I used to be able to finish 500 page novels in a day when I was younger but now my brain struggles to understand the meaning of what I'm reading
I know what all the words mean and the words are all very familiar to me. However when I read them I get lost and struggle to make sense of the greater sentence/paragraph. The words all look familiar to me its just I can't piece them together without any backtracking like I used to, I used to read so fast and effortlessly but now I struggle so much
What is wrong with me?
Low attention span, you waste too much time on the internet. I had the exact same problem until I took internet vacation. Only 2 hours of gaming/ surfing and smartphone access severely restricted, felt like I was on adderal after that (not so hard, but similiar)

This. Screen time rewires the brain. Good news is that it can be wired back to how it worked before.

It honestly feels like its permanent, however I think you're right when I used to take driving lessons I came back after 2 hours and had no brain fog at all, I could read quite well but then after an hour or so I went back to struggling to understand. What do I do then? Just stare at a wall? I'm currently in between jobs at the minute so I don't have much to do
Find an app that blocks your access to addictive internet websites such as YouTube and 4chan. Try only using the internet with purpose (when you genuinely want to know something) during a week and see the results for yourself. I spent 3 weeks without using the internet at all and felt great. Too bad yesterday I gave in to temptation and I'm back on /lit/. Fuck my life.
WHY DOES THE ELITE WANT TO DUMB US DOWN WITH CONSUMER ELECTRONICS AND PORN?

Control.

I don't think our addiction to the internet is a product of some elite group's intentions. It's just that companies have become a) way too good in producing entertainment; b) aware of the fact that attention is the number one commodity in the entertainment industry.
i jerk off to face sitting videos
You went from reading airport fiction to literature.

>What do I do then?
Health and diet can have a lot to do with attention span too. Staying hydrated helps as well.

this brain fog is the product of years of distraction. You will need to change your lifestyle, but at least you can revert it, which is extremely cool. See >>9273616 for steps.
I recommend the extension StayFocusd with maximum security and the text you have to type in. Also block your extension page so you can't just disable it.
This is a nice, cool video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZWI4_Oe-Qbs

took me a long time to realize this.

to accurately answer this we would really have to get to know you, your habits, and behaviours. There could be a variety of different factors. Age, stress, preoccupation, mental health development, or it could be something as simple as not reading as much as you use to and your a bit rusty or maybe the material your reading now is more in depth and you hadn't even realised.
