How come Mongols fell off their snowball after three generations?
You'd think the greatest military power in the world at the time would have better means of maintaining their strength.

Infighting, and a huge chunk of the empire turning muslim which as we all know turns a country into a shithole

Wouldn't Islam make their better warriors?
A die hard spirit and a tighter organization.
>>1667914
Because they stopped being "The Mongols" and started being this, that and the other Khanate. A few centuries later, Timur styled himself the heir to Genghis Khan, and went on a conquering spree, but his army was little different from Persian armies before or after in composition, and he held court like a Persian Shah.
I hate to use a video game comparison, but it's too perfect: They got culture-flipped.
Why is Marx still considered an "edgy" philosopher?
>>1667834
are we being raided
>>1667834
Because he was a fat fuck who never worked a day in his life and could be considered part of the bourgeois

>"why do people think this is edgy?!"
Atleast fascists only promote revolution in their own natuons
How safe were streets in the ancient world?
Were people safe in their houses?
>>1667741
reckon they had gated communities in caesars rome?
>>1667741
"In the ancient world" covers thousands of years of history over the entire planet, so of course it varied a lot like everything else.
But despite that we can still say "a lot less safe than us," since modern industrialized countries are the safest societies ever by a wide margin.
>in the ancient world?
Elaborate
Would WWII be avoided if the USA didn't get into WWI? I mean, it would be only a political/territorial war, and not ideological (Democracy vs Monarchy). If the USA hadn't intervened in Europe's war, it would probably continue to be a bunch of empires and kingdoms, and with Austria, Germany and Russia being governed by strong moral figures the Bolsheviks would find a lot more trouble in seizing power, and so would Hitler and Mussolini.
Lol, USA wasnt that influencial by that time.
It was strong and the first superpower or near to be yes, but Europeans still didint give lots of shits about them.
>>1667709
The major causes for WWII were the human devastation of Europe and economic troubles, particularly the Great Depression. The compounded effects of those two factors, human and economic destruction, on Russia, Germany, etc. is what helped idealist demagogues to take power there, not the United States' intervention.
Did the idea of the great war being an "ideological war" between Democracy and Autocracy even exist at that time in Europe? I'm pretty sure it may have been part of US propaganda but that's about it.
>>1667727
You can notice that before WWI the tradicional monarchies were way more influential. When the USA intervenes and ends the war decisevily they, as the winners, tell the story with a lot of propaganda. And then the Austro-hungary empire is dissolved, Austria, a country that was one of the greatest european nations in all terms is simply reducted to its modern size and states that are no nations like Yugoslavia are created instead. Democracy took all Europe, and it may be explained by USA's influence as the winner.
>The only purpose for which power can be rightfully exercised over any member of a civilized community, against his will, is to prevent harm to others.
Can you refute this man?
Power will almost always be used against that member in the name of protecting him.

Suicides?
How common was it for troops to refuse to go over the top in WWI?
Why didn't the troops just murder all their officers and go home?
>>1667399
French mutinies. They stopped revolting when the military command stopped being pants-on-head retarded and kicked it down a notch to plain retarded.
>>1667399
Russians did exactly that but they didn't have trenches to begin with so it doesn't count.

Short answer?
Class structure
Propaganda/indoctrination
Honour/Fear of being branded a coward
Religion/Peridition
Now stop being an Bolshavik, anarchist COWARD and climb up that ladder private!
Prove to me that the Abrahamic religions, and other religions, are fake.
So I can finally dispel myself from these human made illusions. Wondering if they're real or not is quite a burden.
Thanks.
pic extremely related

At least Islam has it book dictated direct from heaven while Christians had a council and it was debated what books when in.
>>1667397
Abrahamic religions are real, it's just that god doesn't exist.
>>1667409
I meant real as in their supposed "relation" with God.
I had explored more of Richard A Muller's books(The Unaccomodated Calvin and Christ and the Decree: Christology and Predestination in Reformed Theology from Calvin to Perkins) regarding Calvin's views of Predestination and his overall thought in context.
So far, I end up rather confused particularly when I went to take a read from these two essays
https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=1&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0ahUKEwjIpJ7Jwv_OAhVBrY8KHUudAgQQFggeMAA&url=http%3A%2F%2Fbiblicalstudies.org.uk%2Fpdf%2Fvox%2Fvol12%2Fcalvin_lane.pdf&usg=AFQjCNH9m_wDXw7V0ohon9tYm7e5xZcGng
https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=5&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0ahUKEwjIpJ7Jwv_OAhVBrY8KHUudAgQQFggyMAQ&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.indieskriflig.org.za%2Findex.php%2Fskriflig%2Farticle%2Fdownload%2F1763%2F3943&usg=AFQjCNEb45ffnGMh0loonf1Q7wxmRPni4w
Both essays makes clear that Calvin believes in free will. But, the first by A.N.S Lane gives a more "libertarian" outlook(same with Muller). According to these two authors, Calvin is not a determinist.
The second labels Calvin as a compatabilist with respects to free will.
I hope the former Reformed guy can explain this better.
So far all I got is,
a)Calvin does believe in some sort of free will
b)He does appropriate elements of Medieval Catholic scholasticism
c)God decrees but on a human level, we have free will.
My knowledge isn't perfect and I certainly haven't finished reading both books by Muller. But I hope someone with a good background in Reformed theology can chime in on the matter
>>1667296
No matter what. Christianity is not compatible with being a libertarian.
You can try to spin it all your want, but doing economic actions out of self interest will not get you into heaven.
>>1667296
Calvin looks like a cute girl in that pic.

Nice spooks, fag.
All they've done was create only trouble within Europe and the rest of the world. Therefore I must ask the question, why, in detail of course.
Because actually this documentary shows me that Germans are indeed barbarians but it only gives me only a brief understanding of why they suck so much. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4ztOV2wrrkY

Can't tell if Anglo war monger or kike
>>1666967
Germans are an intrinsically evil and destructive people. They see stability, wealth, happiness, functional, developing and growing societies and they just get these urges to tear it all down, burn it to to ashes, gas it, and just do everything in their power to make things worse.

Roflmao, go back to /pol/
Do you ever look at really old photos and think,
"Every single person on the planet when this was taken is now dead"
>>1666900
I think I'm more saddened by the old videos.
The people who were filmed may have never seen their faces on a silver screen.
>Cleopatra lived closer to today than when the pyramids were built
Here's one I think about sometimes OP: despite everyone who was alive at the time of this photo's taking, we still believe in and follow many of the concepts at the time. We have agreed to maintain many of the nation-states from the time, many of the same systems of laws, constitutions, regulations, etc.
why do people think Van Gogh would appreciate being talked about hundreds of years later? He wouldn't have cried at seeing his paintings in a museum he would have been embarrassed
Based on what ground do you make these claims
because his art wasn't appreciated at the time
He received only one review in a newspaper during his lifetime, and he was pleased enough to write a letter of thanks to the critic
More than anything, Van Gogh wanted human connection, but he was utterly socially inept. If he knew how much he is admired today, he would almost definitely cry
bought these two items from flee market - need help translating - have looked around internet and failed..
