Why and how long have europoors and amerimutts build dwellings out of matchsticks?

Massive abundance of wood. For the matter Americans still create houses mostly out of wood.
>>
>>3264016

We still have plenty of wood in North Europe. Traditionally you build a house, after a few generations it will go bad and a new will be built nearby. The old house is left rot.

Is war &humanities?

I've been wondering for a while, without being able to find a satisfactory answer...In the past generals would basically lead armies directly, standing on a hill or something, looking at the action from up close and giving orders accordingly. But ever since the line-infantry era ended, and instant long-distance communication became even remotely feasible, combat fronts have been getting wider, and the command chain has been moving further back, which got me wondering what even are the duties and responsibilities of generals in modern war.

Like, we all know what games like Total War or Company of Heroes are like, very much about tactics, close quarter combat and moment to moment action, but obviously, since generals are kilometers or even on the other side of the globe during most modern battles, they probably don't get a lot of say on how the battle is fought...So who does? Who in modern war needs to be a tactician? What kind of tasks are given to modern generals, and what is expected of them?

>which got me wondering what even are the duties and responsibilities of generals in modern war.
These days? Mostly organizational. A general can have tens or even hundreds of thousands of people under his or her command, and making sure everything is where it needs to be to run smoothly is a fairly colossal task.

>Who in modern war needs to be a tactician?
Mostly the more junior officers, the ones actually there in the field, the lieutenants and captains and majors of the world.

So generals are all about logistics nowadays, and tactics are still done by people on the field?
What kind of instructions do soldiers receive before being sent out on a mission?
>>
>>3263692

>What kind of instructions do soldiers receive before being sent out on a mission?
I'm going to answer this part first, because the second part gets a bit ranty. And there's no one answer. The number of roles on a modern battlefield that a soldier could conceivably fulfill is colossal, and that's just with an American style doctrine; other militiaries run things differently. But at least for the U.S., it's usually what the overall mission parameters ar, and considerable initiative is exercised by non-coms.

>So generals are all about logistics nowadays, and tactics are still done by people on the field?
I did not say that. In fact, to say that, you must have spent far too much time on shitty internet sites dealing with other fucknuggets who don't know anything; other than of course that they can win arguments by shouting LOGISTICS loudly.

Most modern generals do not concern themselves hugely with day to day logistical details, they have staffs for that. And this is obvious, if you knew what logistics was. Surprisingly few people do, for all the fact that it's a simple concept. Militaries require enormous amounts of food, fuel, spare parts, tools, ammo, etc. in order to function properly. Making sure all that crap ends up where your soldiers need it is logistics. Nothing more, nothing less.

Not to minimize its importance, but there's a hell of a lot more than that that generals need to concern themselves with. They need to manage information dissemination, they need to oversee training, and that takes up a lot of time and expense. They need to review performance of units in the field, attempt to identify mistakes or other doctrinal weak points. They need to keep abreast of intelligence developments. They need to keep coordinated with civilian departments and other military departments that their own commands intersect with. NONE OF THESE THINGS ARE LOGISTICS.

What's the origin of hell? Do all cultures believe on a form of it?

For what I can grasp abrahamic hell may br influenced by the zoroastrian one. No idea about hell in dharmic religions if it is an independant creation.

Did it develop just as a tool for controling dumb people with no other use? I always founded the notion of retribution after death as a childish notion. I mean what's even the point of it when everybody is equally consumed after death?

The 30 Years War
>>
>>3263286

It's very difficult for people not to moralize things. Even if you reject the concept that one nation is superior to another in war, you'll still end up looking for somebody to blame. So you'll end up blaming the upper classes of both nations, and look at the soldiers in the field as being disenfranchised victims of their machinations. This is still moralizing the conflict, just in a different way.

What was crime like America between the first native contact and the 21st century? I'm mostly curious about 1700s, 1800s, and 1900s but earlier stuff is cool too

Same crimes as always, just undocumented. Rape, murder, theft, arson, it all existed back then too.

How significantly would WW2 have changed if the Soviets defeat the Finns in 1939?

Soviet peoples republic of binland, colonized by Russians and many Finns deported to Siberia.
>>
>>3263169
Not a whole lot. You could have seen the evacuation of the Baltic Fleet out of Leningrad to some port in occupied Finland, you probably would have slightly lesser ability of the Germans to do submarine operations in the Arctic, and you'd have another port (Petasmo) to bring down Lend-Lease over the arctic route; but I have no idea how much that would help, as I'm not sure how good the roads and rail system up there is, I'm guessing not great.

This is of course assuming a total defeat and occupation of the Finns, since by most conventional measures the Soviets did win the 1939 war, albeit at Pyrrhic cost.If it's some level of victory in between what they historically achieved and total obliteration of the Finnish state, you'd have to specify further, but overall ,the Finns didn't do *that* much in the 1941-1945 slugfest.
>>
You mean an annexation?
Those 500,000 Finnish soldiers were pretty important for Army Group North especially for operations around Leningrad.

>then sent to "children's ministry" where we were given dumbed down bible stories

I go to my mum's church on Mothers Day every year and it's pretty much exactly this.
>can't tell if they're covers or knockoffs of Hillsong songs because they all sound exactly the same but the band plays before and after the service
>everyone jumps and reaches their hands to them
>band also plays quietly behind the pastor when he's saying something uplifting or inspiring.
>They barely read the bible or talk of it, it's mostly the pastor or speaker asking the audience to relate something in their life to God's influence or to praise him
>these often play out like amateur stand-up

>people muttering "Amen" constantly
It's definitely odd. My uncle is a Baptist and his church only let the women start wearing coloured clothing a couple years ago.

What is the difference between Leninism and Stalinism? How would the USSR have been different if Lenin stayed in power for decades longer?
7 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
Really I think Stalin was probably a more effective ruler than Lenin and Totsky would've been.

They were a bit too idealistic and too "ends justify the means." Lenin would probably end up another Mao, creating a bunch of unrealistic policies and killing millions in the process for little to no economic gain. Stalin was probably worse than Hitler in terms of morality but he didn't care about lofty ideas he stabilized his government and forced rapid industrialization (killing millions in the process) turning it to a superpower.

jews are like the weird nerd from highschool that was always teacher's pet, awkward, and eventually becomes bill gates. most people in the same class as them go "oh neat" some people however live in disbelief, even angry, at the thought of the person they picked on for years made something of themselves.

Superstition and racism
>>
Other than the obvious answer of racism, it has to do with how people perceive modern Jews as being a major controlling portion of the media and the political body. This leads to conspiracy theories, that can be seen as a parallel to certain Zionist ideas. This can idea of a group of people grabbing power and control can also be aligned with how Jewish people were historically displaced often by more powerful peoples, and it would make sense for them to want to take back what was their's and even take what is others.

So basically just superstition
