I was rereading the Gail Simone's run you dumped before and i got to confess: other than The Circle i didn't like much her stories. I also disliked a bit her take on Wonder Woman. Her Wonder Woman came off a bit too righteous and conceited. Like if only her ways and decisions were the best.

I have not, but I think I should check it out since I was discussing it a bit in another thread today.

I've read a summary of it and it seems incredibly bizarre. I imagine a modern Wondie show would be a bit more faithful because of the success of the Flash.

I did liked that she injected more humor into Wonder Woman, something sorely lacking in Rucka's Wonder Woman. I also doesn't completely like Rucka's run. I found his Wonder Woman too... pragmatic for my taste.

Speaking of Earth One, something I've noticed in many reviews is criticism of the Amazons' reaction to Etta's (or rather Beth Candy's) obesity, calling it "body shaming", which I suppose it literally is, but I think it would be natural for Amazons to react that way, though I don't like the rather hostile nature of Morrison's Amazons.

>I imagine a modern Wondie show would be a bit more faithful because of the success of the Flash.
Yeah, just like how the upcoming movie is totally faithful.

And frankly, "bizarre" doesn't do it justice. For one thing, Veronica Cale is British. Yeah.

It's a bit of an uncomfortable truth to many that obesity IS unhealthy and a literal deformity, and was rare in the ancient world.

Especially Morrison's Amazons are fixated on perfection and utopia, and that includes their bodies. Every single Amazon is trained in martial combat and spends most of their time physically active. It would not make any sense for them to be familiar with obesity.

What I admire about Etta is that she IS obese, but she simply doesn't care. She loves her body and she's an incredibly happy and confident person. That is what body positivity should be about-- being happy, not about accepting and enabling.

Look, I understand the plot needs a newspaper person to move forward, but it's still a little annoying they brought in a Superman character.

Hell, it's stretching a little, but this could easily have been Mindi Mayer. Just make up some shit about how she had to be a hardass to prove herself to explain why a woman is running a newspaper in the 40s.

Perez laughed at death again:

https://www.bleedingcool.com/2017/05/01/update-george-perez-regarding-health/
>I called the front desk and they called for an ambulance. I also phoned my longtime friend and art agent Spencer Beck, who contacted my wife Carol, who was visiting friends in England. He figured correctly that news of my affliction and possible speculations could fill the social networks, and didn’t want Carol to find out that way. At first it was speculated that I may have had blood clots that may have reached my heart or lungs, but a second EKG determined that I had indeed suffered a heart attack with some rather severe blockage in some of the vessels.

>As of this writing, I have already undergone one operation to place a stent to clear the blockage on the right side of my heart and am scheduled to have the left side taken care of today. So far, recovery has been going well and life should be relatively normal after that, although I may have to pull back on the non-stop sketching-marathons that people have come to expect from me at conventions. There may even be a few cancelations, depending on medical advice.

Something Morrison said that I liked:

>The Amazons are impressed by poetry and philosophy and science and physical fitness and perfection, but at the same time that makes them slightly stuffy. That’s why I gave them a pseudo-Elizabethan, very rich almost psychedelic culture. It’s been around for so long it’s become frozen and formalized. They’re impressed by invention and philosophy and I don’t think that they would be impressed by what they see in man’s world. Diana has more of an enquiring mind, let’s say.

Morrison again:

>Superman was rich in science fiction and Batman was crime and mystery, but with Wonder Woman you were getting the influences of alternative culture and total feminism. It was all about magic and weirdness, too, with alternative lifestyles and alternative ideas, which was basically reflective of Marston’s entire life. That’s what he was. He was part of alternative culture. As a result, I think Wonder Woman has always emboldened that strand. And that’s what makes her so strange. The character has been portrayed in lots of different ways. We’ve had the girl scout version. We’ve had the warrior version. But really, she comes from a much stranger tradition. And that’s what I found out about her and what I became interested about her as a character.

I don't agree with those who say Wonder Woman writers always try and reinvent her. But I do agree with Morrison that she is interpreted in many different ways, in much more disparate ways Batman and Superman.

And by "interpreted" I mean more her world and mythos than her character.

The Golden Age, Silver Age, Perez, and modern versions of Themyscira and the Amazons are all vastly different, and though Perez has definitely defined the Amazons in the modern age (with some changes over time), lots of elements of the Golden and Silver Age versions have been abandoned and remained abandoned while stuff from Superman's Silver Age have been restored and reinterpreted over time.

