Just the most cruel and insidious.

>In 939, an Obodrite attack left a Saxon army routed and its margravial leader dead. Gero in revenge invited thirty Slav chieftains to a banquet whereat he killed all but one, who managed to escape by accident.[6] In response, the Stodorani revolted against German overlordship and chased the Germans across the Elbe, but Gero was able to reverse this before Otto's arrival in Magdeburg later in the year. He subsequently bribed Tugumir, a baptised Slav prince, to betray his countryman and make his people subject to Germany. Soon after, the Obodrites and the Wilzes made submission.[6]

Did anyone else ever have solipistic thoughts when they were a kid growing up, but before you read Descartes, Hume, Berkley, etc.? (i.e. wondered to yourself if you were the only "real" being in existence, and if everyone and everything around you was just a byproduct of your consciousness)

Certainly, I'm sure everyone has had them at least once

>>
>>1868964
Well i did and tried to dig deeper but only came to the conclusion that what applied to other people could be applied to others, and i was simply a byproduct of their consciousness. Then, i got confused.

I am looking to find an edition of the bible which is

1) Conservative in translation (doesn't fuck shit up with gender-neutral God, "inclusive" language, etc.)
2) But at the same time has footnotes that are critical of the sources and point out errors in traditional Christian interpretation, alternate viewpoints, etc.
3) Ideally also references where passages come up in secular literature
4) Critiques passages from a historical and archaeological perspective

Anyone know a good bible like this?

>gender-neutral God

actually in the original text god is as gender neutral as it's possible for ancient hebrew to get, he has a masculine pronoun but is described with feminine adjectives
>>
>>1868846
Probably a study bible version of a conservative translation such as the KJV, NASB, and ASV.
Otherwise Rotherham's Emphasised Bible has the most accurate translation.

How did alexander the great conquer an empire many times the size of macedon?
22 posts and 7 images submitted.
>>
>>1868833
He mostly conquered Persia, and some say he simply ruined what Cyrus had built. Persia just suffered from an incredibly incompetent ruler, who after his first defeat at the hands of Alexander spent all his time running East and promising Alexander everything West of the Tigris if he'd just stop.

So it's a large empire with an incompetent ruling class (so incompetent that the Egyptians just fucking allowed Alexander to walk in and almost instantly acknowledged him as their ruler) against a small kingdom with a competent ruling class and a reformed military ready to kick ass and take names.
>>
>>1868833
An experienced, loyal, well equipped, well supplied, professional army that experimented with combined unit operations with a heavy emphasis on mobile cavalry to support the flanks of a rigid and nearly impenetrable phalanx supported by all means of skirmishers and lightly armored melee units.

This is on top of arguably the greatest collection of bright, ambitious young men in history prepared for glory on the sunset of a fallen empire, Persia, just asking for a foreign invasion.

Tbh it is quite literally the stars aligning for Macedon.
>>
>>1868833
The Persian Empire was already in decline.

During the time of Alex's grandaddy, Philip, you had a big Satrapal war between the Throne and some irate anatolian satrap that was concluded in the Battle of Lake Manyas.

All those Greek Mercenaries? Yeah those motherfuckers profited in Persian civil wars. They were citizens from poor Poleis who have given up the civilian life and formed mercenary bands of hoplites who were in demand among the warring satraps.

>Didn't bring anything new to the table philosophically
>Didn't revolutionize literature (his idea of prose is making Jeanne d'Arc a whore)
>In terms of political commentary he said nothing that wasn't already the norm among the elites
>During his exiles he mostly wanked over foreign regimes like that of England (because their unjustifiably powerful nobility is so much better than our unjustifiably powerful nobility) and Prussia (because their king with questionably limited power is so much better than our king with questionably limited power)
>Whines about free speech, but uses limitations on free speech against his enemies (such as Rousseau) whenever convenient

What exactly is it that keeps Voltaire popular until this very day? I get why he was popular at the time, he was a controversial figure that undermined authority and he was edgy as fuck. But what did he even pass on to the next generation other than a few witty sayings? What is there in his work that's actually worth studying, as opposed to most other philosophes? And what is it that made Napoleon prefer this memelord over Rousseau, who actually wrote both literature and political philosophy that rightfully resonates into the present day?

