We could see a potential European banking crisis sometime next year from the brunt of negative interest rates and the general monetary policy decisions made by the ECB (refusing to ease earlier despite falling NGDP).

There could also be a catastrophic terror attack or some kind of international relations crisis. Potentially Syria attacking Israel, Russia attacking America in Syria, China attacking Japan in the South China Sea, something along those lines.

Ok, here's a real question.

I'm going to take some time off soon. My basic expenses are covered by rental income and I have about 50k in cash.

I'll probably need some of it it to pay my tax bill and for emergencies, but I'd like to put it somewhere reasonably stable with reasonable liquidity but that has better return than the 0.1% my savings account offers.
