Sami Zayn is unsurprisingly underutilized on the main roster. There is no storyline, no proper build of character given to him by creative. The man's chase of title in NXT was some of the best times of the yellow brand.
What Sami needs some proper direction and character development. Right now he's entirely reliant on Kevin Owens since Owens is the one who has received an actual push and a reasonable level of credibility on the show, SZ needs KO for relevance however SZ being the babyface, this aspect of reliance on a heel, absolutely hurts him and stunts his potential.
