If you were to spend one month in a secluded cabin in the woods and bring only one book with you, which one would it be?
Something very long or difficult that would keep you busy through the whole time?
Or something enjoyable that you could reread an infinite amount of times without getting sick of it?
>>9276465
The Bible, I should re;read it.
I just got the chance to look at a copy of Bottom's Dream by Arno Schmidt. I have been fantasizing about this scenario ever since.
>>9276465
The Holy Bible, KJV

What is Cormac McCarthy's best book?
Go Set A Watchman
>the horizon was very red, a blood meridian if you will. The kid drank a coffee and spat it out into a tortilla and got on his horse and got off his horse again.
McCarthy you fucking hack.

Foucault's Pendulum is far more interesting and has more reread potential than NotR. Also, I worked for a vanity publisher, so it is special in my heart.
My novel's about 1500 pages right now. This is after some extensive cuts.
Wat do?
>>9276330
Kys
Make it a trilogy, duh...
>>9276330
Keep cutting but save everything so you can release an extended version later.
For the time you try to learn a new language(as long as you're not a monolingual fag) you could learn/understand/do something better.
>>9276321
t. monolingual brainlet
>>9276321
Other languages for example.
>>9276323
I said as long as you're not a monolingual which means you should have learned a new language when you was 10yo.
If your looking for something new to read I have just published my first book, its a modern fantasy adventure that I've been told is a nice easy read (obviously i'm biased so I got a second opinion). Swords, monsters, magic and just a dusting of the obligatory romance. Its free for the next 5 days on the kindle store to try and get some publicity, so if anyone wants a nice way to kill a few hours that literally wont cost you anything then feel free to check my book out. Thanks again

Congrats, anon !~~
I'll take a look. Though, I wouldn't concentrate advertising on 4chan. Try Reddit (unironically) and some less notorious forums.
Congrats on the first book! I am a little off-put by your writing style but it seems interesting enough that I will keep going.

How much people have read it so far anon?
Congrats on finishing a book by the way, thats really something. Ill check it out.

What's so special about this guy, /lit/? Is he a charlatan or a great philosopher? I haven't read Being and Time yet, but some of his other works, and I gained nothing, or few things.
>>9276318
You cannot fully understand Heidegger if you are unfamiliar with the German philosophical tradition, its language and vocabulary.
Just get a good introductory book.
>>9276318
You should not read Heidegger, you should study him.
His lamguage may seem obscurantist at a first sight, but it's not: every word is chones carefully to escape post-Descartes prejudices (which has always been a pretty big part of his philosophy).
>>9276339
I don't want to study him. I want to study Hegel.
What's some good Star Wars /lit/?
Don't care if it's non-canon or whatever, just looking for a good story.
I'm particularly interested in original characters in that universe, as long as they are well written. However, feel free to recommend anything that you've enjoyed.
>>9276096
I found Bounty Hunter Wars to be entertaining..
Boba Fett climbs out of the Sarlacc Pit, armor nearly disintegrated, and goes on to fuck ass.
The Thrawn trilogy also features Mara Jade, a force sensitive drone of the Empire who becomes Lukes wife after he beats her good and tag teams her with his clone, Luuke, like a woman deserves.
>>9276165
I've always been quite interested in Boba Fett, I'll make sure to take a look at that.
>>9276096
>What's some good Star Wars /lit/?
>just looking for a good story.
>Star Wars
>good story
ayyy
there are too many words in the english language and I feel like I don't know the meaning of any of them
The abundance of words is why I prefer to write in English rather than my native language. It's so much easier to express what I truly mean.
>>9276186
imagine how french must be then
>>9276186
How do you even memorize new words? I feel like I've reached a point where I'm not learning any new ones, despite the fact that I keep practicing every day. It's so frustrating. I'm stuck with this incredibly limited vocabulary and can't write anything worthwhile in English.
Does this ever get good?
I'm 200 pages in and feel like I'm reading the same shit over and over again.
If you don't like it now then you never will.
>>9276154
What about after I'm dead in 20 years?
>>9276152
No.
It's a total snorefest that you have nothing to learn from, or anything interesting to think about. Reading 1984 is like being spoon fed porridge.

i'm reading it right now and most of the time i don't know what the fuck Pynchon is talking about, i had an easier time with Ulysses
Ezra Pound claims that any serious reader and/or writer of literature must be fluent in French, Italian, Latin, and have a grasp of Chinese, if English is their native tongue.
He claims that anyone unwilling to do this does not deserve and will not get anything out of literature. You will remain ignorant to the weight of timeless literature.
"You cannot learn to write by reading English," he says.
That's nice, EP. I think I just heard Tom, he said his enema is done.
