>In 2008, a team of scientists led by S. Wroe conducted an experiment to determine the bite force of the great white shark, using a 2.5 metres (8.2 ft) long specimen, and then isometrically scaling the results for its maximum confirmed size and the conservative minimum and maximum body mass of C. megalodon, placing the bite force of the latter between 108,514 N (24,390 lbf) and 182,201 N (40,960 lbf) in a posterior bite. Compared to 18,216 N (4,095 lbf) for the largest confirmed great white shark,[5] and 7,400 N (1,660 lbf) for the placoderm fish Dunkleosteus.[43]

After Infinite Crisis, Wonder Woman got a soft reboot by Jodi Picoult that introduced a new love interest, Nemesis AKA Tom Tressor.

It was obviously an attempt to make the comic more like the 70's TV show, but in George Perez's post-Crisis reboot Steve was made like 40 years old so he was out of the picture.

Yeah oddly enough the only times he's really used his disguise ability was during Picoult's run to try and break Diana out of superjail.

They actually did a little interesting bit there where Tom was disguised as Sarge Steel, but Everyman was also impersonating Steel at the same time, so the two had to out-jape each other to make the troops believe the other was the traitor.

DC is incapable of understating a Marvel character, DC Penance would be the guy who was responsible for the last but one crisis and thinks he's responsible for the destruction of his home universe until it is revealed that he actually saved his home universe and they're ready to go to war to get their savour back because they believe he's being held against his will.

The whole baby make no fucking sense if she wants to replenish the island with new amazons. That is... unless she expects to do nothing but remain on bed with her legs open for the next decade or so in order to pump out as many babies she can. Even then is rather pointless.

The most obvious solutions would be to recruit women from outside to come live in the island the amazonian way.
>>
>>92010709
I don't think she expects Tom to replenish the island population using Diana as a Mare.
I think she just wants grandchildren.

Also, I think they tried something like that in 52 or Countdown, but it turned out to be a front for recruiting Female Furies.

I wish they would come back in general in the DCU. I loved this entire era of DC because of how "fictionalized" the world got, if you know what I mean. Themyscira, Gorilla City, and Atlantis were all pretty major players in global politics, the president was fictional and Luthor had been president, etc. I call it the "DC Universe Online" era because it makes me think of all the factions and sheer amount of DC shit is in DCUO.

But I think writers are afraid of the world becoming too unrelatable if it strays too far from the real world.

Hell yeah! Tolifar and the gang are great. They're comic relief that actually serve a tangible story function.

Honestly, I feel like Diana's frequently rotating supporting cast could be made into a strength instead of a perceived weakness. Play it up as her having a huge network of friends that she can call up whenever. And given the sheer number of people she knows, that can serve as a well for milking stories.

Honestly after doing this whole linear readthrough of her post-Crisis history I don't feel her cast rotates as much as people say.

Ones that have been forgotten are that one police guy Byrne made, Cassie's mom who doesn't show up anymore, and the people who worked at the embassy.

But then you have characters like the named Amazons and Artemis who were present from their inception but only thrown out for the New 52 and finally just brought back, and the Kapatelis who are both great and need to be restored to continuity.

The sword thing is all thanks to Kingdom Come. Mark Waid introduced the idea of a magical sword made by Hephaestus that is so razor sharp it can cut atoms.

Ever since KC this fucking sword has been using in cross-overs when shit gets real and after the New 52 it became a permanent attire of the character.

Yeah, but in Infinite Crisis the whole point of Batman holding a gun in his misguided attempt to avenge Nightwing as so Wonder Woman could stop him and remind him that this type of solution isn't worthy, which served as a callback to when WW snapped Lord's neck and ended up severing their friendship.
>>

The good parts of KC doesn't relate to WW, while all the bad parts deal with her in some way. So as WW fan i hate it.

Right, and then its thematic purpose in FC was pretty obvious as well. So I'll actually say the sword and armor in this arc work symbolically because it's supposed to be Diana pulling all stops to beat Genocide and maybe going too far, as we'll see.

The Gargareans are the one element of this franchise I wish was a bit closer to the myths. Just a bunch of dudes the Amazons keep on the side when they need daughters, and dumping all the male children there.

Every time they are a thing in WW, it ends up being stupid and in one notable case, very fedora-tippy.

