Alot of lefty people I know keep sharing this quote. What does it mean "couldn't dance to" from my knowledge revolutions involve little dancing. They typically involve killing, struggle, risking life and limb. Washington, Robespierre and Wolfe Tone are not remembered because of their dancing

Anyone want to talk about Process Philosophy?

For those who may not know, the foundation is this (though if you have read some Heraclitus, the following will sound familiar):

Rather then reality being made of substances, it is instead comprised of "events" of varying duration.

This is to say, rather then there being something of an essence, there is a constantly changing state of affairs.

For example, someone may say that a sick Plato, or a Plato before he was taught by Socrates is in essence Plato. To the contrary, an adherent of Process Philosophy would argue that there was a "collision" of processes (i.e. Plato eats spoiled meat, or Plato meets Socrates, respectively).

Basic rundown in next post, if it all fits.

The three elements of said events (known as "actual events") are:

i. Objective Data (or The Causes)

ii. Eternal Possibilities

iii. The Decision

A new event occurs at the intersection of two processes (synonymous with events),
with the (i) (Objective Data) of the second process intersecting with the first process' existent state-of-affairs.
The intersecting (i) will then cause a change on the existent state-of-affairs.

In regards to (i) within the paradigm of human consciousness,
we are made aware of (i) through what is categorized as:

Physical (Ap)prehension (i.1),

(i.1) is when you are affected by the intersecting (i), and react either positively (absorb it) or negatively (reject it).
This is to be considered as an affective experience.

Accordingly, Whitehead thinks that the cause-and-stimulus deserves primacy rather then the Idea,
because the first instance of an event isn't our thought, but rather it's cause-and-stimulus
(which seems to be the case, lest we experience nothing).

Next is (ii) (Eternal Possibilities), which describes abstract logical possibilities. For example, the effect of (i).
In conscious experience, this is felt as conceptual (ap)prehension (that is, cognitively), which is similar to Hume's "impressions of things".

(ii) are not invented, though we may actualize certain possibilities.
We may recognize, but not create. Possibilities are there, and remain objective (eternal objects of thought).

Finally, we regard (iii) (The Decision) when certain possibilities are realized. The selective possibility becomes the

Subjective Aim (iii.1),

the casual goal.

(2/3 (I was wrong.))

The Initial Subjective Aim (iii.11),

is that presented by the natural Causal Process.
That is, given this (i), there will be a certain outcome. In a Determined process (an event with a particular causal goal: "Come here, Spot"),
the (iii.11) becomes the intrinsic aim ("I want Spot to come here").
Conversely, (iii.11) may become a

Modified Subjective Aim (iii.12),

wherein the initial aim is resisted (Spot may rather lick his genitals).

Once either (iii.11) or (iii.12) is realized, the particular event ends, and to what Whitehead considers an "Aesthetic Satisfaction". That being the particular experience having been drawn to a close in harmony, elements melding together into a singular experience.

I don't see this area discussed much, despite being fairly comprehensive, complete with it's own rather interesting theology (which I'm not versed in yet).

Why was Augustus so cruel to his daughter? Was it really just about promiscuity when it was so common and pretty much accepted as the norm at the time? Even recently with all the moral Christian nonsense going around, Obama's daughter got caught flaunting her bare ass and it's not like he would go and issue an executive order to exile her to some island and let her starve to death.

What is meant by the statement that "God is perfect"?

The word "perfect" means , more or less, without flaws, but things are only flawed or flawless in comparison to the function they serve or role they fulfill.

For example: A hypothetical perfect chair would only be considered perfect as a chair; if we were to try to use it as a table we would find that it makes for a lousy table. A man who perfectly fulfills the role of a police officer will be unable to perfectly fulfill the role of a thief because the two roles have conflicting objectives.

So what function or role does God have that he might be called perfect in his fulfillment of it?

>So what function or role does God have that he might be called perfect in his fulfillment of it?

God transcends being, he is uncreated. He is perfect in the sense of completeness, God subsists in himself.

Is power the most important propogator of evil (in terms of western morals)? More importantly, is it desire that creates our innate yearning for power?

In the modern world are most of our desires fulfilled by the easy access and instantaneous gratification that television, porn and video games provide? I think yes, but I'd love for someone to refute me. I believe mankind is innately, even biologically, propelled to cooperate and coexist peacefully but throughout history the elites seem to be determined to prevent such an occurrence.

>This thread seems to smart for /his/
But I'll add my two cents because I'd like to see conversation that doesn't have personal attacks for once. I agree mostly along your terms I believe man is a social being and are wired to cooperate if faced with adversity. I'm not sure though about the "power/desire for power' question though
>>
>>1508140
Perhaps not power in and of itself, as power is only a tool to be wielded. The desire and pursuit of personal power at the expense of others? That is absolutely a propagator of evil. But then again we're using a very loose definition of evil

What did he mean by born again?

Also any links to study the bible, I have KJV but I don't trust it, any free internet links or interesting articles on theology?

