Australia has large untapped reserves of lands that could be used for agriculture if we solve the water issue. Right now, we are using a small proportion of Australia's lands for growing stuff, because our continent experiences extremely variable rainfall. How can we make Australia the food bowl of Asia and solve the food/water security issue?
>>8958609
If we can unlock lands the size of France, Germany and Britain combined for farming , we could probably solve world hunger.
>>8958677
Pretty sure your government would just give all the food to the abbos.

In the next 50 years, we'd have cheap automated desalination plants with graphene membranes, that promises to cut energy usage by 99 percent. Coupled with hundreds of millions of Cheap perovskite solar panels, that would make energy practically free, and you could theoretically supplement rainfall with desalinated water and use the increase in productive agricultural lands to pay for the desalination plant. You could have hundreds of carbon neutral desalination plants dotted around the coasts of Australia, supplying water to inland farms. New generations of fertilisers would help too. Israel has shown that we can use desalination to green deserts, with even outdated desalination technologies. They grow their own food.
Advice me on a good camera or telescope under $800.
>>8968161
Haha! And you'd like my advice for free I bet? I'm afraid that's not the way it works pal.
>>8968161
>camera or telescope
you obviously don't even know what you want.
get the very cheapest shit out there. not because it'll work, but because you'll have a cheaper telescope gaining dust in your attic in 4 weeks.
worst case scenario: you actually do try it out several times and upgrade later
best case scenario: hundreds on bucks saved because you didn't invest in a hobby you obviously don't have any real interest in anyway.

that's very cynical point of view
Is this book worth reading?
I am slightly bellow average at math. I'm barely wrapping up derivatives in calculus, and finding the area under a curve.
Will this book help me as I go deeper into math? I enjoy math, but I am barely developing my mathematical mind, so I struggle.
>Is this book worth reading?
there's like 500 reviews on amazon, read some

>Will this book help me as I go deeper into math?
probably not, Oakley's an engineer not a mathematician
apptitude is genetic
however, doing more math will help you remember how teachers usually structure math problems and tackle them better
first is order of how you should solve something, second is foruma. third is just number fudging. and most people fall in the numbers part
>>8966649
I don't trust their reviews. I trust 4chan.
Can a math guy be good at engineering, but an engineer not be good at math? Is that possible?
>humanity will probably never build a Dyson Sphere/Swarm around our sun
feelsbadman
>>8961412
This is unfeasible (an unfeasible meme)
How we (or aliens) could even get enough material to build such Dyson Sphere/Swarm?
Trump can not even build a simple wall between USA and Mexico.
>>8961427
Yassss queen slayy
>>8961412
For a swarm we need to at least build 1 satellite colony to orbit the sun. Just that one thing will probably never happen.
My roommate studies CS and he claims that the purpose of humanity is to give birth to a superintelligence. He does not care what happens to human afterwards.
Is he right? Is he insane?
It's our duty to create something better than us.
yes he is right
yes he is insane
>>8953165
Tbh that is probably the most noble end humanity could have.
what would be the best major and post-grad route if I wanted to cure IBS, otherwise known as satan's syndrome?
Uhhhh immunology perhaps?
depends what you mean by "cure" op. if you want to make money, you could develop drugs. opiates "cure" ibs but this is a bullshit solution.
>>8967161
Get an undergrad in biology/biochemistry and talk to professors while doing that and see if they can point you in the right direction for graduate studies.
Looking through papers published about IBS, they all seem to be gastroenteroloy related and the authors tend to be in the faculty of medicine.
>problem set only with imperial units
>imperial units
why they even allow this
What's wrong with it?
That's never happened to me but if it did I would probably kill myself.
>>8967068
imperial units is FUCKING RETARDED
>ounces
>fluid-ounces
>yards
>cubic yards
>acre feet
wtf why not keep with logical SI trusted by a fuckton of researchers
Cop or not?
Cop, essentially young and freedman, but personally, I like the division of early material better in h/r
Cop

Is this book scientifically legit /sci/? (How To Win Friends and Influence People) I grew up very isolated and have poor social skills, I need something to help set me on the right track. I have literally 0 friends right now
>>8966239
Interesting.
I go through difficult math textbooks so there needs to be a reliable guide about having friends I can follow.
>>8966239
>Getting a fucking book for socializing
Thats exactly why you are a faggot, socializing its forged by sole practice, Chad doesnt read books on "socializing" he goes to parties.
>>8966251
I believe that after studying enough theory one should be able to trick people into thinking you're a sociable human being

Jet fuel can't melt steel beams.
>but
No. Jet fuel burns at 800° to 1500°F, not hot enough to melt steel (2750°F).
>>8965823
I never understood this argument. The terrorists didn't pour jet fuel on the twin towers, they crashed planes into them.
>>8965834
Nobody crashed anything into them. It was an inside job, meaning the planes came from within.
>Almost nothing is commutative or associative, so an operation won't have these properties unless there's a special reason for it to. So the question isn't why exponentiation isn't commutative or associative; it's why addition and multiplication are.
what did math mean by this?
>>8965802
>le nature of reality
>>8965802
Math is a concept, invented by humans, to very poorly represent the world and the events surrounding them.
>>8965861
Very poorly?

I am starting a /sci/ analysis study group. We will work through either baby rudin, papa rudin, or folland's measure theory text depending on the background level of whoever wants to do this with me. I am a math ph.d student with a masters degree in an analysis heavy field (pde/image processing) so I will be the de facto leader, i.e. I will schedule the skype meetings, readings, and exercises. We will probably meet once a week to discuss the assigned reading and exercises depending on how everyone feels. Skype is usually a good option for this in my experience from the /sci/ category theory study group. Ideally, we will not have more than say 8 people total, however people often drop out from this sort of thing so if we start with 8 we will almost certainly end with less. If you're interested, post here and send an email to [email protected]

>I will be the de facto leader
These threads get every day more amusing.
>>8965738
I am able to work through any of those texts independently, just thought it would be more effective to include some other people and discuss the material. I have worked through other analysis/measure theory texts at the graduate level. Are you butt blasted because you are a NEET?
>>8965743
why though? imo mathematics is a solitary field, at least until you get to post grad
until then textbooks and solution manuals (available for both baby and papa rudin) should be enough for any hopeful mathematician who is reasonably capable
Is bioweaponry a viable industry?
>>8965713
forbidden by the geneva convention, so no.
>>8965724
It's not enforced tho, literally "gentleman's agreement."
>>8965740
the great UNITED STATES OF AMERICA will rape your ass if you start selling bioweapons. It very much is enforced. And if you sell to the US, Russians will rape your ass, if you sell to the Palestinians, you gonna get Mossaded, if you sell to the Israelis, you gonna get Mossaded.
Besides, getting into bioweaponry is harder than it looks. The Aum Shinrikyo cult tried to make bioweapons for years. They eventually gave up and just made chemical weapons.
It's alleged the penis evolved a somewhat mushroom shape to aid in removing another man's semen from a vagina.
My question is how common would gangbangs have been throughout history for this to be the only remaining penis shape?

When did you realize you were too retarded to become a physicist?
when I almost failed a class using this book
i was thinking about going into mathematical physics but after that class I stuck with math
quantum mechanics in high school. seemed more about memorization than understanding.
>>8963744
so you are better at math?
