Stanley Parable might be up your alley

The characters aren't bad.

Beck is what you'd expect from a spiritual successor to a dead franchise; resembling the main character in a vague manner while trying to look hip and new. He's pretty much a modern Mega Man without being the blue bomber in any way. He's also got a striking face that is easily recognized, and his color scheme is equally noticeable. It's a simple yet good design overall.

Yooka and Lailie (sp?) are unique enough in that it's a tiny bat and a chameleon, both being somewhat common creatures in old or forgotten platformers, yet still standing out as their own thing. The chameleon is reminiscent of Gex and Croc, while the bat is your typical useful support character. While I don't know much about it other than that hilariously stupid Game Grumps debacle (it was GG, right?), I do know that the character design stuck in my mind for a long time since I can say "Oh, that's Yooka and Lailie" without question.

Not sure who the chick is, nor her bubble dude, but I like her costume. So that's something, I guess. Either way, all of the characters are memorable in some way, which is a clear sign of good character design. A good design will stick with you for a long time, just like classics such as Mario and Crash Bandicoot. I can't say the same for the quality of their games, as they all met quite the unfortunate end, but as far as characters go, they're well done. If only the effort that went into their designs also went into making their games just as good.
