Is 2 x 2 = 1 more aesthetic than 2 x 2 = 4?
Is a flat earth more aesthetic than a round earth?
Is geocentrism more aesthetic than heliocentrism?
Is the theory of humours more aesthetic than modern medical theory?
Is God more aesthetic than atheism?
Is pain more aesthetic than joy?
Is truth more aesthetic than beauty?

What are the Bahais like? Are they a cult, the Islamic version of Mormons, or a bona fide religion?
Not very much like Mormons at all. Mormonism started as an updated version of Christianity and was founded by a man who was obviously a scam artist.
Baha Ulah seems like a much more sincere figure, and he started his religion out of more of a reinterpretation of religious history and religion. It's more like Unitarianism that noticed most religions talk about the same things and make an effort towards reconciling different faiths. Another way of putting it would be that Mormonism started out to correct Christianity, Baha'i started out as an effort to define a universal truth.
>>1669419
Ahmadiyyas are much more like Mormons, meaning they claim to be Muslims while hugely deviating from what is considered mainstream Islam.
Bahais aren't Muslims and never pretended to be ones. They are separate monotheistic religion. Their relationship with Islam is much like Islam's relationship with Christianity. Meaning, they claim to be completely new revelation while acknowledging the revelations given to Muhammad.

>Mormonism started out to correct Christianity
no
As many of you know, Portugal had a slightly different approach to its colonies when compared to other European powers, treating its natives better than the vast majority of other colonizing nations of the 19th and 20th century.
Was the independence of the Portuguese colonies inevitable? Would NATO backing save Portugal from having to give up Goa and Macao to India and China respectively? How would each colony look like if they were never decolonized?
>>1669405
what am i looking at here

I think its comparing the size of Portugal's colonies vs the size of the entirety of Europe.

I just read about the genocide of Circassians the Russians did. It's very disturbing.
What other genocides or massacres is Russia responsible for?
Crimean Tatars, if you could call that genocide.
They totally deserved it though, and commies finished them off later with deportations.
>>1669150
Well, I will say that Circassians didn't deserve ethnic cleansing. They are actually interesting people.
genocided the Balts a little bit
Hello, I'm Sam Harris. A young man told me that, that uh, hm, that you (break) believed in free will so.. I'd love to hear your arguments for this.
As a Sam Harris fanboy let me say that you sound like a faggot.
>>1669032
God has granted us free will. You're an edgy little faggot who says he doesn't believe in God.
So we'll just leave it here.

What is morality? Is it wrong to kill someone to save life? Is it right to steal from tyrants?
Killing the innocents in the name of Satan
>>1669021
Morality
principles concerning the distinction between right and wrong or good and bad behavior.
>is it wrong to kill someone to save someone's life
No.
>is it right to steal from tyrants
No.
When good has been abstracted, then evil has been implied.
So long and short are abstracted from distance.
Hot and cold are abstracted from temperature.
Before and after abstracted from sequence.
The enlightened person experiences without abstraction.
Convince me not to hate this man. I consider myself one of the furthest left people on 4chan, so I'm confused as to why so many people here think he's great when I've found everything he's said insufferable
>>1669019
>I consider myself one of the furthest left people on 4chan
>I consider myself one of the most enlightened redditors
>>1669019
He's just a confused old man. Not worth hating. It's not his fault that legions of retards think his logic-free pontification is deepity. It's not the retards' fault either, actually. They were born that way.
>>1669019
Yeah, i feel you. I never really hated him, nor did i enjoyed him, i tolerated his ideas.
But for me the trigger to dismiss him completely was him backing up Hillary, the reason being because Trump is worst kek.
What kind of revolutionary is that? Politcs isn't like sports competitions ffs. We're talking about people's life here.
Is Ken Burns' The Civil War accurate?
I've enjoyed it for the most part, but the beginning took more an angle that the war started because of slavery, instead of states rights.
>>1668982
>the war started because of slavery, instead of states rights.
Yeah that was where I stopped watching, I'm so sick of this PC shit now twisting history for the sake of politics.
Slavery was literally an afterthought for both sides, but the North (which didn't give a shit about salves at first) decided to ride the issue to the "moral highground". The war was fought over the states' rights to own slaves.
>>1668998
I agree with you there. But what I'm asking is does the bullshit spread into the information about the battles and war?
Motives can be argued and twisted, but the facts of battle can't be skewed that badly, can they?
What's it called? Where's it from? Who's wearing it (middle easterner?)

2/3 of the Byzantine Empire were in the Middle East and all the great cities except Constantinople were in that area too.
>you will never be Roman
>you will never walk to the local slave market
>you will never have an array of naked slave girls from across the world paraded in front of you
>you will never pick an astonishingly beautiful Germanic slave girl
>you will never take her back to your villa, drizzle high quality olive oil over her and proceed to make love to her
How do you deal with this?
Prostitution is legal in Germany, you could go there and fuck a Germanic slave-ish girl right now.
You know the streets in Rome had stepping stones at the pedestrian crosswalks, because there was so much street shitting that the city had to flush the streets like a giant toilet.
True story.

Anime and a visit to Japan made me curious about this phenomenon.
Why did the Japs decide to make new religions? Going through the wiki page on these movements, they seem to have alot of members.
While to a certain extent that seems a bit Frightening since I know nothing about these organizations, and all I know about new modern religions is that they are either cults or new agey bullcrap, on the other hand, I am really interested as to why these Japanese ones exist.
Are they just "life philosophy sort of religions"? Do the Japs like this development?
I know that new religions form from time to time in the west.
But after being to a trip in Japan and having a guide point out giant HQ buildings of new religions, I tend to think that something is different about these things.
I stay in Japan. What religions are you talking about?
>>1668885
The entire phenomenon:
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Japanese_new_religions
Especially the really young ones, to my understanding new ones pop out quite often?
>>1668898
Never heard of it man.
The only religious stuff I see is ceremonial stuff during festivals. Or people burning incense at temples/shrines
