What do you think how much percent do we know today about how the world functions, what it consists of, what we are etc.?

You should ask this on /sci/. Around 10%, the rest is so called Dark Matter, which is non-barionic, this can't be seen, but interacts somehow with the "visible" world through gravity.
For instance, there is a way to detect supermassive rings of cosmological strings when the light passes through them by how they curve the light.

Why is it taboo to deny or minimise hitler's crimes but not stalin's?

>b-but hitler picked on people in the basis of race!!

Stalin picked on people for their race, specifically the Volga Germans, Crimean Tatars, Chechens, Cossacks. He deported them en masse to die in labour camps because of their ethnicity.

Is Alevi am the most peaceful sect of Islam ever, or is it it's own religion?

Are they Christians in denial?
15 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
>>2535017
The most peaceful sect of Muslims are probably Ibadis, mainly because they are isolationist and quietist. I am tempted to say Ahmadi, but they are heterodox enough in the essentials, that I do not consider them as within the fold of Islam. Alawi are even worse, but it's hard to say how much worse, because I and just about everyone else have no idea what they believe.
>>
>>2535037
Alawi are not the same as Alevi though. From what I've read the Alawi are Syrian and separate from the Alevi who are generally Turkish. Only the name is similar afaik

Met lost of them in Germany and Canada, the Alevi I mean

>>2535037
all i know is that alawi believe that ali was a god in human form and they hold congregations at night in secretive way where, adopted from christianity, they drink the wine which is transubstantiated into the blood of ali

Pretty much. It was pretty humiliating, it could not have ended worse. They sacrificed everything to "win" world war 2. If they hadn't gone autistic for poland's sake, they would have still had their empire.

Southern Baptist here. I understand how based Catholics have been in the past, but can you guys explain to me why a guy who supports gay marriage should be considered the mouth of God?

I mean, I'm not saying I'm against gay marriage. I have gay friends, I'd just prefer civil unions honestly. I'm just wondering why we're suddenly acting like these are consistent with God's word. It's fine to be a Christian and not want to stone gays, just disagree with their lifestyle, y'know?

Oh boy, it's yet another thread where we have to explain the specific circumstances where the pope is infallible.
>>
>>2534885
I didn't mean it like that. I just meant how does Catholic doctrine justify this. I'm not trying to be offensive or anything, believe me, Catholics are seriously fucking based. Just look at the degeneracy that has seeped into our own movements- Episcopalians, Lutherans, it's all fucking retarded. We need unity among Christians if anything.

I just want to know how a traditionalist, anti-gay marriage, anti-abortion Catholic would view the Pope today. Like how would you get me to convert to Catholicism, essentially.

My mom has pissed me off so many times about this issue, and I hope we never get into another discussion about him again! I have always known his eyes were BLUE since I researched him at age 11 in our World Books after my mom told me they were brown. But no matter how many times I have set her and others straight about this fact, they always want to conveniently forget. Why can't anyone accept the fact that his eyes were SO BLUE, this being such an integral part of his identity, that the "I" in his name might as well be dotted with a blue eyeball?

Can we have an actual argument about the true inheritors of the Roman Empire.

I'll start us off with the general knowledge and background.
>285 CE the Roman Empire split.
>emperor Maximian names Mediolanum new Roman Capital in 286.
>Diocletian made Nicomedia eastern capital city of the Roman Empire in 286.
>330: Constantinople is named new ERE capital and in controversy is considered new-Rome.
>402: Ravenna is New Capital for WRE.
>410: Rome is sacked.
>476 Ravenna is now Capital of Ostrogoths.
>476: "Rome Falls"
>Julius Nepos dies in 480, last western roman emperor.
>800: Charlemagne is Crowned by Pontifex Maximus Leo III.
>815-962: See articles of successors to king of Italy and inheritance of Charlemagne to Roman Emperor.
>962: Otto I (The Great) of Germany Crowned Holy Roman Emperor by Pope John XII.
>Constantinople remains capital until fall of Byzantine empire in 1453.
>Mehmed II of the Ottoman Empire is named Qayser-i Rûm by the Eastern Orthodox patriarch.
>Mehmed II is last sultan to claim name of Caesar.
>1502: Andreas Palaiologos dies ending the line of Byzantine Emperors. He sells his rights of Emperor to Charles VIII of France.
>1530: Charles V is last Holy Roman Emperor to be Crowned by a Pope.
>1806: Francis II, Holy Roman Emperor Abdicates to French Emperor Napoleon I.

ok... that's a lot to consider. And I didn't even touch base on the Russian right to the empire.