John 3:1-21

3 Now there was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews. 2 This man came to Jesus[a] by night and said to him, “Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher come from God, for no one can do these signs that you do unless God is with him.” 3 Jesus answered him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again[b] he cannot see the kingdom of God.” 4 Nicodemus said to him, “How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother's womb and be born?” 5 Jesus answered, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. 6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.[c] 7 Do not marvel that I said to you, ‘You[d] must be born again.’ 8 The wind[e] blows where it wishes, and you hear its sound, but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes. So it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit.”

16 “For God so loved the world,[i] that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. 18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God. 19 And this is the judgment: the light has come into the world, and people loved the darkness rather than the light because their works were evil. 20 For everyone who does wicked things hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his works should be exposed. 21 But whoever does what is true comes to the light, so that it may be clearly seen that his works have been carried out in God.”

I dont know if this is the right board, but
Do you ever notice how these people created large empires from boats (spain, netherlands, england)
But how did they store enough fresh water?
Large crews and large amounts of passengers calls for a large amount of water every day.
They could not have possibly stored enough fresh water on the mayflower to last that crew a year. And they could not have possibly drank straight salt water.
So what I wonder is, how did they get their hydration?

Water was stored in casks and there was actually so much of it that people could even use this water to bathe. Sailors also drank a fuck ton of wine, also stored in casks. These things hold a bunch of liquid and are pretty easily stored.

If there is an afterlife, you have not committed a true crime by killing someone.

If there is no afterlife, you've destroyed an entire person forever.

Yeah but they aren't around to suffer the effects. But if there is an afterlife, you've essentially abducted and imprisoned the person by forcing an irreversible move on them.

I will tell you what happened. This is classified stuff, but what the hell, I will declassify it.

Over eighty thousand years ago, during the most recent ice age, in Africa, the first civilization arose. Africa was much less arid back then; Egypt, for instance, was all forest, and the Mediterranean did not exist as it does now; instead, there were only two much smaller inland seas or lakes.

I will not go into the history of Africa over the 70,000 years that followed. I shall instead focus on what happened near the end of it, which was also the end of the last and perhaps greatest civilization. Science and culture were at an unparalleled zenith. Massive, spired cities reached for the Heavens - millions of people grew up without want or need, all their desires provided for, with vast amounts of clean, sustainable energy available. War had been abolished 10,000 years before. Natural disasters were overcome or even averted. It was the Golden Age of mankind, it was paradise.
The snake in this paradise was curiosity. A man named Yacub (that's the way we write it, anyway... you might as well call him Jacob) was experimenting with genetics. He had already received two reprimands for his all-too-inhuman research, creating hideous animal hybrids with no regard for their well-being.

He finally went over the edge when he created what was called, after he was found out, the "Ekhelaji" - in their long-dead language, "ghost beast". The word was an anachronism; we would have called it a 'devil', but such words were alien to their world.
Fact is, Jacub was a sociopath. But his society had not recognized it. They believed love and understanding could overcome anything. They had not reckoned with a fluke: that one man would manifest all the evils they believed had been bred out of society thousands of years before AND be a genius.
Jacub hated his fellow people. He did not understand them, as they did not understand him. He eventually resolved to create a people of his own, in his own image. Full of hate and the desire to dominate, and with the physical prowess to do so, they would be the new mankind after overthrowing society. The people would never know what hit them.
He bred the first one in his own laboratory in what is now Sudan. Sudan is the birth place of the white race.
He named him "Yané" - 'Son'. The first man of a new race. Yacub said he was perfect. The man who ultimately k!lled him described him as a living nightmare: lanky, long-limbed, wiry, big hands and feet, protruding bone struts - and that skin, white, white as chalk, coldly reflective, with the veins obscenely shining through... and the eyes... the eyes like blue sapphires, which see only prey to hunt and k!ll.
>>
>>1507669
Yané moved with inhuman speed, possessed inhuman strength, and was driven by unheard-of blood lust.
Yacub's dream never came to flourish. When his creations numbered three dozen - one dozen males, two dozen females, every bit as brutal and deadly as the men - they turned on him and tore him to pieces. They abandoned the lab, and soon after encountered the first humans.
Over the following six months, they k!lled and pillaged and r*ped - more than eight thousand people died. Finally, an overwhelming force of the 'Tara, the ritual warriors who hadn't had to f!ght anyone for centuries, managed to overcome them. They were horrified at the creatures innate humanity - these were not alien monsters or animals, but transformed human beings. Yacub had forged a new human race from his own DNA.
The three dozen were slain, but the 'Tara did not allow the half-breed offspring of over a thousand r*ped and pregnant women to be k!lled. Society agreed: justice had to be maintained and they could not k!ll the children for the sins of their parents.
The blood was expected to have thinned-out, but over the generations that followed the "white" genes refused to disappear. Rather, a sub-class of society arose that refused to be stamped out - rather, proliferated.
When the ice age ended, some ten thousand years before our time, the African empires collapsed in the environmental upheaval, thanks in no small part by the brutal uprising of the whites.
Eventually, the were driven out... and the survivors moved North, to what is now known as Africa, where they flourished, while the African societies withered.

And now you know... the rest of the story.