In these very threads, even amongst people who are well-read with the character and understand her personality, there's preferences for different aspects of her setting. Some prefer technologically advanced Themyscira, some prefer strictly Greek. Some prefer the WWII setting and an immortal Diana, some prefer the modern setting and a young, naturally aging Diana. Some prefer Amazons who grow old and have children, some prefer immortals. And some prefer all kinds of varying degrees of these.

This would give Ares a positive sense: as the bringer of conflict, he's the patron deity of change.
And Change keeps the Amazons from growing complacent and lazy.

I don't know if BF1 was well received or not, but would it be basically the equivalent of Rebirth and Legacy, where Legacy/WWII is a blatant response to the success of the former?

>finds it unfair that women can't join the war effort
De Liz is starting to pile on the husbando bait. I'm okay with that, cause it's always pretty funny to see women writing male love interests, because they tend to fall under certain archetypes.

Bad boys are actually not that common under female writers, I find. The generic is more like Steve here. Clean cut, pure, a bit snarky but not obnoxious, often a lovable rogue type, and more often than not admires the female lead's strength and determination, and is all about that girl power, but in kind of a passive way. Like, you won't see the guy making signs for a women's march or anything.

If I'd ever write WW I would:
* adding some positive sides to Ares and Hades in the Amazon culture, with Ares(and his children) being at best an Antagonist to Wonder Woman and not an Enemy,

* giving some more flashing out to the bad sides of the Amazons(especially in the past pre-sealing away) . Not making them bad guys (anymore) but making clear they are as fallible and prone to the same bullshit as the people outside Themyscira

* Cheetah as Evil Lara Croft. Like Diana's powers come from blessed items gifted from her gods, Cheetah's come from CURSED item she stole.

I'd put them all under the more-or-less same banner in the Amazon culture.
Strife as a "necessary evil" to bring out War, and the Fear and Madness of it.
War then tempered by Logic and Knowledge(Athena) becomes "death duels" of sort, with the blood of the loser satisfying the Gods and rekindling the Amazons why trying a peaceful ways is better. For a while.

It would involve exploring the land outside the city with Diana as a young maiden, possessing only "peak human" power at the beginning, but as she explores caves and dungeons she finds the items she has here in this comic to get her powers.

Combat would be focused on self-defense over offense, with ropes/lassoes being the most effective item. The very end of the game would give you the golden lasso that is unbreakable and incredibly effective and useful for pacifying enemies.

Problem isn't much the training, as the mindset, which for many women is completely screwed up.

It's mostly a cultural problem.

Texas is like the musclegirl capital of the USA with how many girls are raised by rednecks, spending their childhood hunting and playing with guns and driving trucks and all that jazz.

Even if that's true, it's not like every male who joins the army is a perfect physical specimen either, especially in the days of the draft.

In 'Nam we drafted stoner burnouts and Private Pyle.

If you can make it through basic training, you're fit for the army. We're not talking about Special Forces here. And your fitness matters even less if you're Air Force or Navy.

most of the points are cultural problems.

That said, most don't go in the frontlines.
In theory, only the best go on the frontlines... or the cannon fodder.
If it's cannon fodder, women are fine, too.
If it's best of best, as long as the correct standards are met sex isn't a problem, except culturally. And yeah, of course they'd be a super-low minority because biology.

And the rearlines, logistic, support, etc, are as much as important if not more.

That said, males are disposable, so it's stupid sending women in dangerous places if we can avoid it.

Do you actually know anything about WWII recruiting? And again, when it's war and numbers are more important than quality that's when people begin to be drafted, in which case, yeah, physical abilites aren't as important. But men are still much more likely to be stronger than women on average so going with the average man above the average woman only makes sense.

But it's not cultural. Those are standards hardwired in human brains after generations of evolution making us think that way. Do you have proof it isn't? Just look at the behavior between human genders for thousands upon thousands of years. Then compare to the differences between other animals. Why are they different? There's been a general move away from house style for a few years now. Partially inspired by how well manga and non-cape graphic novels and webcomics appeal to the younger crowd, as in teens.

It kind of looks like Ava's Demon to me. Also with a weekly comic your art style has to be a bit simpler.
