Is there a safe way to induce temporary paralysis from the waist down in a consenting subject?

The effect should ideally last for an hour or two, and she will be subjected to rhythmic motion from an external source.

It can, but they can't walk so you must carry them everywhere or use a wheelbarrow.

Also I hope you don't mind a lack of facial expressions, other than that, we'll practically there!

The nips are already doing that.

But oh boy, if that hologram thing costs 10k, imagine how would it cost to have a functional robot version of you're waifu.

probably about $200,000.

The walking bit is expensive. Save some money and keep her in a wheel chair. People will pity you for 2 reasons.....

well as Maynard Keynes said

Newton was not a rational man

"“Newton was not the first of the age of reason. He was the last of the magicians, the last of the Babylonians and Sumerians, the last great mind that looked out on the visible and intellectual world with the same eyes as those who began to build our intellectual inheritance rather less than 10,000 years ago.”"

A solenoid has a length of 40 cm, a radius of 2 cm, 300 turns, and carries a current of 3A. Find the self inductance of the solenoid. Answer in mH.

First I calculate the magnetic field, B. I have checked with a peer to confirm I have done that correctly. Then, I use B, to find the magnetic flux. From there...I'm lost. I've got an equation, ((turns/length)(flux))/(length) that should result in inductance but I just can't get the right answer, no matter how I play with or interpret the question.

I am also checking to make sure that I multiply my SI answer by 1000 to get mH.

>>
The current is irrelevant here. The self-inductance of a long solenoid is equal to [math]\mu_0 N^2 \pi r^2 l[/math], where N is the number of turns per unit length. Calculating with your provided values returns a self-inductance of 0.3553 mH. I can provide further assistance if needed.

Unrelated to inductance..(somewhat). Hopefully you can help.

I have a yes/no question asking if it is possible to calculate the speed of light using only (forgive me, but I do not know how to print these characters with a keyboard, so I will write them phonetically) mew-knot, or epsilon-knot.

I know the correct answer is Yes, but why?

This may sound uncreative, but my professor never went over light....our units never covered light. We covered electricity/magnetism only...We have worked on the properties of charged materials and particles only. It is lost upon me how I would use the two aforementioned universal constants to calculate the speed of light.
>>
>>8815554

This is a pretty complex question.

Light is described by Maxwell's Equations. If you solve these equations in the absence of any charge, one solution is a plane wave traveling at c. Epsilon-naught and mu-naught are important parts of the equations.

http://news.stanford.edu/pr/2015/pr-worms-digest-plastics-092915.html

Hey, so i found this and ive been wondering how are they able to digest styrofoam. I came up with a hypothesis, that the meal worms enzyme which normally would break up starch into simpler sugars has mutated and changed shape just enough to be able to break up polysterene aside from starch. Im not sure how the rest of the metabolism would go though.

Anyone care to help out?

>>
>>8814771
Did you not read the article you posted? It says right there that bacteria in the mealworm's gut digest the polystyrene
>>
>>8814785
well yeah, in the same way that a cow doesnt digest starch but the microbes in its gut do. The microbes still contain enzymes, and judging by the fact that polysterene doesnt naturally occur, and they would normaly be digesting starch, they probably mutated to digest both starch and polysterene.

If you look at molecular structure of starch chains and polysterene chains they are fairly similar.
>>
>>8814785
also im trying to figure out how the methabolic pathway would theoretically go. How would it convert polysterene into Atp to extract energy from it. Its not a sugar afterall so what would be the end product?

math is as much a fiction as any language. It emerges from human sensibilities and judgements and it cannot claim to respect any deeper notions than those sensibilities and judgements which birthed it.

>>
>>8813688
There are no 4 "fundamental" tastes that can be used to synthesize all other tastes. Even including umami, there are still other sensations that you can't synthesize such as metallicness or astringency. Also, other senses like vision, scent, and temperature play in role in how your brain tells you how food tastes

You also cannot synthesize all colors with 3 fundamental colors.

I went to a psychiatrist and they diagnosed me with moderate depression with psychosis. They had prescribed me Enlyte, which would seem to consist of folate and related compounds, and told me to take magnesium theronate. They told me to start taking it immediately. They had also ordered a blood test, including of folate levels and MTHFR (an enzyme involved in a pathway involving folate, apparently) mutations, although they did not order a test of magnesium levels, even though there was an option for that on the form. They would seem to be wanting me to be taking the magnesium theronate and Enlyte regardless of the blood test results. I looked it up, and it does seem that magnesium and folate deficiencies can indeed cause depression, but wouldn't it make the most sense to only get taking folate and magnesium if a blood test showed that I am deficient in them. Is my doctor a quack, or does it make sense to take them before/without the blood test results?

Mineral supplements are like vitamins. You have to take way over your %rda for it to be bad. Depression is complex and I would make sure you have a good routine for sleep and a good balanced diet. Don't drink or smoke or take drugs. And get a hobby that you find fun and interesting.
>>
>>8814082
That thing "Enlyte" that he wants be to take is very expensive though and likely not covered by my insurance. It would have an adverse effect upon my pocket book, so I would only want to be taking it if it would actually work. He wants me to be taking it before we get the blood test results back, which I would think would not make much sense, so I was asking /sci/ if it would make sense.
