I used to be able to finish 500 page novels in a day when I was younger but now my brain struggles to understand the meaning of what I'm reading
I know what all the words mean and the words are all very familiar to me. However when I read them I get lost and struggle to make sense of the greater sentence/paragraph. The words all look familiar to me its just I can't piece them together without any backtracking like I used to, I used to read so fast and effortlessly but now I struggle so much
What is wrong with me?

It honestly feels like its permanent, however I think you're right when I used to take driving lessons I came back after 2 hours and had no brain fog at all, I could read quite well but then after an hour or so I went back to struggling to understand. What do I do then? Just stare at a wall? I'm currently in between jobs at the minute so I don't have much to do

A good ending is the product of a good story, it is not possible to just tack on. It is a catharsis, a release of dramatic tension that can last a paragraph or for 20 pages. This tension should have been built into the story using your writer's tools: themes, intertextuality, recurrence, metaphor, characterization, etc etc. You're an artist, write like one.
