Not caught up to the thread? No worries! Each of these stories, with a few exceptions, is relatively self-contained. Though obviously the more you've read, the more you'll like it.

I've almost finished with my new recommendation image, though it's grown into something a bit more than that.
I'm awful at graphic design and photoshop, so it's taking me some time to make it look nice.
I believe these lyrics probably come from the Holliday Girls in the Golden Age comics, but I can't be certain.
I was rereading the Gail Simone's run you dumped before and i got to confess: other than The Circle i didn't like much her stories. I also disliked a bit her take on Wonder Woman. Her Wonder Woman came off a bit too righteous and conceited. Like if only her ways and decisions were the best.
I don't know why this page is formatted differently.
>>92061967
Wow, that is some horrible art.
I'm also currently working on some annotations for Wonder Woman Earth One, because I've noticed it's one of the only Grant Morrison works that nobody has bothered to annotate. But I'm trying to read every single Marston-penned issue before I do that.

Many fans of Rucka's run were disappointed by it. I don't agree with your assessment but it's obviously your own legitimate interpretation of the comic and I thank you for giving it a shot.
>>92062130
I have not, but I think I should check it out since I was discussing it a bit in another thread today.
I've read a summary of it and it seems incredibly bizarre. I imagine a modern Wondie show would be a bit more faithful because of the success of the Flash.
I'm here to see how Boston is depicted.
Wonder Woman seems like a pain in the ass to get in the DC Legends mobile game.
>>92062173
I did liked that she injected more humor into Wonder Woman, something sorely lacking in Rucka's Wonder Woman. I also doesn't completely like Rucka's run. I found his Wonder Woman too... pragmatic for my taste.
Speaking of Earth One, something I've noticed in many reviews is criticism of the Amazons' reaction to Etta's (or rather Beth Candy's) obesity, calling it "body shaming", which I suppose it literally is, but I think it would be natural for Amazons to react that way, though I don't like the rather hostile nature of Morrison's Amazons.
>>92062206
Didn't they give her away as a pre-registration bonus?
>>92062203
>I imagine a modern Wondie show would be a bit more faithful because of the success of the Flash.
Yeah, just like how the upcoming movie is totally faithful.
And frankly, "bizarre" doesn't do it justice. For one thing, Veronica Cale is British. Yeah.
It's a bit of an uncomfortable truth to many that obesity IS unhealthy and a literal deformity, and was rare in the ancient world.
Especially Morrison's Amazons are fixated on perfection and utopia, and that includes their bodies. Every single Amazon is trained in martial combat and spends most of their time physically active. It would not make any sense for them to be familiar with obesity.
What I admire about Etta is that she IS obese, but she simply doesn't care. She loves her body and she's an incredibly happy and confident person. That is what body positivity should be about-- being happy, not about accepting and enabling.

She might have been. I only started playing it roughly a week ago, and have only seen one "farmable" node for her. There are two Diana's and one is locked away, so it might have been the registration-bonus.
The game itself isn't too good, but it only requires ~2 launches a day to play

Look, I understand the plot needs a newspaper person to move forward, but it's still a little annoying they brought in a Superman character.
Hell, it's stretching a little, but this could easily have been Mindi Mayer. Just make up some shit about how she had to be a hardass to prove herself to explain why a woman is running a newspaper in the 40s.
>>92061967
Anon, thank you so much for this story-time!
I have a request.
I've never actually read anything about Wonder Woman vs. Queen of Fables. Could you post that?
As well as some Silver Age Wonder Woman? (Not just all New All Different 'cause that's all I ever see).
>>92062682
Mindi would have been better. But perhaps this comic is set in an Earth Two esque world with Superman and Batman being WWII heroes.
Though I know De Liz talked about later having babby Bruce and Clark. Maybe they could have been babby JLA like Barry and Hal.
>>92062737
Admittedly I can't even remember anything about her original story. Waid and Hitch's JLA was so boring all I remember is the big ship from Heaven's Ladder.
Silver Age is definitely coming. There's some fun stuff in Kanigher and Andru's comics.
>>92062682
>>92062747Little smart-ass Alfred with a broken tooth appears later on.
Basically the writer wants to show Wonder Woman as this big DCU character that influenced everyone's lives throughout the ages.

