>I fell for the STEM meme
3rd year comp. engy and I'm sick of it. I barely go the lectures and I'm behind in math. I wanted to learn about philosophy and become a documentary filmmaker but I fell for the meme. I'm 23 years old and it feels like my life is basically over.

You're still learning math in 3rd year?
Are you doing part time uni or have you repeated or something?
>>1563502

There's a bunch of math classes in my degree, I thought that was standard.
Analysis, algebra, function theory, systems/transforms, statistics, numerical analysis etc.
But that isn't the point.

I've been studying up on the art of influencing people and getting them to do things that you want, and the main point of it all is basically to make them want to do it. But here's my problem: how do you find out what motivates specific people to do things? How to find out that particular fish's preferred bait without directly asking them? How did Steve Job's convince all those people to work for him even though they were getting fucked over? Is it something some people just inherently have or can this trait be learned?
By talking to them conversationally and being candid.
>How did Steve Job's convince all those people to work for him even though they were getting fucked over?
Appealed to their ego, stroking it with charm and hyperbolic compliments and other times bullying and denigrating them.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maslow%27s_hierarchy_of_needs
that's a good start. also recognize fear is beneath a lot of emotions and is perhaps the strongest motivator. anger, jealousy, selfishness, greed all stem from fear so if you can figure out how to play off someone's fear, you can manipulate them easily.
>>1563391
Having said that, you should not look to Steve Jobs is a terrible role model for manipulation because he had this huge reputation that allowed him to get away with stuff - just like Stanley Kubrick. Although Stanley Kubrick was far more subtle and long-game in his manipulation, he did - after all like to remind people he was a fine Chess player.
However both people were known as "geniuses" you're just some shmoe, you'll get told to fuck off if you go full Steve Jobs.
For begingers, you need to try the Louis Theroux/Columbo approach
>Hides his intelligence
>Gets people to be very candid and uncensored
>Gets people to reveal their weaknesses because they think you won't exploit them
But the best advice I can offer is to become a great conversationalist.
Then you can move onto "framing".
Learning how to cold-read people is good too.

Which quadrant are you on /biz/?
>>1563257
Which is the one where you own people?
That one.
Shouldn't that be Quinrant, or Quintant since there's 5 options?
>>1563270
No, because anyone claiming to be in the lower right box is automatically assumed to be lying, so there's really only four.
I paid off my student loans this year, I own my car (paid off too), I have no outstanding debts and last I checked, a decent credit score. But I have very little renter's history and only make about 30k a year right now. My gf works but only part time right now, combined household income scratches a bit above 40k/yr.
Can we afford a house, and more importantly, SHOULD we get one? Currently renting from a family member and not happy about the arrangement but apartments in our area are shit and I feel like i'd be throwing money into a burning pit...
>>1563237
How long have you been with your girlfriend? You two could break up and you would likely end up paying the loan alone.
If you want to tether your ass to a piece of property that nobody will probably want to buy once you're ready to sell.
>>1563237
>we
Fucking stop right there.
"We" aren't doing shit. Do you really want to pay a mortgage on a place you don't live anymore? Buy the house by yourself when you can afford it or when you fully pussy out and marry the chick. At least then you'll have to have a judge split up the mortgage when you get divorced.
Does having money make women love you?
No, but it'll make some them pretend they do.

Yes. Anyone who says otherwise is either extremely naive or in denial

Hey /biz/, got any tips to a musician as to how to promote and advertise my music? There's so much music that it's hard to get heard and seen. What do?
>>1563160
YouTube ads are good for that.
>>1563160
good music sells itself, if you need to advertise, your shit is trash and you may as well not even bother trying.
>>1563199
another cheap way I just thought of if you insist on advertising your shit music is to donate to one of those faggot streamers who will play your song of choice on their stream for like a $3 donation.
You'll never find a cheaper way to advertise up to ~10k - ~20k people for $3 dollars

So I downloaded an app called forex game from the play store. The idea of it is that you start with virtual $1000 and you practice binary forex trading. Now I've been doing it for a few hours and I've already made $350 off of that first $1000. So I've heard the saying "If it seems too good to be true, it probably is." and I've found it to usually be true in my life. So is this a scam? What's the catch? Or do I just somehow have a knack for binary forex trading? Also how do I know which binary forex brokers I can trust versus which ones are scams? Pic related, it's the broker that runs the app.
>>1563086
This is app basically makes it look easy. If you compared the app forex pair prices to the actual prices you will see differences. They want you to think it's easy so you deposit money with them and then lose it all. remember - all binary brokers want you to lose, because when you lose THEY get your money.

Hi everyone. I am wondering what is the most I can expect if I invest 50k into a low risk stock/fund/investment? I'm hoping to get around 5k a year, but I understand if it isn't possible.

How do you expand after you buy a rental property? Do you just save enough using your new source of income for the down payment on another mortgage?
The equity you have in the rental can be used as equity towards getting a second property. Eventually you can get to the point where you have millions tied up in your assets, and no longer require cash deposits at all
>>1563055
>The equity you have in the rental can be used as equity towards getting a second property
Could you clarify?
>>1563055
Do you mean I can essentially reuse the down payment from the first mortgage on the second assuming I kept up with repaying the interest on the first rental property?
If your human resources needed to hire a new intern for a software position, given all things the same, would your company hire someone pursuing a degree in
>Computer Engineering or
>Computer Science
>>1563032
depends, but probably computer science.
computer science because it can deal with programming in a more abstract sense, which is important, because programming paradigms are becoming more and more abstract.
a computer engineer may be more useful for embedded IOT type applications, which a computer scientist might have to do more reading-up to do about.
>>1563040
Yeah, that's what my intuition says as a computer scientist
I also consider that having the title of Engineer on your resume makes some hiring managers believe that Computer Engineers are more qualified than Computer Scientists.
There are some government contracting companies that hire from our school and I've had electrical engineers get software positions over me in the same job.
I don't want to be pessimistic but its happened more than once now where hiring decisions for software positions are given to engineers instead of computer scientists
>>1563032
If you're going for software development, your best friend is Google. Don't waste money on a degree. Get enough experience at home to get by, get an entry level job, and work your way up. Nobody in the field cares about the degree anymore. You won't get into debt and you'll get paid to learn.
