she can get lonely.

I was thinking of buying the Spiritual Exercises of Ignatius of Loyola but I am having second thoughts as I am sure there are several other books that are certainly more interesting. And so I have come to you, /lit/, for recommendations.

Can you recommend me any good books regarding to Catholicism, perhaps Catholic theology?

Anyways, thank you so much, for those who reply.

I am interested in this as well. Hopefully it comes to something.

So a couple days ago I made a post in a thread about Middle Earth about /lit/ making a mythopoeia. If you don’t know what a mythopoeia is, it’s basically a made up fantastical land typically used in the fantasy genre, like Middle-Earth. Basically the goal is to create the most in-depth world as we can. Use our creativity to write out a fantastical world that we could all find interesting. There isn’t a goal to get anything published, this would all just be for fun. We would decide things democratically by voting for things that we create via something like Survey Monkey. Basically, in a similar method to /vp/ makes a pokemon game.

This first thread is to see if there are people actually interested. If not, I’ll leave it at that and won’t make another thread. Anyway, here are people we need:

>Writers
In order to write up fictional history, short stories that take place within the fantastical realm, creation of the fictional mythos, descriptions of prominent figures or creatures, etc. This /lit/ so of course writing will be a big factor.
>Artists
Art for the world we build will kind of have to be needed. I’m sure this place isn’t completely devoid of drawfags.
>General Idea makers and Surveyors
Everything that is put into our fictional world will be what we discuss in the threads and are finalized by taking surveys.
>Wiki helpers/Archivers
I will end up building a wiki if we’re interested, and/or a forum, if people are interested in this. I’ll try to stay on it and organize everything we do, but I’ll need help with that. We need a place to keep track of images and ideas, and threads should be archived.

Here are things we would need to work on in order to build it. If there are things I’m missing please say so:

>Geography
We need to decide what kind of geological features we have. An island? A continent? An entire planet? We need maps made and towns created.
>Culture
We need to figure out the culture, society, and government. Are they all European-like or could they be something like oriental?
>Religion
We need a detailed mythos, a fictional religion that could be real or myth in-world, depending on our choice.
>History
A detailed history would be needed for historical events and prominent figures like Kings and Queens.
>Ecosystem
Are there fantastical beings in this world like trolls or Kangaroo-turtles? We could go conventional or make up our own species. We can do our own spin on conventional fantasy creatures or keep them the same. Do we have normal animals?

So, anyone in?

Hey /lit/,
I recently started exploring new religions, especially Judaism. While I know the basics of the religion, I was wondering if you guys can tell me more about it from a philosophical viewpoint.
11 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
It doesn't have an inherent philosophical viewpoint in the sophisticated sense that entails real philosophizing and if you want to lead a life of philosophy you're already omitting yourself from orthodoxy. Your best bet is probably to look into whatever occult and mystic thought underlie the tradition. Kabbalah is the most obvious.

Oh well, jews pretty much invented both moral objectivism and messianism. Also, following laws not for a reward, but for the sake of the laws themselves.
Another interesting point is the notion that instead of converting everyone, they see it as their prime function in god's plan to lead by example.
Also, the talmu and the writings of Solomond are full of dialectics.

Obviously, none of this is the case.

>>
>Was reality always as ridiculous and absurd as its today?

From a practical point of view, probably not. Most people were peasants, with limited access to external news. Their world was all about planning and working from day to day to raise crops and livestock to feed their families, with most of what they needed covered by their own production rather than indirectly through wages. That's an extremely purposeful existence.
