Sonic's first game is fast,
His physics, unsurpassed.
His early games, really great;
But all too soon, out of date.
When "D" subsides to "3."
So fanboys can't concede,
So Sega lost their way,
Nothing fast can stay.

Sega is obsolete you stupid fuck
Sonic fanboy? Shit, you're out of luck.
Modern video games are far more deep
It's not like sonic could snipe from a jeep.
Although I agree the games had their merit
A contemporary gamer couldn't bear it.
That's all I have to say, I'll let it be...
Perhaps you should just fuck off back to >>>/v/?
The US election has me wondering. Are we all living inside of a Thomas Pynchon novel?
I don't fucking know
probably
I'd dig it. You should write it.
What am I in for, /lit/?

Why does the cultural underclass hate Gatsby so much? Does it have something to do with their inability to appreciate formalist aspects of novels?
>>8679302
yes
>>8679302
Because they teach it in American high schools.
>>8680054
This here.
Why is that though? Is it because being taught at high school means it's seen as 'beginner lit'? Is it because it means that lots of people have read it, and thus it carries no cultural cachet to have read it?
There's lots of people here who've indicated that high school English is what encouraged them to be a reader, so it seems weird that people would regard it as a seminal experience while also hating the books that were taught.
What's on your mind
/lit/ is way better at giving helpful advice than /adv/.
This is a pretty cool picture.
I feel like "write what's on your mind" threads are for people who enjoy seeing others write from the heart, without it seeming like a blogpost nor a rant nor a vent. Just plain writing that doesn't require commitment to read, much easier to read for people who want to enjoy literature, but don't have the patience for it. I think that's why I enjoy them so much.
I'm stuck in a purgatory state where I'm living a life I'm not content with, but not bad enough for me to do anything about. I'm gonna die neither happy nor sad, just bored and disappointed.
>>8679308
Advice is biased, Anon. Other people project their values onto you and tell you what "should" do, believing that you want the same thing as they do. /adv/ as a board is a terrible idea, especially when nearly all advice begins with a "just" as if change was easy.

Read your own wiki page you stupid motherfucker.
So I recently bought myself a copy of The Koran with the intent on studying it. My question is how would I go about doing so and are there any useful resources online I could use?

Find a local suni mosque and contact the imam there he will be able to give you the best way of approaching it.
Can you read Arabic?
Part of the fun i imagine is the ability to interpret one word in 10 different ways. If you can't do that, then I think you're missing out.
Although that's not true. Still tons there to analyse and I can't read Arabic.
Is Nietzsche the most misunderstood philosopher in history?
http://www.slate.com/articles/video/video/2016/10/nietzsche_philosophy_myths_and_distortions_in_pop_culture_video.html
Maybe. But pop culture poisons and distorts anything it touches, Nietzsche is no exception.
>>8679241
Are you posting this article to display the correct understanding of Nietzsche?
Because its filled with just as much errors as the pop culture conception of him
>>8679288
Post your conception of him and point out the errors in the video
Hey guys so I'm fairly new to writing poetry and I want someone to check what I wrote and hear what they think.
revel after fair fellow,
seek delectation,
for it need follow,
ensuing cessation,
conduct quite standard,
receive here quietus lanyard,
greet tranquility,
accept nihility.
>>8679232
that was truly awful
>>8679232
Every line is very stilted and cramped. To have a poem consisting solely of such phrases is claustrophobic. There's no movement and it doesn't feel like anything is happening. "Greet tranquility, accept nihility" has an OK cadence to it but the word-choice is a bit on-the-head.

great advice m8
Any good ones around? Most of the ones I've seen were the "Hi, I'm a Slut" type of people.
Nope.
None.

How does /lit/ feel about pic related?
I was considering starting a thread about this.
Fantastic book, invaluable editing tool.
Wonderful book.
TLDR: Omit needless words.
>>8679031
It's a little overrate, but fine. Joseph Williams' "Style: Toward Clarity and Grace " is better. Theodore Bernstein is pretty good too.
Alright, /lit/
I'm sure I'm not the only one to have this idea, but I want to start a tiny business of proofreading essays and offering tutoring in writing. Basically just have students - or anyone who's interested - email me their papers, and I give substantive enough feedback (beyond just grammar revision, but advice on how to develop style and voice and shit like that) that they'd be willing to pay me rather than go to the obvious competition: free college tutors. Prices would be pretty low, like $2 or $4 per page.
Thoughts?

Sounds like a great business model desu. Just buy a swimming pool before you start up, so you have a place to put all the cash and pussy coming your way.
>>8679002
That's been accounted for.
>>8678988
Dubs confirm great business model.
Are you sure 2-4$ is a good price though? Depending on how long you take to read an essay and grade it that might not be the best choice. Furthermore, people would probably be willing to pay a bit more than that if you gave good advice.
My friend had an extra copy of this and gave it to me. Is it worth the time?
Nothing and nobody French is worth your time. Have some dignity.
Are YOU worth Flaubert ? Lol, these kids...
The time? Its like 300 pages, a few hours at most. Just read it.
