Non reference 480 using reference pcb and an 8 pin can beat a gtx 980.
I'm impressed.
Pic related Is the reference card with only a 6pin, but there's room for better overclocking if the card is allowed to draw more power.
>>55470935
So OCed 480 is reaching OCed 970 levels
Nice

Are there any decent PowerPC-based distros for use on XeLL?
>>55470863
Too busy talking about graphics cars
>>55470863
Isn't XeLL for Xbox? Those don't run on PowerPCs.
>>55470900
Xbox 360 uses a tri-core PowerPC-based CPU, so therefore it'd use PowerPC architecture-based linux distros, right?
I've been loyal to Mozilla products for decades, but I've had enough. Firefox is SHIT. Sucks up too much processing power, always crashing, it can never decide how to interact with Flash.
What are some new browsers to try? Is Chrome any good now? It sucked up a lot of processor a few years ago.
>Chrom*
>good
>>55470844
nope, you're stuck with firefox anon. I'm thinking of using an old version when it used to be good in sandboxie and hope I don't get infected, thoughts?

You're clearly doing it wrong. You probably have 20 toolbars installed or something.

Just use about:performance if you are on 47.0. There you click on disable and its gone. Don't Klick on deinstall, because that won't work.

I just use VLC regardless of what anyone says because I have yet to find a codec it doesn't support and it's on every OS I've tried.

So eurofag here thinking about getting the 480,thing is cant really decide if I want to wait for the non reference cards.Do we have any info on how much better they will be than the reference model? Are they going to be worth the extra wait and money?
Wait
Or trust the leaks that show it at 1400MHZ reaching 980 perf on dx11 stuff let alone dx12
Where's the 470, lads?
>>55470349
The reference cards are trash. Most custom cards will have an extra pin that will solve the PCI E drawing too much power problem.

Youngfag here(over 18) who didn't get into computers until late in my life.
Can we talk about major events in the history of computers and how they went down, and your thoughts at the time?
Things like the first dual core processors, which I actually do remember a little about.
AMD buying ATI, Nvidia buying 3dfx, cyrix dying, the Athlon xp, the slow decline of VIA, etc
I'd love to learn more about these things while seeing it from other perspectives.
Cheers /g/

I’d just like to interject for a moment. What you’re refering to as Linux, is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I’ve recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux. Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX.
Many computer users run a modified version of the GNU system every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of GNU which is widely used today is often called “Linux”, and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the GNU system, developed by the GNU project.
There really is a Linux, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the system they use. Linux is the kernel: the program in the system that allocates the machine’s resources to the other programs that you run. The kernel is an essential part of an operating system, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete operating system. Linux is normally used in combination with the GNU operating system: the whole system is basically GNU with Linux added, or GNU/Linux. All the so-called “Linux” distributions are really distributions of GNU/Linux

Thank you Stallman god.
You have nothing but the clothes on your back, temporary lodging, and ten thousand dollars in cash. You also have a notepad and a pen. What do you put on your shopping list?
Cheap as shit phone, like the Moto E, laptop under 200$ be it ThinkPad or Chrome book whichever is cheaper, and this it. I've got to find a job and a place to stay before anything else matters.
In this economy I'd rather not risk blowing through my savings too fast.

$9990 of loli doujinshi
$10 in food
>>55470084
First thing I'd get is a computer, preferably one with SIM support (you can find this on the odd chromebook or win10 tablet these days). Then I'd pick up whichever prepaid $2 SIM gave me the best data rates, and I'd get working on finding a job. While that was running, I'd purchase some clothes that are not my pyjamas, for the eventual interview, a month's grocery's (minus anything that needs refrigeration), and a phone. I need to make sure I save enough cash for a deposit, and the uber fees that I'll have to pay in order to get around. If I have leftover cash, I'll spend it on more clothes, food, etc.
