Personally, I love them. It's like a super sayain mode for your pokemon. I also like how if you have multiple pokemon that can mega evolve, you can only choose one, which adds a lot of strategy to it, making you decide which mega evolved pokemon will benefit you most for that battle.

Could be. There are 25 new Pokemon revealed so far and 38 are currently know from evolutions and such. But let's not forget that X and Y revealed 48 new ones but ended up having 70+ leaving us with only 30 new designs in the game including a majority of evolutions

Since the new Pokemon game came out, I had a biking route to my local park that I would take everyday to catch Pokemon. Today, I decided to experiment on using a lucky egg and incense simultaneously (2:40-3:10) and got a 100% fail rate in contrast to my usual 70-80% capture rate. Are the effects really negative when stacked or am I just having an unlucky day?

Consider: "Rival" is actually an outdated term and a new word is needed.
Because not every character of this type actually does anything to indicate rivalry. (Like Brendan/May being more interested in filling up the pokedex).
And because we use the word "rival", Genwunners come out of the works to whine about how future characters aren't as cool or act as actual rivals the way Blue does.

Personally, I don't dislike the idea of having a few other recurring trainers that you're on friendly terms with, but I DO want a return to the old kinds of Rivals. Blue and Silver, y'know?
If you ask me, a good Rival gives you some kind of REASON to want to be better than them. Friendly sport is all well and good, but without that spark of true competition, how else are we supposed to get invested in our quest to be the very best, like no one ever was?
