This would've been more appropriate to post yesterday, given the title. It was also my ma's b-day, which is why I didn't.
This is the third or fourth time I've posted this story arc, as well.
I have to say, I'm liking Rucka's run a liiiittle bit less on this reading, after all we've read so far and re-reading Perez.
Something's just a little bit off about it.

Still love Veronica Cale, though. And not just because she's a tough Texas woman.

>>91729913
Hey Tex.
Gorgons. Scaly green women with snakes for hair, usually turn you to stone by making eye contact.
Here's the question for the ages: Drugs, or some lonely Greek fellow really wanted to fuck a snake?
>>91730013
I liked his embassy stuff, and trying to expand some supporting characters. That last little but withCheckmatewas also kind of cool, but very out-of-left-field
>>91729968
I can understand Athena and Aphrodite's look.
But fuck the what is Demeter doing? Bow and Arrow and shredded clothes seems more like a thing Artemis would get up to.
>>91730080
Greeks had nothing to do all day except bang little boys and come up with whacky stories.
>>91730084
When Sasha Bordeaux showed up in Wonder Woman I laughed out loud because it was just a bit too typical Rucka.
>>91730139
Was there any hint that I might have missed thatThe introductory guy from the start of the run was actually an agent for Max Lord?
>>91730120
It is weird, isn't it? Maybe some kind of modern hippie Wiccan equivalent?
Or, to keep with the thread theme so far, pothead as part of the plant/Earth theme?

>>91730168
Far as I can tell,Lordwas not involved at all. Williamson did a little bit with him in the half of SS vs JL that I read and his origin IIRC didn't have Sasha in it at all.

This is getting pretty lewd
Slight Hijack, what do y'all think of Rebirth WW?
>>91730205
It really is.
She never asked for this. She just wanted supertall Amazon BFF/waifu.
>>91730257
Really like it, though it has some issues. I've been heavily proselytizing Year One because it's fantastic.
I'm disappointed it's coming to an end so soon because I think a lot of the problems would have been easy to overlook if it had ended up being a long-runner.
>>91730257
Also the complaints of it "shitting" on Azz's run really grind my gears and get me ranting.
>>91729968
Okay, so straight up, I fucking hate the Olympians, and find them to consistently be the weakest part of any given run. This run is the only time they've been at all interesting, since their antics are more about good old fashion power plays and scheming rather than a glorified episode of Jerry Springer.
And frankly, they're part of the reason why Diana gets turned into a low rent Xena clone so often. People see Greek mythology, they expect the work to be exactly like it, unlikable asshole protagonist included.
Remove the Gods. They're all annoying cunts.
Like, all the crap New 52 Superman has been getting in the comics is totally fine and justified, but in Wonder Woman it's not?
It's just because Azz was a lot of peoples' first Wonder Woman and they're not really fans of the character enough to see what a departure it was.
>>91730326
I think I remember from my light reading of the Simone run that they were all flying around space or something during that thing. Looking in my files right now, I seem to be missing every file that was pre-n52. Time to remedy that
>>91730326
>And frankly, they're part of the reason why Diana gets turned into a low rent Xena clone so often. People see Greek mythology, they expect the work to be exactly like it, unlikable asshole protagonist included.
Agreed 100%.
I did like Hermes in Perez's run, but overall I prefer them to be kind of beyond massive interference with mortals. More godly, if you will. They show up to make blessings and do some shitty things and then leave.
Bump to read later.

