Say, does self-learning actually work when it comes to programming?

People would always say 'learn to code' but I hardly suspect it's ever that simple. How can I employ self-learning in a way that I can actually be a good programmer? What are some good resources and things to do to make sure I'm actually learning? Also, where to start if I genuinely want to commit long-term to programming? I'm not necessarily looking for a job here, it's just something I've always wanted to do.

pls don't sink. I know you get plenty of those "I want to code" posts but I'm genuinely serious and I know exactly how hard it's going to be

I neglected mentioning that I took an Intro to Python course in college, and I'm generally just looking for something to do in my summer vacation. It would also increase my graduation credentials as a mechanical engineer (still a 2nd year so it's a good chance)

Well, I've been using an app called: Hide it pro, a.k.a Audio Manager, that disguises itself as a sound managing application but is actually an app that hides your files. Similar to a vault.
But after a couple of checks I've noticed that this app feeds quite a nice amout of data (near about 20mb on an average) per month. This app got a shit ton of permission requirements which do seem unnecessary. I'm really suspicious about this app.

Can any pro check it and confirm if this app is actually shady on any basis?

P.S.: OP has a more or less understanding of technology and wants to learn more.

Any news on the more budget radeon cards?

Thinking of picking up a 460x to replace my HD5870 now that I rarely play games anymore. Should be a decent performance increase as well as a large step up in efficiency.

Power efficiency, heat, etc.

I'm cutting down on everything. Going from an i5 750 to an i3 6600 too. Going to go with a smaller tower, micro atx.

Plus I just feel like an upgrade would be nice after having this pc for almost 4 years.
