Your mom tells you she has read up on some tech stuff, and asks you kindly to teach her how to get off the botnet. She tells you she's too old to learn ubuntu, but would like to be able to learn some basic hacking skills so if it's needed, she'll learn ubuntu as well.
She says she would like to get off the botnet using windows, because that's her primary computer and it's also on her work laptop.
What do you respond? Also, be nice... she is your mother after all.
Mom, until you get off Facebook there's no point.
Mom, you just contradicted yourself. You said you were too old to learn ubuntu.

Some creep has started peeping through my windows at night. I need surveillance cameras that can record directly to a memory card or to the computer. Don't want any of that DVR shit. Phone app is a plus but not necessary, cheap camera with NIGHT VISION is the most important.
Please help

What are some essential networking gear, and other general tech that you need for your own property?
I'm moving into my own place for the first time, and I want to know what I might need. All that comes to mind so far is:
>3rd party router
>Ethernet cables
>Ethernet switch
Anything else I should have? I couldn't do much before because my parents had the whole "we don't need it so why buy it?" mentality. Because I'm renting, naturally I can't make any modifications like run ethernet through the walls.
For networking you are set. If you get into difficulties with running cable, you should look into getting PoE adapters (or whatevers is it called).
Your router probably already has WiFi, if not, get one that has.
Assuming you already have a PC and a phone, you should be set.
Everything else you should buy as the need arises.
Dear Americans, please use an electric kettle to boil your water. A microwave is not made for boiling water.

How do I make MPC save subtitles to screenshots (alt+I or F5)? Vanilla doesn't work, madVR + xySubFilter also doesn't work. (on default settings)
What do I change to make it work.
I'm starting a managed services company. What services can I resell (think AV, Backup, Remote Monitoring and Patch Management)? Should I bother whitelabeling?
got old Fujitsu amilo with win xp and sticker - vista ready.
Put SSD in it
its recognized in bios
installation of windows starts
but when choosing where to install and how to partition
it only creates single partition and message that google might put in english as:
>"Windows cannot be installed to this disk. This computer's hardware may not support booting to this disk. Ensure the disk's controller is enabled in the computer's BIOS menu."
I checked bios
not much I can set, I disabled AHCI, re-enabled

I like FreeBSD, OpenBSD and NetBSD.
ZFS is the best thing that has ever happened. FreeBSD FTW
Linux user here, thinking about installing *BSD in a VM to play around to see what's different about it. When BSD do I choose?

>[Sennheiser] closed headphones are garbage.
Why do people say this? I really like my HD598Cs and HD 380 Pro. What are they hearing that I'm not?
Redpill me on surface products. Are they actually that bad?
Yes.
They're overdesigned like apple products and they actually manage to have worse specs than even the shittiest 2017 macbooks.
They really should have went all in and obliterated apple at their own game instead of trying to play "industrial design company" like sony did back in the early 2000s.
Looking at how much the price increase as you upgrade the hardware and the massive number of older surfaces you can find on sale at ridiculous prices: they're definitely bad. Almost everyone I met with one regretted buying it. Don't fall for the meme OP.
This thread is about the appreciation of horology, as well as the micro-engineering and materials engineering that are required to make a fine watch, clock, or other timepiece.

Why do brainlets hate on C++? Do they think we're still all writing C++98?
it keeps getting shittier, especially the syntax. by 2040 it will be an unreadable pile of special characters
I don't really like the idea of a language so utterly complex that it lets you do things 10 different ways, none of them are compatible with each other except when they ARE, and you're actively discouraged from using more than one of them at a time.
Meanwhile C just keeps getting better~
