Let the count deal with it. Or begin a war of attrition by limiting the amount of local food the invaders can live off and retreating to a series of castles and forts. A functional steppe army requires more calories to thrive because they must not only ensure that the men eat, but that their many horses do too. If the defenders all tighten their belts and endure some hunger, the horseniggers suffer tenfold. At some point, they will have to begin slaughtering horses for food thus eliminating their advantage in mobility and open warfare. Also, get local partisans to harass whatever supplies they receive.
>>
>>3271032
That just means some die the first time, they test all future wells with one of their slaves/your peasants, and stick to rivers and streams in the future.

Plus, you know, earning you their eternal hatred.

Th "original arabs" are from Arabia. Currently, "Arab"'refers to all populations that speak a form of Arabic which is pretty much all of MENA. Even in thes countries however, you have minority populations who reject the Arab identity such as Coptics in Egypt.

La France is ready
Guns aimed, hearts are heavy
With Austrians at the border already, Max is steady
He's nervous, but on the surface he looks sly and ready to list names,
but he couldn't find the courage
To call them out
Convention's ruined clout
He opens his mouth but the crowd shouts him down
He's blown it now
Blood of Danton chokes him now
The guards are out
His rule's over blam!

Is it possible for a leader to be democratically elected by a means other than votes?
27 posts and 3 images submitted.
>>
>>3270157

The athenians in their democracy had sortition instead of elections. What that meant is that citizens could get selected by lottery to serve on a council for a short amount of time, instead of elections. And in addition to sortition, the citizenry had the vote on anything the councils/leaders proposed. So the athenian democracy was a combination lottery and direct democracy.

The reason for why there were no elections, was that the rich and powerful would always dominate elections and thus elected democracies are not democracies at all, but are rather aristocracies. American founding fathers BTFO because its obvious now the greeks were right.
>>
>>3270157
Wait, are you implying that it is possible for a leader to be democratically elected by votes?
I thought that was just a fairy tail because elected officials are always just talking heads while the real rulers continue to rule regardless of the actor in the president chair

Who's heard the new one?

I think Dan admitted on Twitter that it was pretty weak, and he just wanted to get it out of the way. I think the problem is that he didn't have enough sources to work with, to approach the material from the different angles he normally tries to go for. Just the Commentaries. That said, how the fuck did the podcast take six months when he's only working with a 300-page book?

In summary - the comparisons between Gauls and the struggles for independence of other tribal peoples is kind of interesting, but he doesn't go into depth and it basically falls flat. There's not much of a drilldown on Caesar, his ruling style or his military tactics either. The closing description of the Siege of Alesia is fairly decent, though.

What was the most effectively ingrained government propaganda into a society in modern history, the cold war seems to have spawned all sorts of politically illiterate Americans where even the slightest mention of socialism gets them put off, the closest thing to lasting propaganda effects I can think of is South korea's government anti-birth initiative that ended up declining the birth rate too much and still has repercussions today

"Irish were not considered white"
A surprising majority of people believe this even though it's easily refutable.
>>
>>3269252
Maybe, but the whole white race thing is an anglo meme in general, Slavs for example were definitely not seen as white by the self-proclaimed white nationalists, yet a look at /pol/ today would tell you otherwise, I think the whole concept of white is just flexible to include whatever people you need to align with your cause.
Race is mostly a social construct, biological differences aren't though
>>
>>3269252

It would be if there was socially standard definition of what it means to be "white".

Logos vs 'the word'
Is translating logos as "the word" the worst crime in bible translations ever? Seems to be dumbing dumb the populence and the message too.
It should read
>In the beginning was the Logos, and the Logos was with God, and the Logos was God.
>He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made.
>In him was life, and that life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not overcome it.
It gives a much deeper thought and meaning to the text then
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not overcome it.[37]

It doesn't mean "word".
>Despite the conventional translation as "word", it is not used for a word in the grammatical sense; instead, the term lexis (λέξις) was used.
>Greek word meaning "ground", "plea", "opinion", "expectation", "word", "speech", "account", "reason", "proportion", "discourse",
>but it became a technical term in philosophy beginning with Heraclitus (c. 535–475 BC) who used the term for a principle of order and knowledge.
^thats the important part. It doesn't mean word in this context, it had been used for more for over 500 years before it was written in the gospel.
>Logos is the logic behind an argument. Logos tries to persuade an audience using logical arguments and supportive evidence.
>Logos is a persuasive technique often used in writing and rhetoric.
>Ancient Greek philosophers used the term in different ways. The sophists used the term to mean discourse, and Aristotle applied the term to refer to "reasoned discourse"or "the argument" in the field of rhetoric.
>The Stoic philosophers identified the term with the divine animating principle pervading the Universe.
>Under Hellenistic Judaism, Philo (c. 20 BC – 50 AD) adopted the term into Jewish philosophy.
> The Gospel of John identifies the Logos, through which all things are made, as divine (theos),
>and further identifies Jesus Christ as the incarnate Logos
Now apologe for being so wrong and get back to the question.
Also what other translation problems do you know about in the Bible?

>>
>>3268498
Well, classic socialist sounds better, since they were created after Marxism. But either way, that's wrong. They were not socialist, at all. Even from the beginning they were far-right populists, who co-opted certain terminology and talking points from socialist and worker movements to appeal to the working classes and nationalistic social democrats.
