Yes. He's basically an absolutely horrible person in every possible way and setting back the cause of LGBT by decades.

That being said, one could see him as a good reminder that white male homosexuals have a lot of privilege for being white men, and this is what happens when they only care about themselves and don't have a genuine interest in the well being of other LGBT people.

It's a psychological reason. Most gay guys feel the need to fit in to the "gay crowd", since they feel too isolated from the heterosexual one. Humans are a social species, and a lot of gay people thrive on being socially accepted.

It most likely started as a way for gays to covertly identify each other in the 20th century (along with things such as Polari), and then became so associated with gays that it became part of "gay identity". Those who wish to fit in with the "gay crowd" then subconsciously take on this form of "gay identity".

Also, some people are faggy, flaming, camp arseholes who enjoy the attention.