Perez laughed at death again:
https://www.bleedingcool.com/2017/05/01/update-george-perez-regarding-health/
>I called the front desk and they called for an ambulance. I also phoned my longtime friend and art agent Spencer Beck, who contacted my wife Carol, who was visiting friends in England. He figured correctly that news of my affliction and possible speculations could fill the social networks, and didn’t want Carol to find out that way. At first it was speculated that I may have had blood clots that may have reached my heart or lungs, but a second EKG determined that I had indeed suffered a heart attack with some rather severe blockage in some of the vessels.
>As of this writing, I have already undergone one operation to place a stent to clear the blockage on the right side of my heart and am scheduled to have the left side taken care of today. So far, recovery has been going well and life should be relatively normal after that, although I may have to pull back on the non-stop sketching-marathons that people have come to expect from me at conventions. There may even be a few cancelations, depending on medical advice.
>>92062942
Perez is too pure for life to fuck with him like this
Sorry for the holdup, comic made me want popcorn. And coffee of course.
>>92062942
Perez loves drawing too much to die.
Something Morrison said that I liked:
>The Amazons are impressed by poetry and philosophy and science and physical fitness and perfection, but at the same time that makes them slightly stuffy. That’s why I gave them a pseudo-Elizabethan, very rich almost psychedelic culture. It’s been around for so long it’s become frozen and formalized. They’re impressed by invention and philosophy and I don’t think that they would be impressed by what they see in man’s world. Diana has more of an enquiring mind, let’s say.
>>92063009
>>92063036
Diana is cute. CUTE!
>>92063074
This exposition is giving me Metal Arms: Glitch in the System flashbacks.
It made me rethink my assertion that Amazon culture would have changed drastically over the years. The lack of strife and unhappiness doesn't call for change and innovation.
Hoo boy, here we go
Something I noticed with these digital comics? The shortness of the pages makes them real page-turners. Not quite sure why. But it's something I also noticed withSerenity
Our second run in a row where Diana gets salty about a movie.
Morrison again:
>Superman was rich in science fiction and Batman was crime and mystery, but with Wonder Woman you were getting the influences of alternative culture and total feminism. It was all about magic and weirdness, too, with alternative lifestyles and alternative ideas, which was basically reflective of Marston’s entire life. That’s what he was. He was part of alternative culture. As a result, I think Wonder Woman has always emboldened that strand. And that’s what makes her so strange. The character has been portrayed in lots of different ways. We’ve had the girl scout version. We’ve had the warrior version. But really, she comes from a much stranger tradition. And that’s what I found out about her and what I became interested about her as a character.
>where I come from, we call that "slavery" ;^)
I don't agree with those who say Wonder Woman writers always try and reinvent her. But I do agree with Morrison that she is interpreted in many different ways, in much more disparate ways Batman and Superman.
And by "interpreted" I mean more her world and mythos than her character.
>>92063225
>>92063264
>>92063283
>>92063298
I imagine the Themysciran Ministry of Arts has declared most of the man's world stories featuring the Amazons as slanderous and historically inaccurate bullshit. I would love to see the re-written, Amazon approved version of those.
WEW
The Golden Age, Silver Age, Perez, and modern versions of Themyscira and the Amazons are all vastly different, and though Perez has definitely defined the Amazons in the modern age (with some changes over time), lots of elements of the Golden and Silver Age versions have been abandoned and remained abandoned while stuff from Superman's Silver Age have been restored and reinterpreted over time.
>>92063368
>he needs instruction
... W-what kind of instruction?
>>92063375
I mean, she's not wrong.
In these very threads, even amongst people who are well-read with the character and understand her personality, there's preferences for different aspects of her setting. Some prefer technologically advanced Themyscira, some prefer strictly Greek. Some prefer the WWII setting and an immortal Diana, some prefer the modern setting and a young, naturally aging Diana. Some prefer Amazons who grow old and have children, some prefer immortals. And some prefer all kinds of varying degrees of these.
My boi
And that's where the "reinvention" meme comes from, I think. Writers reintroduce and take away elements they prefer.
Hell, if I ever get to write Wondie I'd definitely make some changes to her mythos.
My cats were tearing up my copy of Showcase Presents Wonder Woman vol. 4, the fuckers. Thankfully it's still plenty readable.
Etta is ready to score.
Also I like how in the Wonder Woman NBC pilot her name is "Diana Themyscira". Or rather, I hate it, but think it's hilarious.

