That's vague, there's basically two. Tanabata 2014 with Moonblast and Tanabata 2015 with Heart Stamp and Play Rough.

Sort of. It technically works on newest version if you have Cubic Ninja or set up OoTHax/Ironhax before updating. Otherwise no, unless you buy Cubic Ninja. Check the flowchart on the OP for more info.

Your 3DS version is irrelevant as long as you have all the game updates. Since we can enter eShop with homebrew on lower version to download any possible update, they can no longer lock us out like they did back in 9.5.

It's hardcoded not to be shiny. If it can be shiny though an oversight (like WISHMKR Jirachi), it will technically be legal but still not be tradeable. But unlike Jirachi we don't even know if it exists because everywhere we can get Celebi it's programmed to never be shiny.

Well as I said, but didn't specify. I stopped with injecting a couple of months ago, after the forced update which ruined injection for a long time. I haven't played pokemon since and thus haven't been into injection threads either. And I descided that 5 boxes full of shinies really was enough. So it was more of a concious descision rather than failing at something. A few weeks back I tried to download Rune factory (an eshop only title, generally I only buy physical copies) and I got the message I needed to update, which I did. I only update when I absolutely have to.

But going by your post I realize I might have made a mistake, is the 10,1 update not required to access the eshop? If so I might still have 9,2. As I only updated the absolutely required ones.

It's the file extension of encrypted pokémon files. When injection first came out and this general started, we could only inject one pokémon at a time, and it had to be in .ekx/ek6 (encrypted) instead of .pkx/pk6 (decrypted) or else they'd become bad eggs. Later the methods were updated and we could inject a whole box, whole ram save and finally inject with just a QR code which also supported pkx, but the name was kept anyway.

Before I shamelessly request for mons for my Scrappy Skirmish team, is there anything I should know about trying to gen mons for myself (i.e., is the OP up to date)? I don't have ORAS yet, but I can go out and buy it right now. My 3DS is at 9.9 and I have Ironfall and YT Browser. The caveat is that the only PC I have available to me is a Linux machine (sup /g/) and I'd rather not have to fiddle with WINE (especially since this is a work related setup). Otherwise I guess I can shamelessly call friends to use their computers.

Yeah the OP is up to date. The flowchart should give you the answers. On the Linux thing you're out of luck if you don't want to use Wine though, you could use PCHex (homebrew pokémon editor) but it's very limited and inconvenient to use alone.