I would say that they should perhaps not be a thing at all, but I foolishly hold out hope for well done political commentary in these books, considering exploring the various aspects of feminism is arguably the entire point of the character. But we can't have nice things, so whatever.

I guess you just agree "OK, for the next 75 years we're only gonna bang each other".

Though of all the Amazons, Hippolyta would be the one who shouldn't be able to have any kind of marriage, because that would make them the co-ruler. But then you had Phillipus inherit the throne after Polly died and Diana left. So who knows.

DC in general was trying to make Kingdom Come canon to the main universe during the 2000's and 2010's. You had Magog appearing in the main universe, Alan Scott gaining his emerald armor and creating his emerald city in the sky, WW always pulling her hawk armor, the Joker constantly teaming-up with Lex and working in Metropolis and so on.

Hell, in Generation Lost it became a plot-point that the resurrected Lord witnessed the KC future when he was brought back by the White Light and was trying to murder Magog + WW to prevent that dark future.

So Hippolyta died in Our Worlds At War.

Then much later Circe brought her back to life. But then under orders from Athena, she and the Amazons attacked Washington DC because Diana had been taken prisoner by Circe's buddy posing as Sarge Steel.

Then the Amazons decided to repeatedly violate the Code of the Amazons and the Geneva Convention by slaughtering everybody for no reason with various monsters and BEES.

Then it's revealed that Athena made them do all of it as a test of some sort, which they failed, and she damns Circe to Hades, and then punishes the Amazons by erasing their memories and spreading them all over the world and closing Themyscira from them, and isolating Hippolyta there.

AND THEN, it's revealed that this wasn't actually Athena at all, it was actually Granny Goodness, who captured all the Greek gods.

Apparently this has some sort of relevance to Countdown but I still have no idea what the fucking point of any of this shit was.

>>
>>92014592

That's because Didio knew Morrison was doing something with the Female Furies being Darkseid's generals in his bid to overtake the world and that there was more than just the known Female Furies, including Wonder Woman. But he didn't had the script, because Morrison doesn't share his scripts before finishing them anymore ever since his New X-Men run.

So Didio wanting to cash in on Final Crisis decided to put 2 + 2 together and have Granny Goodness disguised as Athena attempt to manipulate the amazons into becoming the Female Furies, with Wonder Woman being a big target.

It's hilarious how Countdown was trying to make head and tails of Final Crisis and ended up getting a lot from the event wrong and be basically retconned by the event it tried to serve as a tie-in for.

I'm about sick of "epic" orchestral scores for absolutely every single movie.

This is a weird example admittedly, but you ever ply the Sonic Adventure games? In those games, every character had their own theme song, each using a different style of music. As a result, each one was distinctive and instantly memorable.

Why the fuck can't modern movies do this? It's a bit difficult to get invested in your music when it all sounds exactly the fucking same.

Yeah that's one of the big reasons I'm so jaded by modern movies. Everything is just constantly cranked up to 11 in terms of sound, CGI, on-screen action, the characters themselves, the stakes have to be THE END OF THE WORLD, it's just so tiring.

I did really like Man of Steel's OST (which I bought on vinyl because I'm a shameless fantard) so I was really disappointed that BvS's wasn't as good. My cousin actually did some of the drums on MoS, he specializes in all these obscure types of drums that were brought in for that film.

That's the one. Apparently it was shot in such a way to make it look good in black & white, but the studio wouldn't let them release a movie in black & white in this day and age, even though the movie was EXTREMELY low budget.

And this shit was getting old years ago, cause damn near every story, especially in comics, has to have game changing stakes, to the point of there not being a status quo to change in the first place. BWAAAAAAAW! That's actually one of the reasons I like Rebirth, and is likely part of it's success, the general focus on character driven stories and keeping things smaller and grounded for a while so the big stuff will actually matter worth a damn. BWAAAAAAW!!!

See, this I like. You have Diana going all out, there's balls to the wall action and explosions and destruction, but it's treated as a big deal, and there's in-story reason for it, and it has consequences to the character.

This is my second time reading this run, and I'm finding it may be my new favorite after Perez.

Rebirth is such a breath of fresh air. It not perfect by any measure, but it's so nice to have a direction that lets fans fucking relax for once. There aren't a million things to follow or convoluted cross cross goings on that require you to read pretty much every title to understand. Any ongoing storylines are for the most part self contained, with a small mention in other books where it makes sense.

