How real is the 4.0 SOHC timing chain meme?
Checking forums results in extremely mixed messages.
>4.0 remove motor anything after 100k grenades
And
>Original motor, third trans, 275k no timing problems
I understand people don't really go to forums to post how well things have held up so I'm unsure.
I've only come across one Craigslist advertisement regarding a timing problem with the 4.0, but it had iirc 230k.
A timing chain, to me, is just a maintenance item.
I can purchase a reman 4.0 from Ford for <4k, but that's more than the explorer is worth to me.
Just really like the third gen styling for some reason.
Came across an 02' 4.0 5 speed 4x4 for 2900 with 118k.
Checking it out Monday. Living in the rust belt I'm more concerned about rust than mechanical problems, but I'd like to be able to enjoy my new to me vehicle before it grenades.

not with this engine, enjoy pulling the whole engine out for this "maintenance"
also 3rd gens a shit get a second gen or a 4th gen
My dad has one of these shitters in the exact same color sitting in his yard because it has a bad transmission and they only made it for like a few months or some shit. He threatens to get it towed away but I want to fix it cause it has no rust

Mazda Prelude MX-2
America's sports car can be had for $19000
310 hp 320 lb/ft RWD LSD and a Manual 0 miles for under 20k, they are making room for the 2018 stock so now is a good time to get em.
Not to mention an extra $2000 cash back at almost every dealer if you buy new and warranty. I'm getting mine off the clearance shelf in a few weeks.
And you get a $600 ford pro cal on top of that and you get an extra 25hp peak and close to 100hp gains in the upper rpm from stock torque dips.
335 HP rwd new car for under 20k! Oy vey what a steal.
>>17158125
And the people wonder why nobody wants the GT86
>>17158162
>Paying $27,000 new for a N/A 200hp toyobaru
Toyota please, learn a thing or two from ford. It doesn't cost over $20,000 to make an 86
Is it only the ecoboost or can you get the noncucked v8 gt for under 20k? If not that's very suspicious to me
You may choose only one anon, choose wisely.
Ear dyno until it sounds about right.
>>17157774
Engine because its easier to fix shit up
Chassis dyno because what ends up at the wheels is what matters, only benchracers quote engine dyno numbers. Also you won't have to rip out the engine to go on the dyno.
Just found this rust hole in my Miata. How fucked am I? I looked inside and most of it is still clean bare metal. It's just this corner that's rusted to shit
Tfw rust hole so big I can fit vacuum inside it
Not fucked at all, get it cleaned up. Cut the rust out and cover that shit up.
>>17157718
The only reason it happened is because Mazda used a retarded design for the drain holes which exit on the pinch weld rails where the car is also used to get jacked up. So over the years, it accidentally gets pinched shit and then water builds up.
The entire inside of that corner is moist as fuck and there is a lot of rusted debris.
I guess I need to find a way dry it out, remove the debris, sand it down, and layer a bunch of por15 and shit on the inside. But I have no idea how to even start doing that.
literally all you need

>>17156822
The 996 just needs more crazy. Big wings, wide fenders, big splitter, vents everywhere, that kind of stuff.
The GT2 is the craziest 996 from the factory and (in my opinion) the best looking.

What the fuck is Ford?
why does ford call it ecoboost when boost eats through fuel?
is it to trick normans?
