I'm trying to graduate high school through a program called Virtual School, I do my homework online and take tests at location. My last class is called English IV, and the final essay I've been assigned has asked me to provide examples of Protestant influence on 'modern' American culture. Could some kind soul please help find some sources? I think I needed two book sources and two online resources. I'll do the essay but I'm completely lost atm.

Also the early Protestants, specifically the ones derived from Reformed theology or influenced by it, were initially opposed to proselytization/evangelization in contrast to Catholic missionaries in the Americas, Asia, and elsewhere (e.g. the Portuguese vs. the Dutch in Japan). They were concerned with a genuine conversion of faith as opposed to just nominally being joined to the church.

Why were the Russians so insane and set their own capital on fire?
What made this people so crazy?
6 posts and 1 images submitted.

Part of it was religious fervor. Many people in Russia viewed Napoleon as the literal antichrist.
>>
>>2912923
They did this so the French army would have no proper shelter for the incoming winter. It was actually a few ex-convicts who were promised freedom if they did this that lit the city on fire. The Russian population had evacuated long before the French arrived.

They were basically the whole merchant class, held many major offices, and they reconquered about half of greece a few times while the ottomans were bogged down in wars.

The maniots raided even into central greece.
By the end of the ottoman empire Greeks were disproportionately wealthy along with jews and armenians. They could actually afford to pay jizya which is why they retained their religions.

I'm going out on a limb here (well not really), but put the blame of Islamic terrorism after 1999 square at the feet of Ronald Regan.

They were so much about "evil gommunists" that they gave stinger missiles to Islamic fighters who ended up turning into the Taliban and Al Queda which lead to 9/11.

Yeah the Soviet Union was bad, but if they won in Afghanistan than 9/11 would have never happened and if they were still around then they'd still be burning down mosques and forcing people into state atheism.

But Regan and crew saw Muslims as religious brothers when in fact they are our real enemies, not the communists.

Also, he fucked up by backing Iraq's invasion of Iran which lead to Saddam having debts which he used as a pretext to invade Kuwait (yeah it was after his time), but that directly lead to 9/11 as Osama Bin Laden was austic screeching with the yet to be invented spinner about holy Muslim clay in Saudia Arabia.

Really. Had we not fucked in the Middle east in the 1980's we'd be better off now.

Well at least Britain wouldn't be getting shitted on.

Was the Ming Dynasty successful or a failure? The opinions I'm reading all seem to conflict. Half the sources claim it was stagnant, isolated, and intellectually backwards, and ruined China's chance to industrialize ahead of the West. The other half claim it was a period of great economic growth, traded heavily with Europe and Japan, and were happy to import European weapons. And that it was actually the Qing who killed it by persecuting scholars, cutting off trade, restoring serfdom which damaged the economy, and failing to keep the military modern.

>Half the sources claim it was stagnant
Possibly
>isolated
Nope.jpg. Meme anti-piracy sea-bans aside, you had shitloads of contact with foreigners. Most notably Western Europeans, whose Jesuits were crawling all over the Ming court hoping it would make Catholicism sweet for the Chinese.
>and intellectually backwards
Subjective. You had scientific exchange with foreigners. You also had Neo-Confucianism. But there were also radicals and traditionalists though, considering the fact that Jesuits were in court until the Ming fell, it wasn't as rabid as the Qing.

>The other half claim it was a period of great economic growth,
Earlier. But then they had trouble with inflation near the end.
>traded heavily with Europe and Japan,
Yes. Mostly Spain, Portugal, and the Dutch.
>and were happy to import European weapons.
Even better: after importing some, they made them themselves. They had European gunners among the Jesuits who in turn taught Chinese artillery manufacturers. Again, hoping to sweeten missionary activity in China.
>>
>>2911554
Also the Ming dynasty had no flag. Seriously, who the fuck makes these things?
>>
>>2911585
>Possibly
Stagnant in what sense then?

>Nope.jpg. Meme anti-piracy sea-bans aside
So the idea that they burned their ships because they were afraid of globalism is just a meme then?

>whose Jesuits were crawling all over the Ming court hoping it would make Catholicism sweet for the Chinese
Were they making any headway before the Qing?

>Even better: after importing some, they made them themselves. They had European gunners among the Jesuits who in turn taught Chinese artillery manufacturers.
So they were at least on parity with the West at this point then

if it's not a spook then that would presume that there is a logical reason for you to be moral. how ever you hypothetically make morality objective would inherently answer your question

Psychology/Philosophy thread here

At what point in life did you actually start to see the underlying principles of the world? How humans act, how we think, how the systems(general understanding of the nature of how living beings, mechanical, chemical structures, universal properties, conceptual structures) of all types work, etc? At what point did you stop caring about petty chats regarding celebrities, music, movies, frivolous gadgets, romances, etc?

I didn't because these belong to systems of their own.
