Species with a lot more males than females tend to have very small populations, so it's probably to signify why these starters can't be found in the wild.

How come they don't just buff older pokemon that are fairly shitty (eg. Ledian) by increasing and/or rearranging their stats to a noticeable degree in newer generations? They did it for a few pokemon in gen 6 already, but it was only 10 or so extra points in a single stat, which hasn't made most of them any more useful.