>>92063577
Am I crazy or is Steve a total pretty boy in this comic?
>>92063560
>>92063611
Basically what's happening is that people are complaining about her being a mainstream comic book character, and somehow having absolutely no self awareness about it.
I remember as a young-un being fascinated by the Bermuda Triangle.
Then I found out it's the most overblown "mystery" in history and there's absolutely nothing mysterious about it or a lick of evidence that there's anything special about it.
>>92063748
I think they might have extrapolated on the fact he was based on Captain America and are modeling him after Chris Evans. Which I definitely am in favor of.

Also I think these are the only two pages of any digital comic I've seen that were clearly drawn as one page.
By the way, is it true that the next Call of Duty is gonna be a WWII game?

This would give Ares a positive sense: as the bringer of conflict, he's the patron deity of change.
And Change keeps the Amazons from growing complacent and lazy.
>>92063937
About as creative as Battlefield 1, I suppose.
I don't know if BF1 was well received or not, but would it be basically the equivalent of Rebirth and Legacy, where Legacy/WWII is a blatant response to the success of the former?

>finds it unfair that women can't join the war effort
De Liz is starting to pile on the husbando bait. I'm okay with that, cause it's always pretty funny to see women writing male love interests, because they tend to fall under certain archetypes.
Bad boys are actually not that common under female writers, I find. The generic is more like Steve here. Clean cut, pure, a bit snarky but not obnoxious, often a lovable rogue type, and more often than not admires the female lead's strength and determination, and is all about that girl power, but in kind of a passive way. Like, you won't see the guy making signs for a women's march or anything.
>>92062517
LoSH visual novel/dating sim or death.
>>92064098
Bad boys are out of vogue now, I think. Maybe it's because of the MCU being the biggest husbando farm of all time.
>>92062631
They killed Jimmy Olsen in the BvS opening. It's probably for the best.

>tfw you will never have a best friend like Etta Candy
>>92063611
>Hell, if I ever get to write Wondie I'd definitely make some changes to her mythos.
If I'd ever write WW I would:
* adding some positive sides to Ares and Hades in the Amazon culture, with Ares(and his children) being at best an Antagonist to Wonder Woman and not an Enemy,
* giving some more flashing out to the bad sides of the Amazons(especially in the past pre-sealing away) . Not making them bad guys (anymore) but making clear they are as fallible and prone to the same bullshit as the people outside Themyscira
* Cheetah as Evil Lara Croft. Like Diana's powers come from blessed items gifted from her gods, Cheetah's come from CURSED item she stole.
>>92064142
>>92064153
People actually give a shit about Jimmy fucking Olsen?
>>92063986
Might be seen as more Eris' deal but Eris usually rolls with Ares anyway (in myth). I'd give a lot to see the full war-is-fucking-hell crew roll out on a bomb-ass double spread in a WW comic, Alala and the Keres and everything. But like Marvel Thor and Norse stuff WW isn't really a Greek myth thing, and more intentionally so.
>>92064213
The last issue of Deathstroke will end with Slade getting a knock on the door. He opens it to be face with a casually dressed man with his thumbs in his belt, Betty Davis-style.