>>91730257
shitty balls
I would LOVE to visit the Amazon embassy.
>>91730394
Actually, at this point I might as well just start uploading everything I got.
Jimenez says Diana's arch-villain is Ares, but I think ironically even in his own run it was Circe.
Though I guess you could say Ares is just so big that you don't just throw him around willy nilly.
>>91730394
Thanks Texas. I recently got unlimited internet up here in Canada, and have beentorrentingthe crap out of things (except recent movies) because it is a pain in the ass for companies to prosecute us up here
I probably should have just called the thread "Eyes of the Gorgon" but I'm too immature not to go for the pun.
>>91730527
desu I just pay for a decent VPN and have all my torrents go through that, it's basically impossible to get caught that way.
It's really cheap so the amount of money I save being a filthy pirate of movies for my media server justifies it to me.
>>91730340
>It's just because Azz was a lot of peoples' first Wonder Woman and they're not really fans of the character enough to see what a departure it was.
It's almost certainly this. Or, and I'm just gonna say it, a fair number of people seem to enjoy the, I dunno, validation of seeing the Amazons as evil cunts. Which, again, is frankly offensive because it misses the entire point of Marston's Amazons, that they are not the asshole anti-woman propaganda the Greeks made them to be.
>>91730621
shut the fuck up idot
Not sure why these two pages weren't already combined, sorry, had to take a minute to fix them.
>>91730621
I try not to get too upset because I know the people aren't TRYING to be assholes. So that's why I do these threads, so people can maybe get the same appreciation for Wondie as they already do Superman.
Some say the Azzarello Amazons are more "historically accurate", which I feel is equivalent to saying that the Kents should be bigoted Christians because it would be more "accurate" to how many Kansas farmers are.
I'm sure it would technically be more "realistic" in some sense, but it's completely counter to how the character actually works in the comics.
Folks just gotta ignore the things people parrot about Wondie and give her a chance. Lots of people say dumb stuff about Superman being boring because in "all his stories he just easily wins!" which is obviously not true, but when they finally give him a chance they get why people love him.
I really, REALLY hope the movie, whether it's good or bad, convinces people to learn about the character.
Ferdinand is just really based.
I find these kinds of sequences to be kind of cheap and schmaltzy but as everyone has seen with Superman they seem to really connect with people.
... though of course this scene isn't actually that type of scene.
>>91730483
She really is though. Circe is the enemy who consistently gives Diana the most trouble, her machinations usually take on a personal slant, and even though I personally don't care for themes and such, even I can't deny that she serves as a great dramatic foil. Diana is a melee fighter where Circe relies on long range spells, Diana is more prone to recklessness where Circe is a patient manipulator, and Diana loves everyone where Circe is deeply misanthropic.
Circe is Diana's archenemy, not Cheetah or Ares. It just makes more sense.
And Psycho is the secret most fun Wondie villain. Simone does absolute amazing shit with this character.
Speaking of Wonder Woman, Kurt Busiek had an interesting thread in twitter the other day about fictional cultures isolated from man. He started out talking about the Inhumans but the conversation quickly turned to the Amazons of Themyscira (I guess the Inhumans were a bit too boring for Kurt too, heh) and how their society would hypothetically work, and how writers haven't really explored enough the intricacies of an isolated society in a superhero world. Honestly, I think he's right, Wonder Woman could support her own micro-cosmos in a way few other characters could, but writers rarely explore how Themysciran culture would work, it's just... there.
>>91730880
Actually, IMO there's been tons of exploration of the culture, though maybe not as much as some other fictional cultures.
Perez had several issues devoted entirely to just describing the culture, and some to the culture of Bana-Mighdall.
Though there could be a LOT more there, and all of these have rested on the idea that their culture went essentially unchanged for 3000 years.
That's a reason I like the addition of their advanced technology, and Morrison nailed it in Earth One.
>>91730958
I'm surprised there aren't too many evil telepaths. Or, at least they are not used as frequently as they could be. I guess it would get harder and harder to write creative ways to stop them as time goes on.
>>91731002
>I guess it would get harder and harder to write creative ways to stop them as time goes on.
Yep, see Psi-mon in New Teen Titans.
It would usually just come down to sending their current psychic against him and them both standing still going "hurr, his mental abilities nearly match mine!"
>>91730958
It had a bit more to do with how the everyday happenings of the island worked, like what the fisherwomen did, or the sculptresses (man, must they get work), or the writers, etc. More in line with his work on Astro City and focusing on the "little guy" (or gal, as it turns out) and therefore giving some context to readers as to how that society would work and what living in the island would be like.
Yeah really can't tell you what the intent behind Demeter is here.
>>91731076
Yeah that sounds good. I hope someone expands on that if we ever have Diana get back to the island.
In this run there is some explanation of how their metal-working caste works.
Phillipus is just my favorite Amazon. She's always so cool.
>>91731002
Basically. Telepathy is OP as fuck, so you can't have too many strong ones running around.
Hell, even telepathic heroes are utterly terrifying, like Saturn Girl of the Legion of Super-Heroes ("THINK ABOUT PAIN." "AAAARGH!!!").Imra is best girl, by the way.
She's also one of the few Amazons that works as kind of a bigoted asshole towards men, though not excessively so.
Pretty sure Azz didn't use her either, ironically.
>>91731132
>mfw they cast Phillipus as Artemis in the Wondie movie
seriously wtf
>>91731162You misspelled Tinya

