Tell me, George III, if the Empire is so great how was it defeated by simple farmers?
>>2970628
it just happens, bro...
>>2970628
Looking back on it the timing could not have been better for America. The geopolitics of Europe basically made it so that England could not launch a counteroffensive for 40 years and even then they were busy with Napoleon.

> At the time of the conquest of the castles of the Heretics, we sent envoys to you seeking for reinforcements. You replied that you were our subordinate, yet you did not send troops. The sign of subordination and concord is that you send troops when we campaign against the enemy, but you did not do so and sent only excuses. Even though your family is august and venerable and your house has experienced rule and fortune, yet Could the moon have shone so brightly That it eclipsed the blazing sun.
> Surely you have heard from both high and low what has befallen the world and its inhabitants from the time of Chinggis Khan up to now, and what humiliation was visited upon great houses such as the Khvarazmshahs, the Saljuqs, the kings of Daylam, the Atabaks, and others through the power of the Everlasting Eternal God. The gates of Baghdad were never closed to any one of those groups, and they all had seats of power there. With all our strength and might, how can they be closed to us?
> Previously we have advised you, and we do so again now: refrain from rancor and obstinacy, do not attempt what you cannot do nor ignore what is manifest, for you will be sorry. In any case, let bygones be bygones. Now, destroy your ramparts and fill in your moats; entrust the rule to your son, and come to us in person. Should you not wish to come yourself, send the Minister, Sulayman Shah, and the Marshal—all three—so that they might deliver our message to you verbatim.
> Indeed, when our order is obeyed, it will not be necessary to exact retribution and your shall retain your land, army, and subjects. If you do not heed our advice and intend to oppose and resist us, ready your army and choose the battlefield, for we are prepared and girded for battle. When I lead my army against Baghdad in fury, whether you hide in the heavens or on earth
> I will bring you down from the spinning spheres;
I will toss you in the air like a lion.
I will leave no one alive in your realm;
I will burn your city and your lands.
> If you wish to spare yourself and your venerable family, listen to my advice with the ear of intelligence. If you do not, you will see what God has willed.

How was garbage disposal handled in different historical periods, in different parts of the world?
What were the practices in the ancient world vs the medieval period, the enlightenment, etc.; how did it differ in Europe from the Middle East, China, the Americas? What was the status of recycling – besides a "waste not, want not" attitude among the lower classes?
Serious questions.
Most of our trash today is like plastics and shit which didnt exist until the 20th century
>>2970399
So wood and other organic materials were left to degrade? What about metals, glass, and pottery?
To this day we still are having trouble with our sewer and waste water disposal.
Back in the day processed or craftered materials were not as endemic as they are now.
I bet that modern american soldiers will be portrayed as having WW2 uniforms because they're more 'iconic'

As far as actual things we can see? Absolutely nothing, because far too much photographic evidence exists today. Ideologically? A whole lot.

What do you guys think about the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator test? Rubbish or legitimate? I've gotten INTP on two different tests, however I believe i'm more like ISTP irl.
/thread
Like all psychological tests they suffer from a heisenberg type weakness, where they make the observer the participant, which means they are only serve to categorize your current state of being and not nessicarily your overall sense of being.

Which culture had the most aesthetic arms and armor and why is it Turco-Mongols?
>>2970022
The English, by going to Ireland in the first place.
The UVF and RUC, by attacking NICRA and Catholic civilians repeatedly until the IRA's policy of non-violence failed and PIRA mobilized.
Note that the IRA was actually caught flat footed by the Battle of the Bogside and was unable to defend Catholic neighborhoods.
Catholics were hoping the British Army would protect them, but instead the British Army started interning exclusively republicans.

i'm curious about the use of grenadiers in 18th and 19th century warfare, how did they function? and what was the range of a grenade?
>>2970018
Initially grenadiers did actually throw grenades, and they chose big guys (4 u) for the job.
When that proved to be dangerous in a field battle (i.e. your grenadier boy gets shot while throwing a grenade, blowing yourselves up), grenadiers became the crack assault force tasked with breaking niggas' formations up using aggressive tactics. They were also people you would not like to engage in melee with since they train to be better than it than everyone else in the infantry.
>>2970484
How heavy were those grenades estimated to be? I imagine that if they had to hand pick the guys who would throw them they must've been heafty.
>>2970526
Its not because they're heavy, it's just that they want big guys to throw them far.

When do you think Flavius Aetius would have fit in best? He did quite well with managing the era of the Western Roman Empire he was at, but he was unable to stop the decline due to his assassination by the Emperor Valentinianus III, and perhaps numerous other challenges that would have obstructed the Empire's recovery. When Sidonius Apollinaris heard about Aetius' assassination by the Emperor, he remarked, "Whether well or not, I do not know. But know that you have cut off your right hand with your left." It's possible that had Aetius been born in an earlier time, he could have been a powerful conquerer, in the style of Caesar or Traianus, rather than the great defensive leader he was during the fifth century AD.
>>2970516
It really bums me out how Valentinianus III lashed out in a jealous spate of madness and ended the Western Empire's best chance for longevity

How is it that racist cultures tend to do the best in life?

They have a set of traditions that work and try to improve within it while ignoring the suffering of their minorities, its a coward's way of living

They are not as successful as anti-racist, anti-fascist, western liberal countries though.
The Great Depression would have eventually corrected itself even without any government intervention.
Prove me wrong.
that's what happened though
You're right, but that takes too long, and meanwhile 25% of people are unemployed and pissed at the government. So you have to take some sort of action. The depression didn't really end until WW2.
Big government and regulations has always been a hindrance.
Who else here finds the later Roman Empire aesthetic as all hell?

You know the type. They think they're historians since they like CK2, Total War, went to some slum high school and read the abstract on a wikipedia article and think they can contradict fucking Adams or Gibbons.
One of the worst I've encountered was someone convinced Shieldmaidens existed.

I think the ultimate realization is how fee links we actually have in history. Think about how few sources exist in Europe during the 700s. So to me the ultimate misconception people have is that we know history.

Edward Gibbon is just wrong to start with. The History of the Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire may of being a revolutionary book in 1788 in terms of ideas and quality. But over time almost every part of has been proving wrong.
What the fuck was his problem?
