The blood rushes. I fear to look backwards
At lines already writ, at thoughts already conquered.
All that matters is I write! Oh dear God,
Grace me with more verses, so that I know I'm not
The lowest of men. And that I am not the sort
That is worse than what I despise. Oh fuck.

How old is this "old man"?

I read this book as a teenager, and I liked it. I read it recently, and I loved it.

The ab-ject would thus be this intermediary position--neither subject nor object--for which the psychiatric term "borderline" would prove to be extremely useful. And, indeed, "borderline" came increasingly to function as a form of explanation for a condition understood as the inability of a child to separate itself from its mother, so that, caught up within a suffocating, clinging maternal lining, the mucous-membranous surround of bodily odors and substances, the child's losing battle for autonomy is performed as a kind of mimicry of the impassibility of the body's own frontier, with freedom coming only delusively as the convulsive, retching evacuation of one's own insides, and thus an abjection of oneself.

Literature's just, never seemed rewarding enough compared to the alternatives, even for finding higher aspirations like beauty, or novelty.

Did the Underground Man rape Liza, the prostitute? I'm not sure.

Also, what do you think was the meaning of the book? What I got from it was that Dostoevsky was dissing idealists who think enough scientific advancement and logic and reasoning will make the world a utopia because people will always act in their best interests which is not possible, because this assumes that people are always rational and do what is best for them, which we all know isn't true. He was also dissing "bookish" people, people obsessed with thinking about life, with no desire to actually do anything because they're scared of real life.

no.
also, to get a more comprehensive view of Dostoyevsky's Underground Man you have to read Crime and Punishment.
he definitely took some jabs at everyone, no one was safe from critique, but it was written as a satire. You'd much much better understand Notes after reading C&P
>>
I refuse to read any books about prostitutes. Or whore female protagonists. Was gonna read Notes From Underground but not too eager. I have it somewhere on my computer though. Must learn to not distance myself from a book if the characters don't morally align with my personal values. Ex: cheating. nononono

Lolita. I was 14 at the time and had just found the love of my life, but the relationship begun entirely with me taking advantage of her sexually. So the ending where Dolores ultimately rejected Humbert Humbert tore my heart into pieces.

This is reddit's view on Stirner

I think Max Stirner's meme presence comes with a hefty portion of irony and satirical posturing. Those who do sincerely subscribe to his views are probably of the kind of radical skepticism of "naive, arrogant, new atheist types."

So is it true that if you sincerely subscribe to Stirners view you're a naive, arrogant new atheist?

He was against "subscribing to views." So, I guess if you "subscribe to them," you misunderstand them, and so are probably a "naive, arrogant, new atheist."

They read like you're trying to write poems, by which I mean there's no real substance at the centre of them, just things written 'poetically' i.e. with a thesaurus and an air of 19th century.

There are multiple books I choose not to read in public. Marx and Nietzsche for instance. Because no one reads them and assume them from what they heard or read on Internet. Any philo book is actually weird. I feel perverted in some ways, yet I might be but I don't want people to know.

Popsci is a meme category though. Its all style over substance and relies on word of mouth rather than quality to proliferate.