>>91731031
>>91731162
I have to say, I did love how psychically mindwiping everyone backfired on Max Lord when we were reading Generation Lost (Erasing Wonder Woman as well)
>>91731183
We'll just have to agree to disagree, Tex. Good taste though.
But then, what Legion girl ISN'T top tier waifu material?
>>91731333
Precisely. When have you ever seen a Legion waifu discussion that wasn't basically just people listing every female Legionnaire?
I love this sequence.
Also I love Clash of the Titans.
Over this month I have also developed more of a distaste for Rucka having Diana kill Medusa and use a sword more. But mostly because it's never really addressed in detail, and never followed up on satisfyingly post-Infinite Crisis.
>>91731386
The original or the remake?:^)
>>91731369
There was one of those the other day actually, and it involved dumping a "who's who of the Legion," so you are totally correct
Funny how Ares is basically the only one without a ridiculous themed costume.
>>91731446
Take a wild guess. Though when the remake came out I wasn't yet cynical enough not to be hyped and see it in the theater.
In fact, that movie was probably a big contribution to my current cynicism.
I can't stop laughing at these amazing custome cow glasses.
This totally needed an entire page devoted just to it.
>>91731369
The 31st century has vastly superior waifu technology.
On a related note, am I the only one who finds it odd that Diana has never appeared in a Legion story? I mean, she's immortal, so it would be easy to have her just kinda hangin' around, have a team up. And for that matter, where are the Amazons? Did they leave Earth and colonize Femnaz?
>Sappho's hands!
We don't get enough lines like this.
>>91731548
Actually Diana is the one Amazon who is not immortal, though presumably she'll live a pretty long time.
Amazons eventually moved to Venus, per DC One Million. But it is strange that nobody ever really does anything with future Amazons or Wonder Woman.
Medusa...
DUDE STONED LMAO
Even when Diana got pretty fed up with Cheetah and Circe's shit she never got deadly.
This is a pretty cool costume despite my distaste for Diana with weapons.
Remember fucking Wizard?
I find it interesting how even after six years and hundreds of issues, my perceptions of Diana continue to change. Though maybe the "hundreds of issues" part has a lot to do with it.
>Yankee Stadium
Sorry, I'm aMetsfan.I've never met anyone who's had a positive reaction to me saying that.
>>91731671
That's because they never outright murdered an innocent child.
Also, I love Ares' business time mode.
One thing that's changed is I continue to love Circe more and more.
>>91731800
Stheno was dropped on the head as a child, wasn't she?
>This trailer looks awesome!
Also in real life that guy would've totally said "graphics" instead of "CGI"
Between Hiketeia, this, and Max Lord, Diana really burned all her bridges with Batman.
>Beyond Yankeedome
I really love Johns' Flash.
We I-Ching now
>>91731828
Circe's the goddamn best. She strikes this great balance of being simultaneously funny and threatening. She's one of those characters who can inject some life into even a crap story.
She made SM/WW readable for a few issues. I rest my case.
>>91731846
No, she's... Stheno's just special.
>whore-goddess
>literally a virgin goddess
welp
Can't deny that this got a lot of people reading back then.
I'm not quite sure if she means that she had to kill, or that the kiddo got stoned.
>>91732013
I will be legit upset if I-Ching and Diana don't meet up in New Super-Man.
But at the end of the day, if Byrne having Superman kill Zod and friends could be done, having Wonder Woman kill could work too.
>>91732194If it even really is I-Ching!
NSM is so fucking good.
Comin' at ya like a dark horse
Wow, DC, turning a classic character like Pegasus into a minority for diversity points.
Circe is just fucking amazing. Rucka knows how to write a cocky bitch.
I wonder if I'd like Cassie. I need to read Young Justice.
>>91732179
Both.
Also, this is where the run does something I adore for a bit. Whenever the hero of a story goes through a long series of life shitting on them, they go through a period of being fresh out of fucks to give. It's fucking great.
>>91732199

IIRC never an embassy but probably my favorite Perez arc involves a selection of human ambassadors going to Themyscira. Probably gonna post it eventually, but it's #36-40.
Also is narrated by Lois Lane like issue #170.
Deities are all such pricks.
That's all I'm posting tonight, I think. Still haven't decided what else from Rucka I'm gonna do.
Thanks for reading, folks!
>>91732571
>Thanks for reading, folks!
Thank you for posting.
>>91732457
Could they have used the Purple Ray on Vanessa? I assume there was a justification for not using it
>>91730818
To use Batman as an example, Circe is Diana's Joker while Ares is Diana's Ra's Al Ghul. Ares is the bigger threat but Circe is far more personal to Diana.
>>91732571
Thanks for posting, Tex.
Being Diana is suffering.
>>91732659
Waaaay too fucked up. The Purple Ray kinda sucks in this universe. They did say something about it in an earlier Rucka issue IIRC.
Also they don't wanna use it on humans typically, that's actually how Cassie got her powers.
>>91730856
How much do you want to bet that when Psycho shows up in Rebirth, he's going to be leading a group of MRA's?
>>91732735
I could see someone making him some sort of metaphor for PUAs.
But unless he debuts in Batgirl and the Birds of Prey I don't see them attaching any Twitter politics to it.
>>91732735
I think that might be too on the nose. I can see him being like Tom Cruise in Magnolia (pickup artist).
If Simone does write this book again, I can see him coming back
>>91732457
I see this Amazon was trained in medicine by Hippocrates.
This is why I hate "ultra-advanced micronations" in comic books.
>>91732816
I want to see Dr. Psycho drawn as a tinier Tom Cruise now
>>91733048
Nah, gotta be Peter Dinklage. For synergy.
>>91731271
This page is why I think you can write some interesting conflicts between Diana and Arthur. Diana and the Amazons advocating for being left alone vs Arthur wanting Atlantis to be fully integrated with the world.
>>91730876
Here we establish that direct line of sight is required.
>>91730565
Can someone please explain why the man has turned to stone?
And bump.
>>91733179
Medusa looking in the security cams. Fool never stood a chance.
>>91733170
Despite the vomit-inducing shitty characterization in Flashpoint, the Atlantis-Themyscira conflict did bring to mind the odd lack of crossover between those two.
I think Atlantis canon sank quite a while before Themyscira, though.
And I love the culture Abnett has been making for Atlantis in Aquaman lately.
You have to tread carefully with Themyscira. Too much development and you can ruin some of it, not enough and it becomes boring.
>>91731548
The Legion really only acknowledges Superman so...
Thanks for the post Texas, got my Golden age omni in the mail today so going to spend all weekend reading Wondy.

