What are your career goals and where are you on them now? Give me a little introduction to you- age, interests, career path, etc.

If you want to know about GS, the major thing I learned is how incredibly reputational they are. Not only will they evaluate all decisions based on gain, they will also strongly evaluate how it makes them look.

NYC has been, so far, all it has promised for me. High finance really was worth the push it required.

Is it still worth it to open a vanguard account if I don't have income right now?
I could dump about $5-10k into it but I wouldn't be able to put anything into it afterwards for about 2 years

Yes. Open a Roth IRA with them and max it out 5500 each year. 3 years from now you'll be ready to add more.
>>
>>1338352
>Each Year
I do not have that each year.
I have $10000 cash right now. I will not have any income outside of basic living expenses for the next 2 years.
>>
Unlikely. Without a steady income, it's probable that you'll need or want to withdraw the money in the short term. Maybe some emergency will arise, or maybe some shiny toy will catch your eye. Either way, you'll raid your account, which is the worst thing you can do for your long-term performance.

Smart investing requires two things:

1. Steady income; and

2. Adequately sized emergency fund.

Once you've accomplished these prerequisites, then you'll be ready to invest like a grownup.

>"friends" want to go to some trips and adventure for 4th of July weekend
>will cost $300-$500
>I am debating whether or not I should go
>Have another vacation and will be partying it up in the 21st of July with another set of friends
>Thinking I should instead spend my money on my second set of friends (whom I've known longer)
>First set of friends might be good professional connection in the future though

What do /biz/? Would you spend money socializing with friends? Or would you rather save/invest it?

Money or friends? I understand that if you have a lot of the former, you will also have a lot of the latter.

What would pic related do?

i started watching while bitcoin was at $200 coming up from the floor, but this isn't a brag thread so I'm willing to admit I started holding at $400. I finally zoomed out for the first time since i started, and holy shit i'm finally on team moon for crypto. yes im shilling, i'm so happy im going to the moon i dont give a shit. after brexit im 50-50 crypto/usd. i say crypto because i got that eth too.

speaking of, people who say eth will never be worth more than btc because of the whole "if they have the same market cap, since there are more eth in circulation eth will be worth less" are idiots. btc is gold: there's only so much of it, it gets mined and people keep it for value. eth is oil: it gets mined but more can very slowly be made, and people need it to run their shit. you people aren't thinking about once we go full dystopian, way past the singularity and literally everything is computers. corporations will be holding on to billions of eth. gold goes from miners to people. eth goes from miners to gas stations to cars and everything that makes your balls warm

now someone argue me out of this so i dont blow half my worth on funny internet money

Ether right now is like oil before the industrial revolution. It's not very valuable and doesn't have much application. Once dApps really take off--when something greater than the DAO comes along--the value of ether will explode. This is why I keep telling you fucks to go all in on ether and not bitcoin. Bitcoin has already reached its critical mass. It won't be worth more than $1500. But ether has the potential to be worth hundreds.
>>
>>1338263
Where do you buy ether?
Why didn't it skyrocket when DAO was funded with 180mil?
Why do you think BTC will cap at $1500?
>>
We need a sticky to a link where you can buy Ether instantly with any kind of currency and debit card.

So far most people don't even know about cryptocurrency, not even /b/ and reddit.

I'm going to be buying a foreclosed house at auction less than a month from now. I have 20k in the bank, a full time job making 45k/year and own a rental property outright that is worth ~40k. My credit score is "Good" at around 690.

What's my best bet to secure a loan for 20k in the next 3 weeks. Take out the equity on my rental property, or get a private or bank loan and from where?

Thanks.

I have only about $1000 to invest, not much but still i'd like to make some extra money. Advice?
15 posts and 1 images submitted.

save it til you have enough for a down payment on a house.
or use it for a rainy day.
or go on vacation.
1000 is not alot to invest.
and unless youre completely savvy on how the stock market works and how finance works you should look to do what was listed above.

How else should one learn to play with stocks?
>>
>>1338169
>wait until you have a lot of money on the line before you make all the inevitable beginner's mistakes

Don't listen to this guy, OP. As long as you have no credit card debt, $100 is enough to start investing. Play around, buy some stocks, read A LOT, and get all the dumb mistakes out of your system. The lessons you learn even losing a few hundred now will save and make you thousands down the road.

I suggest downloading Robinhood or using a low-fee broker like TradeKing. Just get out and buy some stocks in conpanies you're interested in.

London has fallen. UK will become Russian oligarchs puppet state before 2020. Russia controls Europe as major super power before 2030.

Good.

that is never how it works with ruskies

Serious topic.

Step 1. Register a ltd as a brokerage in least strict country, say Cyprus, Malta or someshit. With least taxes.
Step 2. Have developers code the app with javascript and mysql.
Step 3. ... now here's where I'm clueless on. How to get "into" USA stock markets.

You really don't think believe smarter and with more money than you haven't already considered this yet?
>>
>>1338085
I honestly don't think that... There are EU brokerages which work on classical system, phone calls and insane % fees. Time to move on with time, competition never hurt nobody. Except for Nokia, maybe.

I'd suppose most people be like "damn starting a brokerage must be impossibly hard".
>>
hate to bump, thought this is a relatively simple question. Do I need to consult global banks to get "access" to "virtual trading floor"?

Where do I get to find the regulations of establishing trading and such? Google's not giving me anything and I doubt visiting a local bank for "advice" would be a smart idea

Make $100k/year average net for 10 years and save all of it somehow without spending any money is the fastest and easiest way.

Alternatively you could just earn $250k/yr net for 4 years, or $500k/yr net for 2 years or $1million/yr in one year.

Or you could earn $10million in one month and then spend $9million of it, or you could keep it or you could earn $100million

But you will need very high quality kneepads

I'm dual majoring in Finance-CS at a target this fall, but what kind of CS classes should I try to enroll in that could help in finance (like modeling, quant work, etc.)?

First year it's going to be tough to really get into that, there is a lot of basic math/C.S. skills you need to build. Data structures is really important especially for interviews in all industries. Also definatly stats, especially if your school has something like programming intensive econometrics. Get an internship (next summer) and research experience (school year) under your belt. If you can't get into an actual quant finance role freshman summer, do something engineering/C.S. related that'll look good on your resume (i.e. don't do a non-quant finance internship at a no-name firm). In the end having outstanding experiences will be what gets you the job, not classes.

Forgot to mention, your primary focus should be keeping your GPA high. It sounds bad, but your skills won't mean shit to a finance firm if you don't have that near perfect GPA (unless your dad owns the place).