You've been on /his/ for long enough to figure out the answer for yourself.
It's the Anglos.
It's also is, always has been and always will be the eternally perfidious Anglos.

Voltaire was a philosophical nonentity. He wrote edgy, barely literate shit. Just look at Candide.
>life is shit XD
So Voltaire, what do you suggest as an alternative to Leibniz?
>u-uh l-life is shit so you gotta just t-tend your own garden i guess hahaha #yolo

The only reason Voltaire is remembered, let alone considered a "philosopher." Was because he happened to live in England for a few months when the French got tired of his shit.
And what did he do there? The same thing the revolting hagfish did wherenever he wasn't being an contrarian shit.
He sucked up to them.
By felating the British middle-class' pathetic aspirations to worldliness and wit he ensured that he would go down in history.

Fuck Voltaire.
>>
I don't think people consider Voltaire a philosopher, just a thinker. He was a master memer.

After a long period of meditation and drug use along with an experience of consciousness where I could not part life itself from our own perception of what could only be defined as hell or more accurately purgatory I think I've came very close to the absolute meaning of our very own existence here.

Let me begin with the very meaning of all binary thought within life and more importantly what is very more understandable--human life.

We're all taught from the beginning to think within our own senses, and, as we should, because otherwise we would not be prolonged as a species for a relatively long time otherwise. This leads to multitudes of a common wealth of tradition and spiritualism based solely on the duality of socio and egocentric thought one learns from one's assigned family and culture. These methods of thought teach us to solely focus on specific elements of our senses for our greater survival first of all and as we grow older our prostration and independence. However in this due process we will all eventually meet it with the rebellion fueled contrarianism that is a last resort effort if you will to fuel our own redux of spirituality and meaning in a sense that is there in all of us to grab a further happiness we all probably feel as if we were robbed of at some point.

As of a coming to age we tend to focus on the latter of which following in the common tunnels of our species of our world culture at the time which have always remained largely unchanged and are all heavily influenced by the greater of our life itself (the universe) and the greater of our bodies (instinct.)

Now we'll delve into beauty and it's origin and how our senses have impacted this but first I'd like to delve into more of a personal feeling of symbolism behind them all.

We all grew up behind one of the many races of the world as I'm sure we're all aware of by now. We have the whites which largely originated in what I'd like to call neutral or arctic environments. Asians which originated and now have focused towards oceanic environments and a larger part of the mountainous Chinese republic. Then we have the still very physicality and nationalistically focuses Blacks who have been primarily focused within the lower hemisphere within heated terrain and harsher wilderness. I'd like to assign all of these colors to a set of neutrality which we are all familiar with which is of essence
>>
And as you can see I fell to my humanistic desires at this point lost my train of thought and took more drugs.

Anyway please tell me I didn't just lose 101 IQ points for nothing /his/

Post-War revisionism painted him as a figurehead in order to save Japanese society from complete overhaul, as was done in Germany. However, since Japan was not divided up between Soviets and Americans like Germany was, and the Allies realized that the cold war was just around the corner, they wanted a stable Japan from which to monitor mainland Asia. Thus Hirohito's role in world war 2 was downplayed by MacArthur, who I have to say I more and more have come to view as an idiot.

Hirohito was a Japanese Imperialist. He wanted to expand Japan's borders at the expense of others. But he was also a product of his time. He was an Imperialist in an era of Imperialists, he just happened to be on the wrong side.

The Japanese nation was by the 30's driven by the will of the Military, not the Emperor. While the Emperor certainly welcomed victories and hated defeats, Japanese aggression would have happened with or without him.

As the war progressed and the Nips constantly got blown out of the water, he started to show signs of extreme irritation at his admittedly rather incompetent military staff. He began to become involved in minutae much more and after the defeat at the Philippine Sea he outright ordered another naval task force be sent out to reclaim Saipain. This, and the US invasion of Leyte, prompted the ultimate Japanese debacle at sea at Leyte Gulf, though in the grand scheme of things it was just the final of innumerous Japanese naval fuck ups since 1942...
