I didn't manage to overtake the gym but I still did pretty well for msyelf. Did anybody else have a successful day?

So, /vp/
Out of all of the pokemon games I've played, pic related is one of the ones I never picked up. I have the opportunity to get my hands on a copy for relatively cheap. Should I get it and play it?

So I had an idea for a battle mode in where as opposed to building your teams competitively as usual, you build them like classes in a Role-Playing Game. As an example,

Cleric (Gardevoir) (F) @ Leftovers
Ability: Telepathy
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 252 HP / 4 SpA / 252 SpD
Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Heal Pulse
- Heal Bell
- Moonblast
- Light Screen

say you wanted a Cleric. So you'd build it like a cleric would play. Would like to clarify this is a highdea but I feel could be fun

So is there any actual way to get the right stats for a Pokémon by yourself or is it all random?
I feel that no matter how much CP, weight or height a Pokémon has the outcome after evolution will be always random.
For example, I evolved an XL Rattata and it wasn't XL as a Raticate.
Also, does weight and height even matter when being XL or XS? Do they actually affect the stats or is it a myth?
I don't know whether to keep Mons with high CP or with XL/XS values when transfering for candy.