The art would be the hardest part. You don't have to come up with waifus because the entire Legion is waifus. There are a million issues of plots to use already. You can even meta-justify replays by using the Time Trapper and/or Mordru.
>>92064236
Same. Most of my best friends have been the opposite, very insecure and unable to talk to boys on their own, very lovesick. I love them dearly, but they could learn a thing or two from Etta.
>>92063928
I can't help but speculate if this page is meant to be a little fanservicey. Etta isn't often sexualized, but in this comic she's a might raunchier than usual, likely to emphasize the original point of her as a representation of body positivity.
>>92064098
>Catman casually mentioning that he used to beat women under Simone's pen, despite all her wanking of him
>>92064332
I think it absolutely is. This comic seems to get the appeal of Etta entirely.
My only problem is it seems to avoid anyone being disapproving of her except that one Mean Girls character. But I think that would be a bit against the tone of the comic.
>>92064355
That may have been from the "reinventions" of Catman as a fat asshole that came a few years before, I never read those though. She used him being a used as a joke in Green Arrow as the impetus for him to go become a hot jungle man.

>>92064024
Thank you- it's mostly because DC more often than not call him Mars. While the Hellenic Ares had almost only negative characteristics, the Roman Mars was a positive character, the bringer or development and expansion. Also, crops.
There is also the first balloon here >>92064100
I'm thinking Ares as the patron of resolving disputes with death-duels. So the Amazons wouldn't forget what a bloody death and war actually mean.
>>92064143
I love that Wondy is completely USELESS in these pages. They really bring home the point she's far from perfect and is still human.
>>92064276
>>Might be seen as more Eris' deal but Eris usually rolls with Ares anyway (in myth).
I'd put them all under the more-or-less same banner in the Amazon culture.
Strife as a "necessary evil" to bring out War, and the Fear and Madness of it.
War then tempered by Logic and Knowledge(Athena) becomes "death duels" of sort, with the blood of the loser satisfying the Gods and rekindling the Amazons why trying a peaceful ways is better. For a while.
And it should be the Girdle of Demeter.
>does canon mean nothing to these people.jpg

It would be like Breath of the Wild (which I was obsessed with for a while)
>>92064747
Everyone was obsessed with BotW for a while this year.
>>92064747
It would involve exploring the land outside the city with Diana as a young maiden, possessing only "peak human" power at the beginning, but as she explores caves and dungeons she finds the items she has here in this comic to get her powers.
Combat would be focused on self-defense over offense, with ropes/lassoes being the most effective item. The very end of the game would give you the golden lasso that is unbreakable and incredibly effective and useful for pacifying enemies.
Before yesterday I really could not imagine what a Wonder Woman game would be like, but those pages of her in the wilderness inspired me.
OH NO HE'S HOOOOT!