I honestly hope things stay this relatively chill long after the Dr. Manhattan stuff is dealt with. It's nice.

So many are touting it as a return to 00's sensibilities, but I don't see that as much. Like you said it's more of just fresh air. Letting the stories be stories and letting the writers prove they understand the characters without editors breathing down their necks.

The only thing I thought was shitty was the JL vs SS, but even that was still contained totally to those two books, and probably appealed to people who were buying those two.

God-damn. Not really used to Diana straight up giving orders and putting on the royal voice.

See, this is why I wish the Circle weren't villains, more like antagonistic supporting characters. They represent the potential for an interesting political dynamic back on the island, so Diana has a regular thing to deal with at home. Their core concept of overzealous security officers can be easily adapted to suit a wider range of stories.

Oh ok, so by doing all this Ares somehow created a timeline where Diana fails, then took the corpse from that timeline, and in doing so put into motion the events that would lead to Diana preventing said timeline from coming to be?

But then why wouldn't Ares just do whatever he did in the first place to lead to Diana's defeat? Because bringing her corpse back in time would accomplish nothing?

Maybe it was a vanity thing and therefore echoes how Diana chose not to take revenge on the creature?

Or maybe just they didn't think about it that much

They should make her MORE like Superman, if anything, in that Superman is allowed to be and encouraged to be this hopeful, kind figure that presents an "ideal to aspire to".

You can set her apart without compromising her ideals, this very run being an example.

Superman is a kind and just man, Wonder Woman being female can be tender and loving. She can touch people on a more raw emotional level where Superman would come off as creepy or gay.

Instead they choose to often REJECT her femininity and put traditionally masculine features on her, like stubbornness, short-temperedness, violence, etc.

It's this whole bizarre contradiction with modern feminism, that if you make a woman more feminine it's giving in to stereotypes, therefore it's empowering to make them less feminine. That's not what Wonder Woman was about from her conception or in her reboot.

The brilliance of Perez is he took Wonder Woman, in an age where Superman and Batman were being made more edgy and traditional superhero morality was seen as outdated, and made her more peaceful, more idealistic, and more feminine.

I didn't like Perez take on the whole SM/WW thing, but i think Byrne was a bigger influence on it. You basically had SM being super self-aware and humble, while WW was conceited and vain. Then in... issue 16 of WW, i think? The follow up to their date you had WW feeling disappointed and thinking to herself that she was wrong about SM, that she thought of him as a god when he was just a enforcer of men's rules.

I don't know, it rubbed me wrong. They always show her worshiping him for some manner and pushing him to view himself as being of power.

>>
>>92017789

You can blame all of that on Mark Waid, though.

Waid himself confessed that when he wrote KC he didn't knew Wonder Woman at all. He thought she as an amazon came from a militaristic background and thus her spiel about spreading peace to Men's World made no sense. That's why he had her in the book trying to bring peace back to the world by any means necessary and pushing Superman to take more and more drastic measures because war was looming and in war you need can't give quarter to your enemies. Then he had other characters in the story, like Batman, telling just how dumb and contradictory her amazonian way was.

This of course created the mess we're in where now the characters is shown as this Xena-like character. All because a writer didn't knew the character well and decided to mock her based on his own preconceived notions of her.

People will never understand Marston's amazons.

It is very odd how it got itself lumped in the same little universe as Sandman and Hellblazer. Everything after Gaiman's work can be seen as its own little bubble. I haven't read all of PAD's Supergirl, but I remember it referencing something that sounds like Gaiman's closure of Hell from Sandman (Mists).

And you are right, there were no DCU cameos at all from what I remember in Lucifer. The only cameo I can think of was Constantine in an early issue, and Hellblazer itself was not main DCU. I forget, how did they explain incorporating him into the main DCU after Flashpoint?
>>
>>92017907

Honestly, Diana to me should be a character that understand war and even the horrors of it, but purely on a theoretical way. She grew up in a time when the amazons lived isolated and peacefully. She was schooled and trained, but she never seen or been in a war. The amazons lived in a blissful world where none fought over issues, got sick or even died naturally of old age.