But to shorten the discussion a bit and keep just, lets talk about the act of splitting the Empire for start?
Once Rome fell in 476 did Constantinople(a city declared new Rome far before Rome's fall) now have the automatic seat and title of the Roman Empire?
Or did the Church have right to deliver the title to one Charlemagne in 800?

Also did Mehmed II have actual claim to be "Caesar"??
Did Andreas Palaiologos have the right to sell his title or did he even have that title to begin with?

Personally I think the Byzantines become true Rome after Rome fell in 410.

The Byzantine Empire WAS Rome, dipshit. The name "Byzantine" wasn't even a thing until many many years after its fall. When it was still in existence, everyone just called it what it was: Rome.

Who gives a shit. Western Roman Empire fell 400 ad, eastern Roman Empire fell 1500 ad.

There were no successors. Shut up and get over it, not every empire needs a successor.

Do you consider yourself a prole? A simpleton? A pleb? Just another one of the hoi polloi?

Maybe you accept that on an exterior level you are just another member of the faceless masses, but is there something that makes you different? Something that would make those in power see you differently? What is that thing?

And when have the common men and women of history stood up against TPTB successfully (on a large scale)? When will it happen again?

Let's talk philosophy.

I'm studying the problem of evil in philosophy of religion right now. It's some pretty interesting shit to think of how well thought out christian science is.

>he's a moral realist

Evil is things I don't like, and can convince other people also not to like. Developing personal ethics is simply thinking deeply about things I don't like and trying to come up with a non-contradictory system to categorize things I don't like and make sure I actually don't like the things I don't like.

rationality is safe space of coherence created by normies once they whine that what they call reality is not enough coherent to them.
Math is the step beyond the one done by normies with their little legal rules, justifying them from what they experience, by some rationality, common sense, necessity and other spooks like progress (and whine when they see that most people do not care about their little rules even if the first people manage to enforce them)
Then they get butthurt when some guy not spooked about all these spooks recall them that all these people is projecting lots of feelings and fantasies or just create other spooky formal languages after the same intention.
Of course, these normies create an idea of ''accuracy of my formal language with what I experience'' because deep down people know that their little inferences are just the result of their imagination, so they crave some spook called ''non-human objective third party '' which would make everybody agree on anything while shitting on empiricism, because ''my senses dupe me since the straw bends in water, but not in the air, thank ???? for giving the faculty of reason I can totally see the real reality now''.

how to avoid cognitive dissonance? is it even possible?
9 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>

Neck yourself
>>
Yes. Accept that you cannot objectively determine the truth.

Cognitive Dissonance arises when you have a conflict between incongruent ideas that your mind is trying to sort and categorize as true and untrue but unable to make accurate and reassuring determinations.

Instead accept that this may be true, or that, or some other idea completely unaware to you. Of you are not forcing your simple mind to convince itself that it can or has indeed found the truth, you will have Cognitive Brilliance.

Then you will see the universe as it truly is. Vast, incomprehensible with multitudes of truth completely unobtainable to the all singing, all dancing dirty myopic apes that we are.

Enjoy your life. Have a chocolate chip cookie, pet a warm puppy dog, and make love to a beautiful woman in the red glowing rays of the setting sun. Accept that you will only be able to see the smallest fraction of reality imaginable, and you will only ever glimpse the smallest fraction of possible truths.

Stop wondering about what life is and being upset with your lack of answers. Just live life. Your cosmically insignificant and comically tragic story will soon be over. Strike your words like fire in the air, write your name in the relentless waves of time. Do not sit idle in the cave with your shadows. Go outside. Breath, eat, explore, fuck, love, hate, dream. Curse the fates and damn the torpedoes. Take the fore from the Gods while you still can. Do anything but sit around wasting your life worrying about cognitive dissonance.
