Eastern/Asian philosophy general.

I think the Chinese and the Japanese get it. I really do. Could be because I'm psychoanalysis/continental man and I think everything is about capitalism and desire and violence and ideology. And because I think martial arts, Taoism, and samurai-jock wisdom is the way forward. Not because it has the answer, but because I think it prevents one from getting caught up indefinitely with the problem.

Talk about books you've read, stuff you'd recommend, why China will take over the world, why not, etc.

First question: what is violence?

Fair enough. Let me ask some more specific question then:

Does Eastern philosophy BTFO Zizek? Why doesn't he like it? I know it's because the Bhagavad Gita sanctions violence, but is martial-arts violence Musashi-style really the same thing as political violence?

See pic related: it's my boy RG. What I like about RG is that he will say the problem, as always, is violence; and this is because mimetic desire compels everyone to follow the self-destructive logic of the duel. In Clauswitzian terms this makes sense to me: but is kungfu or martial arts violence the same kind of violence that someone like Zizek say can be understood in Lacanian terms? Maybe it isn't.

I agree with most everything RG says. Except that the martial arts violence I want to talk about here may have nothing to do with myths, texts, or even politics itself as the sniffler understands it.

On top of that I am wondering how fucking boss Confucianism is in general, since hyper capitalist Western civ today is just 114% libidinal economy to me and headed for one disaster after another that I don't even care about anymore. Chinese philosophy looks good. Maybe not China itself but the thought most def. Also Musashi.

The last Eastern philosophy thread was very interesting until some absolute cunt shit it up with something that probably should have been reported. I'm picking up where that left off.

Let's talk about violence, anons. And kungfu. And samurai shit. And what it all means.

As long as we agree Orin's chapters were the worst. But really, I found Don or Hal's to be the best, I just found the narrative in them pretty fun.

Post some of your shit and get feedback

>translation from spanish:

I like to remember.
Even if it hurts.
I know that what I'm about to say might sound too romantic and cliche, but it's true: unfortunately, memories are what hurts the heart the most. And my heart is hurt, a death wound, a terminal illness. Although I am perfectly aware of that, and it hurts, and I wish it had never reached this point, I refuse to forget. I don't want to. I have heard other people who suffered from the same telling me that the best thing to be done in these cases is to forget, and in case that is impossible, to block. To block each memory. Each smile, each look, each hug... each tear. No, I don't want to forget. Even though the memories kill me, burns my insides, it has become unthinkable for me to replace all that for a simple black box. No, I would never do that. The memories, in my opinion, are the most precious things that remain after everything ends. In my case, it was certainly better to end it. Continuing with more of the same would have killed me faster than the damn memories do. If it hadn't finished, I would still be a slave, though perhaps I wouldn't be aware of it. I don't know.

>original:

Me gusta recordar.
Aunque duela.
No quiero. No, no quiero olvidarlo.

would they really say that....

I'm not spanish, but it's not poorly written, the theme you pick—and I don't know if you're writing from experience or not—is the typical heavy-emotion a new writer would force into their prose, to get a forced emotional response from the reader, but truth is the reader likely won't respond much to it and just keep reading, somewhat detachedly, I think, at least that's me.

>part of a short story i just wrote
It is said that when two opposing equal forces meet each other they neutralize. What happened when Mark went to live with Susan was a slow process of sculpting, of erosion. Much like a blade is diminished as its sharpened, both of them molded the other into a more sophisticated form by virtue of butting heads. And in the end their flaws were blunted whilst their virtues were polished. They became gentler people, their reserves of bile and spite, though considerable were not infinite, and greater still was the motivation that pushed them to get it out and get rid of it all. Once they threw at each other everything they had to throw they could finally start to pick up the good things. He learned from her to be more considerate and empathetic for those who had it worse than him, and she learned from him to not get caught up in her own indignation and resentment towards those who didn't have it quite as bad. They grew up, as people does

>steady stream of funerals and graves to adorn wih flowers
>number of deaths attracts suspicion

>granda tells him life is a bit shit in any era, you just have to get on with it

Rules for Radicals is the mighty whitey fantasy where a middle- to upper- class white guy, called "organizer", becomes the lord and master of the "have-nots", and directs them into political action by radicalizing them under the pretense of liberating them.

It's a very short book, and very dense, full of examples of successful and unsucessful rebellion.

The organizer needs curiosity, irreverence, imagination, a sense of humor, a bit of a blurred vision of a better world, an organized personality, he needs to be a
well-integrated political schizoid (because he must not be a true believer in his cause, he is only pretending to liberate people), and an ego, among other skills.

Alinksy writes like a short-sighted, power-tripping megalomaniac, particularly in the last chapter on the proxy tactic, which is a delusional escalation that resulted in the inevitable spectacular failure:

Can first person work in a story? I'm writing a short 50 page novella on the residential schools in Canada. I'm a 3rd generation First Nation, who doesn't know much about it all except from learning it in university.

I know real friends who's grandparents had went through it -- I've heard stories. So the first person isn't really me, but rather it's the people I know who have experienced the repercussions of it all.

I can give an excerpt, but it's still in its first draft.

Anyway, does first person work if it's done well?

It can work. Your subject matter is a hell of a story so please write it, however you must.
>>
>>8842454
Yes. I find great works are usually third-person, though.
>>
>>8842461
I say this because I want to personalize the story to the reader -- so much so that every time something tragic or traumatizing happens to the first person, it's as if it happens to the reader.

I want people to know how terrible it all was. I mean, I'm not doing first person willy nilly because I suck at writing (I probably do though), but rather I just want the readers to really experience what happened in those schools, and what happened to their children and their children's children because of it. At least in part.

I mean at the end of it, I want people to at least shed a tear from reading it, or may be just feel a tug in their stomach at how fucked up the whole thing was.

I know this takes a lot of skill to do that sort of thing, but it's something I'm willing to spend years on, so I want every detail right