Her foray to Men's World should be a tremendous shock, not only the cultural differences but the little natural things. Her first moment witnessing death should be a traumatizing experience because of just how alien it is to her. This should spun her to think of live as even more sacred. Not be this no-nonsense women who see death and carnage as a blaze thing.

Seriously, it always bugs me how writers feel like showing an immortal girl that lived in a isolated island as this battle-hardened chick only because her people had some martial training in them.
>>

>>92018134
>People will never understand Marston's amazons
Which really only goes to show that people are idiots.

Frankly, there's almost nothing TO understand, since the Marstonian Amazons are the most piss simple concept ever.

The mythical Amazons are assholes because they were invented as a cautionary tale about letting women do stuff. Marston Amazons are generally peaceful because Marston strongly disagreed with the Greeks. It ain't even remotely complicated, and yet people keep missing that point, either out of raw stupidity, or willing delusion. Either way, it's annoying as fuck.
>>
>>92018068
It's gonna be my first time reading it since it came out, and since I became a Wonder Woman fan.

My history with the character is that I first started reading DC (other than Vertigo books) with the New 52, and Wonder Woman was my favorite of the new books. And I felt the same way a lot of people less familiar with the character do, that she's the one who will kill if she must, that her powers should be reduced so she could use a sword, and I believed all the stuff people say about her not having any other good stories and her being constantly retooled and all that.

But I finally looked up recs and read Rucka's and Perez's runs, and the more I read the more I started to understand that she DOES have a very consistent, well established personality and mythos, and most of the things people say about her aren't true. And I started to like the New 52 run less because of how much of that history it simply disregarded and I even felt a little embarrassed for the things I falsely thought.

And then I started reading her Golden Age comics and reading about Marston and realized that the New 52 run was almost the polar opposite of it and in some ways insulted it.

So I'm sympathetic to people who think all those things, because I don't think it's coming from a place of stupidity or dislike of the character, I think it's just misinformation and assumptions. So instead of arguing I think the best way to show people why it is I'm such a fan of Wonder Woman is just to let them read the comics and they'll see everything I saw on their own.

Being told a character is good doesn't do anything, being shown is what changes people's minds.

I know, but if there's one thing I have to hand Azzarello's run, it's that it got a lot of people interested in the character who wouldn't be otherwise. Even including me.

I'm still not 100% sure that's what I'm doing next because the timing is bad with the movie. My intention was for people to read all these good stories and THEN read Azz's run, and maybe understand why a lot of Wonder Woman fans are resentful of it, but if we're gonna have a lot of new readers coming from the movie that seems more like Azzarello than Perez, it might be a bad idea.

That scene made me terrified of feeding dogs as a kid.

I think the movie will be a mix of the two, or more specifically the TV show plot with a bit of Perez and Azz here and there.

So you'll have the TV show dynamic, but with her murdering the fuck out of soldiers while also being nice and compassionate, and no one really pointing out the contradictory nature of that because this is an action movie and in action movies even the nicest guys ever with shoot the fuck out of some terrorist.

Now that is a good idea. The only thing I'm hesitant on is that I've only read a little bit of that so I can't put my own personal stamp of approval on it.

It's brought me far more joy and inspiration than misery, all in all. I imagine Diana would feel the same way about preaching peace and love to a world mired in war and anger.

Yeah I really do believe in Jenkins and to a lesser extent Heinberg, but then you have the needs of a Hollywood movie, the inevitable executive meddling, the obvious internal disagreement on the way these movies should be handled, and then Johns retooling the script. Now I love Johns, and I know he's gotten a little better with Wonder Woman, but I still just don't think he totally gets the character.

Eh, i already know the plot of the movie, so i've no worries.

I've only read a little bit as well. We'll experience it together.

>Granny Goodness disguised as Athena attempt to manipulate the amazons into becoming the Female Furies, with Wonder Woman being a big target.
Man, that is such an awesome concept, but the execution was just so dogshit.

Ares is in good faith, trying to talk Alkyone out of whatever crazy bullshit she's about to pull.

That is a very good point, I still believe she should understand the price of escalating and have enough experience that she brings a perspective most other heroes lack because coming from an isolated culture she would have learned to use a variety of methods to deal with problems from applying the amazon approach along side the methods others recommend, I meant to explain this but it was 3 am when I was writing that.
