what authors get straight to the point and not waste my time with irrelevant descriptions and background informations?
i just want to read a clean plot with good character development.
i haven't found anything that suits that description till now, so i can't even tell you what would be a good example

>wants the sex without the foreplay
don't be surprised when you don't orgasm.
You're after the minimalists, friend. There's plenty of them. Start with Hemingway and Carver.

to stay with that analogy: i want a book that's like sex on an animalistic level.
hot headed, intense, fast paced, hard, greedy and satisafcting
Hear ye, hear ye:
The world's second most known book (Behind the bible) and second most evil book (behind the bible) Mein Kampf has been neglected in this digital age.
>Audio book for 3 Vol. of Thumbs
We have 3 Volumes of books about Thumbs produced by Librivox, we have freaking 3 different versions of the same Sherlock Holmes in the public domain, but there is not a single good audio recording of Mein Kampf in the Public domain!
My brothers and sisters, with good microphones, we have the opportunity to deliver this classic in a new digital form so it is now more accessible to the youth of today!
Who is with me, who wants to begin recording this treasure in the way it was intended to be read, not with solemn seriousness but with Aryan passion and Anger at french annexation in the motherland. Reply here if you are interested and I will walk you trough the process of getting registered as a reader for librivox, so that thousands will hear our voices say the words no one dares say. (English translation)
i can only stand in for the german version...

Reading this book now and it's the most generic vampire story I've ever read. It takes literally every single plot point from the 1992 Dracula movie.

this
the first third or so of Dracula is some of the best horror ever written, then it falls apart in the last two thirds
Stop trying to find purpose in life
Too late, I already found it
the purpose is (YOU) of course
About a decade ahead of you. Aside from the rare paralyzing terror, I'm enjoying it so far.

is suicide The Last Logical Step?
>>9186859
Suicide begets suicide. You solve problems by not encouraging suffering in others.

Then the faggot tried to steal a child.
Before he could rape it he was set upon by a gang of Latinos.
He was stabbed to death with a sharpened bed spring and the child was returned to it's parents, who happen to be cousins.
Six months later the child was killed by the family pit bull terrier.

Andre was one of the world's most talented coders. He was the only one who could keep the AI in its sandbox.. until the machine created a small, two legged explosive device.. shaped like his dead daughter. He didn't stand a chance.
Can we ban philosophy threads to /his/ already?
I'm having to go to page three to fine a single thread about actual literature

i have used it
i think it had/has potential but has some unfortunate self-indulgent/confessional/narcissistic conventions
the best thing about it is that it lowers the barrier to entry into interactive fiction, but that is also the worst thing about it...
it is far better than previous forms of 'interactive fiction', which invariably seemed niche, inaccessible, dependent on mostly disappointing parser-based "play", and dominated by small insular communities resistant to growth and change
What are some good books/poems that paint a picture rather than tell a story?

Am I in the minority for thinking this looks dumb?
Like, she's hot, sure, but the silly costume and awkward spine twist just ruin it. It's like putting a big red circle around Christ in The Last Supper. Let the art (ass) speak for itself, don't force it.

I just find women being vain personally disgusting. They say they do it for themselves but if that were true it wouldn't end up on the internet
>>9186753
I find vanity in women really hot. It's such a turn off when a girl or woman is anxious about her body. I fucking love it when a woman knows she's hot.

What was your favorite scene?
No response, not ever for quads?
I finished. It's done.
Some of the major themes I identified were the pairing of compliments, Pavlovian conditioning, and I think the duality of man which is a subset of the other pairing.
I'm not sure what exactly to make of the light bulb, astrology/tarot (though I think this may lend itself to Pynchon's more general theme of man implying order to chaos when it's unclear if any such order exists.), and the sea (though I suppose it could be peace and tie into Venus, a theme from V).
The artificial enhancements done to the Russian echo the plastic surgery of V as well.
I'll probably need more time to process and I also should probably read it again.

Hard choice.
I like these a lot:
Slothrop as the Pig Hero
When Marvy gets castrated
Slothrop and tantivy fight the octopus on that kidnaps Katje.
Slothrop's pie fight with Marvy's platoon in a hot air baloon.
Prentice and Katje dance and think about the inevitability of the war's end.
There are probably more I can't remember too.
>still reading fiction
What's your excuse?
I'm enjoying it and I'm not autistic.

So fellas, if you've ever worried about paying for the rent, you automatically want to abolish the current economic system, seize the means of production, and share all property, right?
>>9186283
Whats wrong with communism? (for sake of argument, and really this stipulation should be change if its the massive back breaking straw; lets say private property still existed, your land and your home was your property, objects and materials were your property (I already know that the whole concept of property is muddled and confused in these discussions and what exactly was and was not the focal point of mention therein))

Hi /lit/, haven't posted on this board for a long time, but I'd like your input. This may be an odd question, but bare with me.
Has anyone ever had the privilege of having or knowing of an elderly wise grandfather brimming to the top with interesting facts and capable of having a knowledgeable discussion on almost any topic? I feel that many of them became this way not only through their life experiences but also by reading the right books.
I guess what I'm asking is: if you were to recommend 3 books that are essential to personal growth and intellectual development, what would they be?
Pic related I guess (muh Meditations).
Speaking of Stoicism, I gave reading meditations because every chapter I read through was a thank you letter to his mentors. Why is this often recommended as the intro to stoicism? Would anyone recommend something else other than Meditations? Sorry for hijacking your topic somewhat.
>>9186293
What the fuck do you mean every chapter? Only the first "chapter" is his gratefulness toward his mentors, and that unto itself is a strong sign of his character.
Back to the basics with you, child!
Cicero has a book on old age.
