There's a WWII reenactment happening in my town soon and I want to sign up, but my mother is pissed that I'm going to dress up as a Wehrmacht and she called me a Nazi. Should I not be doing this? Any reenactors that can enlighten me?

Most people will assume that you are an actual nazi. Some of them ARE actually nazis. Pick something actually interesting instead. Also don't assume you can just wander up in costume and expect to take part.
>>
>>778958
Don't spout the good Wehrmacht crap. The Heer had its share of war crimes, don't try to downplay it.

But tell her that you can't have Othello without somebody playing Iago, or The Merchant of Venice without Shylock, but the world would be deprived of two good plays if nobody was willing to play it.

As your mother, she knows you aren't a nazi, so explain to her the educational aspect of a historical reenactment, and make her understand that you are no more a Nazi than the person who plays Claudius in Hamlet is a fratricide.
>>
lol, your mother is fucking dumb

Ehh, I have grave doubts as to whether or not the Whites could have ever formed anything that wasn't as equally repressive and incompetent.

Plus, an enormously weakened Russia is probably one of the few things that puts a German victory in WW2 into the realm of plausibility, although personally I still think it's unlikely, if nothing else, the Atomic Bomb is almost certain to end things.

It doesn't end there, because this bolshevist bullshit also devastated Asia.

why does hollywood always portray a dystopian and orwellian world if hitler won WW2?

Because Orwell based his ideas on an extrapolation of wartime politics on all sides that the NSDAP would probably perpetuate into peace time?
>>
>>782161
Because it was fucking miserable in Nazi Germany, and Hitler's dreams of the global reich weren't any brighter. Controlling what art you can create, constant propaganda, even something as petty as hair curlers could be out of your reach if deemed counterproductive to the war effot.
>>
>>782161
Because Nazi Germany was dystopian and Orwellian, and people are generally myopic and extrapolate current trends into the far future.

Why did God create humans when he has angels?

They have free will, and use it to praise him 24/7.

All the rotten ones are in hell.

I'm irreligious but blah blah blah something something Augustine:

to create maximum good (because god just has to do that for some reason, because he's god and god is good), god made each degree of good, from the smallest good to the largest one

i.e. a garage with the "most good" car is not as good as the garage with the most good car plus the secondmost and the thirdmost and the fourthmost, etc. Hence "evil" and natural disasters; they're just "really low on the good scale" as opposed to evil or bad. To me though, the fact that it's a matter of how it's scaled seems to imply that right and wrong are merely a matter of convention or perspective, which is a very amoral and unchristian thing to believe in.
>>
>>782122
Because humans don't challenge him, unlike Satan, belzebub and belial

>Angels
>Free will

Oh look, a Christian being wrong again.

Angels don't have free will. As for their purpose, look at their Hebrew name, מַלְאַךְ which quite literally means "messenger". They're errand boys for God, often sent when the message being delivered is to either someone unworthy (Think Balaam) or too worked up (The angel sent to tell Abraham to not actually kill Isaac) to deal with a full blown Divine visitation.

Is it time to separate science from the state, as was previously done with religion?

There are plenty of similarities between the political power that the church used to have and the one the vague concept of "Science" holds today. I believe it is detrimental to both science and the society living under the state.

For the society it is simple: Democracies are brought up to fulfill the will of the people, however, the actual act of voting is where the people express their will, and the voting process is made as the acknowledgement that people have different opinions of what is right and what should be done. Both religion and the current political conception of science reject the democratic ideal of making a room for different opinions in the matters of the State, even when contrasting opinions are the norm in the religious and scientific communities (probably more so in the latter). The growing influence of "science" on the affairs of the State and public opinion is deeply anti-democratic. (cont.)

(Cont)
For science, its relationship with the state is detrimental to its ultimate purpose of truthfully describing (and even understanding) the universe, right now people, parties and politicians (not people) are being called "anti-science" not because of a strong belief in mysticism and denunciation of the scientific method, but because they express views against what some groups of people hold as settled science, things like global warming, vaccines and autism, fluoride in the water etc., some of you may discard this opinion on the basis that you believe the previous matters are indeed "settled science", but I'd argue that the same could happen with scientific matters that you don't support, like eugenics or anti-abortionism.

Furthermore, we must let go of the nonsense notion of "settled science" and "scientific consensus". Political interference in science is not helping this matter, you may think, for example, that increased governmental funding is always a good thing for science, but remember that said funding is always tied to the politician's beliefs, government funding of science is not "have this and find truth", but "have this and give me talking points for the next press conference".
>>
>>781218
The irony of that pic is that it implies Church and State intersect and are therefore not separate.
>>
>>781233
Makes sense if you consider that two straight lines that intersect in a single point will never do so again

Is humanity irredeemable and without hope? Has the seeking of comfort through technology doomed us all? Do we need a bottleneck event to revitalize mankind's instinct for survival?

No tactics were missing. Infantry tactics through most of the war in the west were basically the same as in WW2. Light machine guns, mortars, rifle grenades pin the enemy, assault element moves up to close range.

Extensive mechanization and motorization to provide supply to your attacking forces, and even more importantly, to exploit and develop a breakthrough, was what was missing.

Remember that assaults, as in reaching the other side's trench, succeeded regularly. It was holding against the counterattack - with overextended, tired, forces low on supply, against an enemy not suffering from these factors - that was the problem.

Also don't forget that this applies for the relatively cramped frontline in the west. In the east, vast sweeping maneuvers and highly mobile warfare over the plains and fairly open ground was still very common.
>>
>>779444
Defense hadn't caught up with attack yet. There was pretty much no way to counter a well placed machine gun until the tank came along

He did a good job of that on his own, he didn't need other people to make him look bad.

>Ghaddafi was in fact a good leader
A good leader is relative.
Did he keep the peace in Libya and do better than the alternative (radical religious leader)?
Yes.
Did he do a particularly good job?
No.

It's like saying Saddam was a good leader. Relatively speaking compared to the alternative he was a good leader. But when compared to actual good leaders he kind of appears as a cartoonishly evil fellow.
