I think the real downer for DS2 wasn't the gameplay, it was the tone

I hated all the characters. I hated their uninteresting, rambling stories.
I didn't sympathise or relate to them at all.

I don't have any sort of emotional baggage weighing over me from not having a dad, I just figured it'd be an essential detail to have for later on in the story.
