Is it just me, or is Ubuntu 16.04 buggy as fuck? It seems like all of the Ubuntu spins and derivatives like Mint are prone to breaking

Idk man, I've got a lubuntu 16.04 pc and an Ubuntu mate pc and they're both running fine.

Of course, what works for me won't work for everyone else so idk...
>>
>>55465643

No, desktop.

I even tested Xbuntu in KVM first and it still crashed too much, which is uncharacteristic for XFCE

The damage has been done. If AMD sold thousands of these things, that's thousands of dead motherboards. The class action coming will sink them.

No ones motherboard broke dumbass the whole thing was overblown no mobos couldnt handle 6 extra watts there was 1 or 2 uncomfirmed reports out of thousands we saw nearly 0 response of damaged mobos.

>rename a folder with gigabytes of files
>next rsync copies the whole thing over again instead of just renaming the folder

Windows never did this with my backup utility. Why does Linux have to act so retarded?
9 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
theres no renaming support in linux. it moves the files to another folder with mv
>>
>>55466003
Do you even know how mv works? It just messes with directory structure while retaining the inodes. That IS rename.

>>55465113
Your problem is using simple tools and expecting complex behavior. You get what you ask for. A git tree wouldn't fuck this up, for example, but few people are crazy enough to use git everywhere.
>>
>>55466003
mv literally calls rename(2)

Is this series even worse than the 900 series? The GTX 970 of course being the worst card in recent memory. How will Nvidia recover? How did they get so outskilled by AMD?
37 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
>>55465105
I have two 970s and have never had any problems with them. Can even do 4K.
>>
>>55465105
But there's nothing wrong with the 900 series? They competed, and mostly won, against the 300 series.

>980 ti mostly beat fury x
>980 mostly beat 390x
>970 traded blows with 390
>960 traded blows with 380

And anything gtx 960 or less is irrelevant on AMDs side thanks to their massive driver overhead issue.

Only cards worth buying were the fury and the 380x.

Will 1060FE be a decent buy?

I wanted a blower type card for ~$200/250, but the reference 480 was a pretty big flop, I know it sold like hotcakes but the cooler was shit and the power draw issue is being memed to hell and back.

Will the 1060 FE have a better cooler than the 480? Even with a similar cooler it should run better because it's only 120w, right?

Things I'm looking for in the 1060
>run cooler than 75 degrees in games
>not be massive
>bigger, or more effective, heatsink than the 480
>no power draw issues

What does /g/ think? Will the premium they charge for the founders edition have them put in a semi competent cooler for once?

Pic is the abysmal cooler used for the rx480.

Fingerprinting is a new way of tracking you across websites.
It's being done right now by companies like Google.
Because unlike cookie based tracking you can't defeat it just by disabling cookies.
There is currently NO FOOLPROOF DEFENCE against fingerprinting (except quitting the Internet).

Google's privacy policy states
>Other technologies are used for similar purposes as a cookie on other platforms where cookies are not available or applicable
https://www.google.com/intl/en/policies/privacy/key-terms/#toc-terms-cookie

ReCAPTCHA probably contains fingerprinting code:
https://archive.is/9K5gs
This means that the majority of 4chan users could be being fingerprinted, and Google might know about your shitposting habits even if cookies are disabled.

Google releases limited hangout of how much they know about you:
https://news.slashdot.org/story/16/06/29/2038257/googles-my-activity-reveals-how-much-it-knows-about-you
>Oh, they're just remembering what YouTube videos I watched, nothing creepy about that, I already knew they were doing it!
>I guess all those people who fear tracking really are just conspiracy theorists!

Daily reminder to do all your Amazon / eBay / LinkedIn / botnet shit in a completely separate browser to your Googling or buying shit.
It's currently the ONLY way to truly defend against fingerprint tracking.
Double points if you have each browser running in a different VM with a different OS.
Triple points if you have each browser's VM configured with a different VPN connection.

I probably spend more time ragging on the TBB than it deserves.
It makes a good effort at protecting against fingerprinting, it's just the wrong approach.
Spoofing a different fingerprint for each site you visit is potentially a much more powerful approach
>>
I've had the same IP address forever, why should I care.
>>
>>55464729
IP address probably has some use for tracking, but it would be foolish to think all traffic that comes from one IP address is linked.
Most people have dynamic IPs which would mean their browsing habits would get linked to random strangers'.
And schools, businesses, and homes tend to have one IP that is shared by many.

I have this idea for a website. Similar-ish idea to 4chin when it comes to anonymity. The big difference is content hosting. The website will store ZERO data.

For example, if you make a thread. Your thread gets sent to the main server then that server broadcasts your thread to anyone watching. however if you are not sitting listening to the site and you miss the broadcast. That data is gone. The server only holds it for a second to send it out then that data is destroyed.

You would obviously have much more lurking because you need to watch for every post. but no posts could get deleted or removed. no images or files could be deleted or removed.

Im sure I did an awful job explaining this. What do you guys think?

Exactly like that! I didn't know that was a thing but it sounds right.

You have to be watching when the post is made if you want to see it. obviously you can implement auto lurking for multiple threads but thats the main idea.
