OH WE HATE IT IN SAM RAIMI'S SPIDER MAN BUT LOVE IT IN EX MACHINA
I just finished this. Anybody else here see it? Thoughts?
I enjoyed it just because of the weirdness and how emotionless and blunt everybody was. The story itself was intriguing at first, but the second half got boring.
Obligatory:
What animal would you choose? Or would you suicide likebutter biscuit bitch?
Which reminds me of a thought I had while watching it: what the fuck is so bad about being an animal? I have often daydreamed about being animals, wished it even. I have no idea why it was seen as such a bad thing that people would actually kill themselves.

Just saw it yesterday. It's lovely, it's like Kafka brought to the screen. I dug the epic minimalism as well, even the title brings to mind the simplicity of Dostoevsky titles, like The Idiot, or The Possessed.
I'd like to give it another watch before I try to delve too far into the subtext of it.
Oh, and black panther. I like cats
I got really excited because I thought it would be more about crustaceans. I was thoroughly disappointed. Speaking of crustaceans, I know the whole crab legs thing is a meme, but they really are the best theater food. The local cinemark is right next to pic related and they do all you can eat crabbers on wednesdays. Here's the thing tho, once they thaw the crabs they can't refreeze them so if its not particularly busy that night they end up throwing out a good amount of perfectly fine legs. Also, most of the idiots around here have no idea how to properly clean a crab so they end up throwing away half the meat too.
So what we do is hit up the dumpster around 4 am and see what kind of goodies we get. Then we usually come back to the theater and set up shop on the side. We resteam with a coleman portable stove and then use an old popcorn tub to sneak them in through the side door that we prop open. And no, we don't leave the scraps on the floor.

I always hear people say this movie is about "male and female sexuality," but it isn't very clearly about a sexually repressed man?
Every scene with his wife, Bill is shown as weak, a wimp. Either crying, or rolling his shoulders, or trembling at her words. The entire movie he keeps seeing the marine banging his wife. Every time he tries to retalliate, it goes wrong. Every plan he has falls apart. All chances for sexual release fail. While his wife is shown in full nudity all the time, Bill is never shown nude at all. I'd even go so far as saying his wife is somewhat mentally abusive. He's completely emasculated.
Nicole Kidman said that Kubrick told her that pedophiles rule the world.
It's about the illuminati you ass
its about fidelity iirc
i know netflix originals are mostly shit but a few of these episodes are pretty great

Welcome to (((current year)))
Was this movie meant to be an introspective look showing how the audience enjoys watching violence, killing, and dehumanisation of Germans through the lens of the Basterds, just as the Nazis are accused of doing to the Jews; or did Tarantino just want to make a mindless violent gorey revenge-porn about killing nazis?

Understanding this scene is the key to understanding the entire movie.
>"Watching Donnie beat Nazis to death is the closest we ever get to going to the movies."
In this moment, The Basterds see/hear the exact same thing as the audience, with the exception of the ridiculous fanfare. This entire sequence screams gory revenge porn fantasy, at least until a crucial moment when the Nazi officer states that he was awarded his medals for bravery, and not simply for the grossly oversimplified platitude of "killing jews." Just think about how the scene would play out if the roles were reversed. Evil Nazi with baseball bat points to medals and says "Did you get those for killing Nazis?" The Jewish soldier would reply "Bravery" and the audience would start to cry over how brave and heroic he is. Of course, this wouldn't really play out very well in today's political climate. Even if this is a gross oversimplification, I think the idea that history is written by the victor comes into play here. As long as you're on the winning side, it's okay to make these gory revenge fantasies, and this scene best embodies Tarantino's critique of this notion while simultaneously indulging himself with the aforementioned ridiculous fanfare.

Fuck off cunt, it's an important theme of a movie. Thousands of movies touch on history and/or politics, just because a movie's topic involves politics doesn't mean you can tell anyone who wants to discuss the movie to F off to /pol/
Work at FX and got some news for you guys.
1. American Crime Story is a franchise that is basically DOA. The Katrina season is pretty much dog shit, so much so that FX is delaying it until 2017 and going to run it and season three (Andrew Cunannan season) with a couple of month hiatus between the two and basically PRAYING the later (which is supposed to be decent) somehow manages to counteract the amount of fail of the Katrina season.
Either way, the "fourth" season is basically going to be it, the suits turn out to be wrong and seasons two doesn't kill the franchise.
2. FX is working to try and get a Shield revival going on; basically a tv movie/mini-series deal to pick up where the series left off ten years later. Problem is script; Ryan has one that he pitched for a "movie" sequel but FX hates it since it marginalizes the original characters.
Shawn Ryan and Kurt Sutter have since pitched an outline for a second script that is pretty fan-servicey: Vic is still with ICE, Antwon Mitchell as the big bad, Ronnie/Tina/Danny/Claudette/Dutch/Acaveda all having major roles in the plotline, and along with several flashback sequences so they can fit in Walt Goggins and Kenny Johnson having cameos in spite of their characters being killed off. FX liked this pitch/outline but work on a script hasn't started yet because they want to see who is willing to come back/work out a schedule so they can get everyone back.
3. FX is in negotiation to get the TV broadcast rights to Arrested Development S4 from Netflix. Netflix is interested in it because it would help them promote S5, but it won't be a straight-up re-airing.
The idea planned for it's network TV debut will be that they will re-edit the season in chronological order and include some deleted scenes, to boost viewership. IE a director's cut that will only air on FX.
4. FX is extremely high on Snowfall, so expect it to be heavily pushed by the network in promotional material and with advertising.

see you started out strong. the first and fourth points sound somewhat believable.
but the Shield thing is just abosolutely bonkers. cameos from Walton Goggins and Kenny Johnson for flashbacks?! How fucking high are you right now?
>shield revival
i dont believe you but whats the scoop on fargo? is it coming back or what?

Can we actually have a serious discussion about thisflick? Can we discuss its merits and pitfalls? I'll start with some pros and cons of the movie
Pros:
>Michael Keeton is great, best scenes in the movie are with him
>The villain makes sense and is well developed, for a capeshit film at least
>Tom Holland is alright
>I laughed a few times
Cons
>wtf is this alien shit from? no explanation is given at all
>bunch of highschool melodrama that I couldn't give less of a shit about
>asian r3dditor "LE CHAIR MAN XD" was cancer
>quips quips quips quips
>Why the fuck is Ironman in a Spiderman movie?
>SJW MJ looks like a man and the first love interest isurban
>shitty tropes like "omg he answered a question from the teacher w/o paying attention therefore he's super smaht XDD"
>suit looks like ass, doesn't look real at all
>cgi out the ass, did they not learn from the star wars prequels?
>no real sense of danger or tension
>massive step down from the earlier spiderman movies
Final verdict:
4/10 and that's being generous
There have been like 50 discussions on this movie this weekend. I don't watch capeshit anymore so I don't usually enter these threads but we really need generals for the MCU and DCEU

The alien stuff came from the first avengers movie you idiot.
