I'm really interested in Latin poetry, particularly the writings of Roman poets around the time of Augustus' rule and Maecenas' patronage. Virgil's Appendix Vergiliana is one of the few books of his I haven't been able to find a translation for online, and I'm too cheap to buy a translation. I was wondering if anyone knew of a website where I could find a reasonably accurate translation of these poems, think you guys can help me out?

Thanks, I'll start a torrent for this, but I'm pretty shitty at pirating. At least I'll be able to read it but I'd still like to find an online translation so that I can source it "legally" for future essays.

you don't torrent it, you click on one of the mirrors. anyways it's in the public domain

You may ask me two specific questions and I will elucidate. I'm not going to spoonfeed you a dissertation on KotS as a whole without a modicum of effort on your part.

Jesus Christ get a load of this fucking pseud.
Gonna spoonfeed us his dissertation on Murakami because it's such deep Oedipal postmodernism
What did you get out of this book? I think I missed much of the point because I'm unfamiliar with Christianity.

reading faust will help a lot.
>>8835824
all you have to do is read faust and the gospel of matthew... not much in the way of pre-requisites.

What do you mean by reading Faust?
Like, is this an author, a story, what the fuck is a Faust?
I read Meditations, loved it. Want more Stoic.
From my understanding, most of the early Stoic works are gone, but can I get some recommendations on ancient stoic philosophy and/or modern commentary.
Thanks!

Anything cicero, seneca and epictetus for a start.
Musonius Rufus is one of the few left. He was a student of Epictetus. You can find a few paperback editions of his fragments.
>>8835820
Letters From a Stoic by Seneca, that Epictetus book is pretty good, and Ryan Holiday's books do a justice to stoicism in modern times

I like books that are 200 pages that I can read in an hour or two. How do I make it possible to read war and peace in one day? Is it advanced or can you read it as your first book?
>200 pages.
>Reading in an hour or two.
Sure you do.
Someone we knew raved about a guy called Tolstoy and we remember, or any of a myriad of reasons.
I picked up Chekhov recently since I've been enjoying Russians, for example.

Has anyone here ever read anything by Andy Warhol?
I know he's considered by many to be a charlatan whose art wasn't really art, but his books are actually quite readable. He's pretty observant and has some interesting things to say about people and society and such. He also has a really good deadpan sarcasm. I'll give you an example:
> There are so many songs about love. But I was thrilled the other day when somebody mailed me the lyrics to a song that was about how he didn't care about anything, and how he didn't care about me. It was very good. He managed to really convey the idea that he really didn't care.
I mean, this is just hysterical.
Another good line:
> I'm a city boy. In the big cities they've set it up so you can go to a park and be in a miniature countryside, but in the countryside they don't have any patches of big city, so I get very homesick.
>he's considered by many to be a charlatan whose art wasn't really art

Busted out my Nook Simple Touch after probably a year of not using it and realized I'd much rather have a newer ereader with the illuminated screen. What's the best one now? Kindle Paper White? I liked the Nook's ability to read ePubs, but I guess I could convert all my pirated books for a Kindle if I need to.
>>8835547
I have this same one. Imo its really good looking and really comfy to hold but the screen is doodoo
KOBO AURA ONE !!!
>>8835547
Get an e-ink. Get a Kindle Paperwhite, or if you have some extra cash get the Kindle voyage. If you want you can go look at Kobos.
Why does he feel ashamed?
Also, what is the Western equivalent of this book?

not sure when it came out, but reading it now feels like a grumpy old man picking the low hanging fruit. hes right about a lot, but they werent really ideas that were new to me. btw im super red pilled. like literally completely based. him and his brother howard are almost as good as the hitchens sisters.
Been trying to read this book for ages.
Still on page 150 or so because I got frustrated with the whole moral panic over sexual mores and the horrors of rock and roll. I mean, really?
But, there is some actual conservative thought and reasoning at parts, like defending the idea of the nuclear family (only time i've actually seen anyone try to coherently explain "family values").
Honestly not well versed in philosophy, so when he starts going off about Western Civilization and truth and shit, I'm utterly lost.
Pretty shitty, but I feel like I should force myself to finish one of these years...