If you can make it through basic training, you're fit for the army. We're not talking about Special Forces here. And your fitness matters even less if you're Air Force or Navy.
WEW
>>92065684
Yeah, not every guy who joins the army is physically great. But you know what? Those guys get desk jobs. For those guys they don't typically go into the field. Not everyone who joins the army fights.
Her hair looks a bit more Ross Andru than HG Peter, tee bee aych
Also I love they kept true to the Golden Age costume. This shit is so good.
>>92065742
Not in WWII.
>>92065711
Cue the theme song.
>>92065684
And where did you learn about Nam drafting? Movies? why don't you actually cite some evidence.
>>92065773
I'm not here to talk about women in the army, I'm here to read a fucking comic book.
>>92065503
most of the points are cultural problems.
That said, most don't go in the frontlines.
In theory, only the best go on the frontlines... or the cannon fodder.
If it's cannon fodder, women are fine, too.
If it's best of best, as long as the correct standards are met sex isn't a problem, except culturally. And yeah, of course they'd be a super-low minority because biology.
And the rearlines, logistic, support, etc, are as much as important if not more.
That said, males are disposable, so it's stupid sending women in dangerous places if we can avoid it.
>>92065760
Do you actually know anything about WWII recruiting? And again, when it's war and numbers are more important than quality that's when people begin to be drafted, in which case, yeah, physical abilites aren't as important. But men are still much more likely to be stronger than women on average so going with the average man above the average woman only makes sense.
>>92065760
>love they kept true to the Golden Age costume.
Well, except she's wearing a skirt, instead of culottes, but that's a common mistake and admittedly isn't that big a deal.
>>92065861
I'll admit I didn't even notice till I looked at the cover of Sensation #2 just now
>>92065824
But it's not cultural. Those are standards hardwired in human brains after generations of evolution making us think that way. To claim it's culture is liking trying to claim the reason why female lions hunt instead of male lions is a cultural issue too. That doesn't make sense. Try to be objective here.
>>92065241
Even when she is expressing gratitude and affection, Wonder Woman hates necks.
By the way, that's Priscilla Rich, the original Cheetah. Who was basically a girl in a Cheetah suit.
>>92065908
Surely, you have proof that they are hardwired and not cultural
>>92065908
>>92065960
Let's not do this, please.
>>92065302
>Etta Candy has a little brother
>Name Mint
>>92065341
>>92065503
>>92065587
I bet you call women "roasties" too, you massive faggot. Fuck outta here, we're trying to read a goddamned comic book.
>>92065967
Yep! I like how they were totally unashamed of this and stuck to it. Morrison felt the name was silly (seriously, Morrison calling something too silly for comics?) and a lot of the reviews I read praised this a lot.
>>92065960
Do you have proof it isn't? Just look at the behavior between human genders for thousands upon thousands of years. Then compare to the differences between other animals. Why are they different? Typically evolution. Honestly, it's a far wilder claim to say it's purely a cultural difference. You should be the one coming up with proof, and not me.
>>92065908
>Try to be objective here.
Okay. Your insistence on pushing this barely related topic is highly disruptive and is a transparent salvo of shitposting.
Fuck off.
I suppose this comic is a bit on the lighter side so it's easier to get away with, but I feel if you just do something without treating it as silly the audience won't think it's silly.
>>92065989
I don't know the term.
And there are some people that will find it silly no matter what you do, but maybe that's their problem.
>>92066058
Large and dark external labia.
See, I don't like the idea that someone can just put on her clothes and have the powers of Wonder Woman.
But it's completely just my personal preference and I can't back it up with any real criticism.
>show-pony
This has a lot of sexual implications

Shitty artist.

CANON LESBIANS YEARS BEFORE MORRISON!
>>92066149
To be fair Wonder Woman was always representative of alternative culture and counter-culture even back then. I don't think Marston ever touched racial barriers, though.
>>92066112
Just make the clothes be a Thor deal with only someone with amazons blood and worthiness being able to pull it off.
>>92066185