>>91731271
>Even non-aggression would suffice.
>But such a treaty would threaten our neutrality.
Could an international diplomacy anon explain to me how this works?
>>91731305
>And our word alone Will not suffice?
It is my understanding that he wants to define what it is they are giving their word on, I don't see how this is an issue for them.
>>91733667
Any kind of treaty shows a cooperation with a country and therefore isn't neutral. If they make a non-aggression pact with someone, that's not much different than being an ally. So like if America bombs the fuck out of Russia, Themyscira would be an ally of America and therefore an enemy of Russia whether they actually commit militarily or not.
The Amazons in this case think they're being pretty fair by just saying "it's all cool man don't worry about it" but in politics that doesn't really work. Phillipus just doesn't understand that. USA is saying they need something substantial or else they're not gonna let their guard down. In politics, you NEVER take someone's word, ever, because USA could pull their defenses off, and then Themyscira immediately attacks, or even just leaves their forces there, and USA looks like a bunch of chumps.
tl;dr modern politics are really anal and distrustful, justifiably, but Phillipus doesn't really get that. She also doesn't totally trust USA so doesn't want to be the first to back down.
>>91733263
But it's not direct line of sight, there is a lense, a wire and a screen in the way, that feels like it should be > a mirror.
>>91734441
I don't know how to respond to things being this messed up, so if I promise not to invade Texas Florida Anon will feel the need to invade/bomb me when the two of you go to war? What if I just promise not to invade Florida also?

>>91739937
In Simonson's short run she has the longest hair she's ever had, then next time she appears in Rucka's run it's this short shit.
I think it's just Rucka's short hair fetish
I really should have just started with this and Down to Earth but I just HAD to do the Stoned pun, dammit. I was a fool.
Just so you know literally NOYHING fucking happens in this issue, but it's still really enjoyable as a one-off.
>>91739995
Hey now, we learn about how old Jonah is and how important it is that he works for the embassy, being a key and vital part of this run.
I'm just going to pretend that he is actually Jonah for Veep and make these issues better
Since I'm reading Perez on my other PC at this same time I just wanna say: 80's and early 90's minority characters were so fucking good, because they were just like real people. They acknowledged that they were black or gay just like in real life. I don't know if I'm making sense, but basically what I mean is a lot of modern minority characters are just completely toothless, they never talk about being black or Muslim or whatever they are unless it's to make some kind of statement.
I don't know if I'm making any sense. I just mean they feel like real people.
Jimenez talked about it too
And G. Willow Wilson.
This usually gets at least a dozen "wew lad" replies
Anyway minorities are a touchy subject here and I don't wanna get all REMEMBER THE 80'S KIDS TODAY THEY DON'T KNOW but I think even the /pol/iest of /pol/s could get what I mean
I'm either gonna sleep reeeelly late tomorrow or do a lot of storytiming to make the board nicer.
I wonder how people would feel if Superman found them shitposting on a beautiful Saturday
Batman IS a shitposter so he probably wouldn't mind
Women wanbt to be here. Men want to be with her.
This is the first issue of the arc "Down to Earth" that involves Vanessa!Silver ZSwan but I'm only posting this one.

Aphrodite being the child of Uranu should put her on titan power level, it took an alliance of all the two titans and the 6 children along with that hundred hands guy (race?) and the all (3?) cyclops to take four of them.
Then again most of those were the kids of Uranus so maybe not, she's still probably pretty high power as generation seems to equals power level on Olympus.
