What developments in politics would surprise, or hell disturb, disturb Plato/Aristotle?
The universal adoption of democracy among the west
if plato and aristotle were alive today, they would be surprised at the fact that the modern world has become secular and religious fundamentalism does not dictate the laws anymore. The execution of Socrates seems now but a farcry for democracy in the modern world has allowed for freedom of speech on religious matters. growing further apart?
idk lol
What is the official Christian position on psychedelic drugs? Are there any taboos against it in the Bible?
>>1300155
Philip k dick was mesmerized by her breasts first off. Second useing drugs for religion goes back to the Fucking witch doctor days so it's a joke and not Christian
>>1300155
As you treat the least of these, you treat the Lord. Sometimes you see self as lesser or least and don't consider to preserve your own health in a venture toward self-destruction. In this manner you are causing harm to self, harm to God's creation and harm to God. You really shouldn't do it, but we mess up in all manners of ways, so you probably will do it anyway. Once given the opportunity of forethought , however , a smart person who cares for self wouldn't do it, anyway. So it just becomes an exercise in rebellion.

I don't think there's any specific verse in the bible that says don't do drugs, it mentions that drunkards won't go to heaven so it's fair to assume drug addicts would fall under that category.
I have some unusual world views. I would like to be able to call myself a member of some school of thought but I don't know where I fit. I would like to read some philosophy but I just don't know what I would enjoy, or what/who would tell me something I haven't already thought about.
>tl;dr
If I have 0% belief in religion, am skeptical of everything, and despise the way my own generation acts, (y, 1993) what might I enjoy reading?

kafka
"How to kill yourself" sounds like a good fit for you.

>am skeptical of everything
Try solipsism then, fag.

Could some kind patrician translate the following statements into Latin. Just tell me to fuck off back to >>>/wsr/ if this is unwanted content.
>Pain is pleasure.
>Conflict is pleasure.
>Epicureans are dirty, lazy, and inferior people.
>>1300014
Panum es inflictum.
Conflictus es pleasuribum.
Epicureanae es iulvani, retardae et inferiore vulgus.

Why are Mormons still defending this guy? Why are Mormons so ridiculous?
Christians still defend Paul.

More evidence /pol/ is always right.
I don't know if this question is best suited for here, /jp/, or /a/, but who is "Kami-sama?" When I hear it mentioned in a Chinese cartoon (Please, Kami-sama, help me; maybe Kami-sama told me to do that; I think Kami-sama is watching over us), is it an anachronism referring to the Christian God or a more complicated idiom that's always been part of Japanese rhetoric?
>>1299222
You know. There is soul in everything yada yada eastern shamanism
>>1299222
it refers to a Namekian living in the sky that watches over the earth and gives power to the dragon balls
It's the Christian God
I'm going to post some Swedish Nazi stuff from 1920-1950, with a little bit of backstory.
Starting with the Swedish version of the arm swastikas the German Nazi's wore.

Here's a pin with the same badge.

Hello,
Have all dictatorships been kleptocracies?
Every form of government is a kleptocracy
>>1298968
Interesting theory
All governments except monarchies are kleptocracies.
I just finished this and my god, it was absolutely brilliant. Probably in the top 10 dramas I've ever watched in my life.
Any other recommendations?

Well even though it's less than 25 years ago, the Iraq War, or at least the invasion of Iraq in 2003 is technically history, so I'm reccing Generation Kill.
>>1298857
I saw an interview with Derrick Jacobi several years ago, When the interviewer asked him about his role in I Claudius, he began to stutter. Also, Patrick Stewart appears as Sejanius, but nobody today realizes its him because he has hair! I agree, its one of the top TV dramas.

How does this compare to the book? I've only read the book and it's sequel......

Axes confirmed for pieces of shit!

haha get fucked /his/ your precious axes are dog shit
>>1298559
Just because swords are superior weapons doesn't mean the axe didn't have its uses in combat.
Also, doesn't /his/ hate swords and agree that axes are generally shit at fucking shit up?
>>1298568
No one hates swords because unlike axes they had some actual uses.
>>1298568
No one has ever said that on here.
Axes are shit, live with it
How long will this meme continue?
Why don't you make your own meme religion then. All you need is the power of mementum to make it happen

Probably as long as both of these
It'll be the dominant religion in America in a few centuries
How would the american civil war have turned out if General Lee had won at Gettysburg?
Would the siege of Washington have been next after a lengthy pursuit of yankees by the confederate army through the countryside?
I imagine that even with a victory; Lee would still suffer significant casualties and still make way back to confederate lines but victorious with spirits high and the Union again suffering another defeat and reminded that the Confedeacy can invade successfully.
>>1297728
Depending on how decisive the victory is, a Confederate army freely marching around as far north as Pennsylvania would undoubtedly have incited riots in the large cities of the North. A siege of Washington could have had a very real possibility of causing enough unrest within the Union to convince the federal government of pursuing conditional peace terms with the Confederacy.
It was a political war, the south only had to defeat morale
>Boston Massacre
>Only 5 people died
WTF???
Not only that but the people who were 'massacred' were pelting the redcoats with rocks and daring them to shoot them.
>>1297487
The American tradition of false-flagging to start wars goes back a long ways.
>>1297487
US census says the pop was 2,148,076 in 1770
Current US population is 341,442,019
5 people dead in 1770 is .00023% of the population
50 dead today is .000014%
it was a big deal
Does anyone know a non-cuck version (aka not crash course) of an overview of world history.