God, why is DC so desperate to ride that Marvel dick instead of coming up with their own original content?
>>92066222
>it's a "I have to be the worst shit on the board and fuck up a storytime" episode
I love how Diana is the aloof one and Steve is nervous.
>>92066222
You're a funny guy.
>>92066112
you'd need to STEAL them from Diana first...
and the same is true for Batman, Iron Man and basically every other gimmick-based hero.
Just have Diana's peak human fit being the reason she can use all of them together so well, when normal people would have a very hard time to correctly use just one(see what happened to Etta)
>>92066149
Pshh, you think THAT'S bad? How about mighty whitey here >>92066151 showing some attraction for the darkie?
>>92066209
More than Morrison's
Bad time to get a mental phone call
Steve on suicide watch
Wait this is the same scene as Diana fighting Circe in Jimenez's run
I honestly hate this comic's art style. It's so damn cartoony and and horribly shaded. Why are all comics made for feminists and tumblr types drawn this way? Honest question. And I'm not trying to say anything bad about the actual ideologies, only that I noticed this art style popping up in this and Ms. Marvel and similar titles. I hate it so much.
I was thinking the costume must be based on Andru because of the hair, but looking at my covers I don't think she EVER wore a dress/skirt like this.
>>92066192
>last panel
Etta is stealing the show with how gosh darn cute she is. She's so huggable!
>>92066185
Eh. The implication has always been there, but writers have had to settle for a wink wink nudge nudge approach until now.
>>92066407
There's been a general move away from house style for a few years now. Partially inspired by how well manga and non-cape graphic novels and webcomics appeal to the younger crowd, as in teens.
It kind of looks like Ava's Demon to me. Also with a weekly comic your art style has to be a bit simpler.
>>92066475
Marston and Peter were about as explicit as you could possibly be in their comics. They had a traditional game where women dressed up as deer and other women would chase and catch them and tie them up for fuck's sake.
They would then "skin" them by stripping their costume.
>>92066482
WicDiv, too.
>>92066511
You hunt a deer to eat it, don't forget that.
Also it's just kind of a fact that women seem to prefer more stylized art. At least, all of my friends prefer it. They have literally no interest in anything house style, but jump when they see more stylized things. They then ask me if they're any good, which unfortunately I usually have to tell them no, they're not.
Most of them LOVE Hellboy, so it's not even a thing of just more "girly" content.
Nice skirt, guy
Diana talks to her inner-fratboy-- er, girl
And here we go with the gods
>>92066482
I remember the last time comics got inspired by anime and mangahttps://comicvine.gamespot.com/x-men-phoenix-legacy-of-fire-1-part-1/4000-158865/
and then there was that whole imprint where dc translated manga
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CMX_(comics)
this was a time where manga literally kicked american comics' asses in american comics own market
Something Loebs really pushed in his run was that the gods were not interacting directly with the world, but casting their imprint on the world, which is a common hypercrisis concept
>>92066735
Manga still kinda does, though not as big of a craze. At my favorite used book store I'm always having to push past tons of college age girls browsing the manga shelves in order to look at the comics.
>>92066735
And DC and Marvel of course took all the wrong messages from manga at the time. They've done much better recently but Marvel still doesn't seem to get how important trades are to the market now.
So Duke of Deception is basically Ares Buchanan
>>92066149
>Fuck white people.
And fuck drumpf too
Is this a commentary on Kingdom Come/Injustice on purpose, or by coincidence?
>>92066823

>They've done much better recently but Marvel still doesn't seem to get how important trades are to the market now.
They seem to get that vol 1s do good but not so good if there's 5 different ones lol
At least they stopped the senseless relaunching, cause I'm impressed that some books are up to issue 20+
Though I am still laughing at them telling retailers "we can't put lower priced trades because nobody would buy the expensive ones!!"
>>92066934
It might be on purpose given those comics influence on WW.
Absolutely adorable
Christ, that height!
I don't think we're gonna fit it all into one thread, sadly.

Aren't you tired of it? Kingdom Come, Injustice 1 and 2, Superman: Red Son, Flashpoint and so on.

Yeah, but those same Elseworlds have evil Wonder Woman following his commands.

Still not liking Diana denying her gods.
Better all than just the male ones, though.
So little Alfred Pennyworth finally made his debut.
Or Titanfall/Wolfenstein crossover?
>>92067377
What a completely bizarre choice of character.
>I said, HOP. IN.

Hey, the writer wanted WW to be Batman's surrogate mother. We're in uncharted territories here.

Why is little Alfred Cockney? Is this supposed to be the Micheal Caine version, what the hell?

Yup, third-act action scene.
>>92067495
love the details in this comic
Also gotta stop the Big Bad from activating the big laser weapon that'll DESTROY DA WORLD
And post-credits will tease Ares as being behind it all (even though we knew that) for the sequel
And setting up Cheetah will never pay off because after the third one they'll reboot
>>92067611
it's not a big laser weapon, but No Man Escape It
