its shit /thread
>>60063326
the catch is AOC
it's either going to have artifacts, weird coloring or lost uniformity
look at dell if you want something more decent at reasonable money
>>60063326
AOC are lower down in the binning than even Acer, i mean sure, some people are lucky enough to get a decent one, but it's pretty [lottery]
I really need a new monitor myself, got a 22" Dell U2209, and i'm not sure if 24" will be enough, or if 27" will be too much, i don't play any twitchy high fps games so i don't particularly need high refresh, though free sync might be nice.

You know what it is anon
what email providers have you discovered that value users anonymity
which are least likely to share information with:
1)western government agencies
2)data-gathetering companies?
Just tried making a mail.com address and they have a mandatory captcha verification created by google that can't be finished through tor or vpn, so that's out of the question.
Host your own.

Why are all mobile sites so shit and buggy /g/?
Even worse, why do they sometimes remove the request desktop option so that we are forced to use their shitty mobile site?
Dunno. It wasn't always this way. Back in late 2012 and 2013 mobile internet waws great. Now it's even worse than it was back in 2011, because even desktop versions loads faster now. And don't even get me started on fucking AMP.
Because Web """"""developers"""""" are cancerous retards who don't actually know how to program. They just cobble spaghetti code together on top of some shit-tier JS framework that is the current meme that day.

What do you mean?
As the title says, I played a little on the CPY version then I received the game as a gift, the problem is that the saved games are not working on the original thing, as it's the standard edition, when the CPY one is deluxe edition, so there are some DLCs missing and stuff.
I found this link on reddit saying it's supposed to fix this, but I have no idea how to use that .CS file:
https://gist.github.com/nta/ad7ad4b3399e781200817d231788df4d
Can please someone explain it to me what I'm supposed to do with it?
Thanks!

What does /g/ think of the AI revolution? That is, not a martial revolution, but the advancement of AI in general?
There's a lot of wild statements going on aobut what it might bring, from we wuz a K5 civilization to Skynet, and a lot of different estimates as to when it'll happen.
still early days
>>60062937
>What does /g/ think of the AI revolution? That is, not a martial revolution, but the advancement of AI in general?
Still pretty early desu. I mean, with deep learning AI has gotten an interest boost, but it's still fairly limited to pattern recognition or highly narrow domain specific tasks (like driving a car / car safety features).
>om we wuz a K5 civilization to Skynet, and a lot of different estimates as to when it'll happen.
A general-intelligent AI (and a successive super-intelligent) is nowhere near happening, and I personally don't believe it will ever happen. AIs are particularly good at solving domain tasks, but they will never be able to understand context.
For example: An AI algorithm may be extremely well-suited for telling dogs and cats apart. But a human can see a picture of a dog looking animal in a tree and infer that that cannot possibly be a dog (because dogs don't climb), whereas an AI would simply look at features and have no understanding of context.
>>60063257
>whereas an AI would simply look at features and have no understanding of context.
i see no reason why an AI can't be taught to recognize both a dog and a tree, the fact the dog is "in" in the tree, and find relevant problems with the fact that the dog is in the tree, given information about dogs and trees
current AI's are limited in scope, but don't assume what we current have is as good as it'll get
I bought a macbook pro 2016 with touch bar a month ago. I regret it. Don't get me wrong, it works well, it's fast and it looks really nice. I like the keyboard too. But it just dawned on me that I spent £1500 on an object that isn't really anything more than, well, an object. I think the biggest issue is that I'm likely never going to use it in public because it will make me look like a complete cunt. But that defeats the point of having a laptop. I wish I just went for a bog standard £500 laptop. What's more, this is the laptop I'm probably going to be using for the next 3-4 years.
I guess I'm saying that you really need to think twice before buying one of these.
Lurk more. Should have bought the 2014-2015 model.
sell it and buy 2015 MacBook Pro (with maxed conf)
>>60062904
Why would using it in public make you look like a cunt?
Being embarrassed about what phone or laptop one is using, be that a bulky thinkpad or new macbook seems like a waste of energy.

>over half the students in compsci and software engineering have never programmed once in their life, probably closer to three quarters
>and they chose to study computer science at university in order to pursue a career
I thought you guys were projecting or just fucking around with that CS graduate meme but it's fucking real. Why are any of you insecure about your job prospects?
>people go to university to learn, programming being one of the things
>expects people to already know how to program just because you the learned it in your free time
You're the one that's insecure. Yes people go to university to learn you imbecile. Some start from zero, some have a headstart but ideally it will balance out. Stop being a cocky asshole and use your headstart for good, to actually get in lead and maybe even help other students. Then again you probably never leave your bedroom.
>>60062861
ITT: OP is amazed that you go to learn something to learn something.
>>60062890
I expect a person who wants to persue a career successfully to consider gaining experience, if not simply to find out whether that is what they want to do with their life or not. If you are going to pump serious money into university, why waste it on something you have never explored?
If I wanted an arts degree, I'd be insane not to practice that art at least weekly.
Hey /g/, I'm buying a new hdd and I've decided to switch to Linux for the first time. I've been studying this transition and I want to hear your thoughts.
- I've chosen CentOS 7 minimal for its performance and stability. I'll add whatever packages I need on top of it.
1) I understand it will configure the network during install right? So I can use yum to download what I need.
- I'll stick to Legacy BIOS and won't go with UEFI since the features aren't worth it to complicate my install.
- I've decided to use XFS instead of ext4 or BtrFS. Ext4 doesn't store files contiguously and btrfs is slow with accessing the same file for write successively.
- As partitions I'll have swap(12GB), /boot(3GB), /(200GB) and /home(200GB). 585GB will stay unallocated for now.
2) From what I understand Linux installs software by scattering it's files in different directories right? So there's no point in creating a partition for software. That's why / is so big.
- As a DE I'm going with KDE Plasma. It's more versatile, consumes less ram and only 300mhz more CPU demanding than Gnome.
3) For extra performance I can just close Plasma and run the software from the CLI. It doesn't need Plasma for it's GUI to function right?
- And finally, for an internet browser, I'm going with Brave. It's based on Chromium so it's fast, has all the Google botnet removed and supports most of Chrome's extensions.
What do you guys think?
Uefi will not complicate your install. In fact, it may be easier to go with uefi
If you are new, use ext4
Does anybody knows if there is an AMD GPU with DVI-I or better with D-sub that uses the Polaris architecture? I want to keep my projector and I hate these HDMItoD-sub lag boxes.
But d sub is another name for vga
>>60062807
DVI and HDMI are signal-compatible so just get a cheap passive adapter. If you want DVI to VGA you need an adapter box, that's digital to analog.
>>60063094
I used d-sub because this is /g/ and I thought that you fags are posh and require correct use of terms.
>>60063112
I would like to not add any more lag. DVI-I is not digital. It's digital AND analog and I have like three DVI to D-Sub adapters from my previous GPUs.
What are some gucci USB drives for EDC? I specifically like metallic cap-less ones you can put in your keychain.
I always had these gold Kingston ones but they're USB2.0 only, looking for an upgrade.

There is that one that Samsung makes . I have a 16 gb one
