This bothers me. Many Pokémon are based on ugly things or in origins that it's impossible to make a non-ugly Pokémon. It's ridiculous to think that a Pokémon based on a pile of garbage is bad design because it's ugly. And this is an easy example, there are many Pokémon that have an ugly design for many good reasons, and that's not bad at all.

Yeah, that's right, but think a minute. Do you remember any non-ugly Pokémon who you think that has a BAD execution? Now think again, if it's impossible to relate with a cute/badass Pokémon and its origin, is it well-designed because is not ugly? or it's bad design because that design doesn't makes sense?
Yeah, the execution is important, but not the perspective who many people thinks, at least in Pokémon. Alolan Muk is a proof of this: if Game Freak thought that an ugly Pokémon is bad design, GF had never created this Pokémon.
Just enjoy Pokémon.

So Silvally's cry sounds a lot like Arceus'. Kind of glad that past legendary pokemon are taking a role in a plot outside of their gen, seems weird that such important pokemon are only really paid attention to once.

Silvally's role in Sun and Moon will give more to Sinnoh's lore, this will probably be shown in the remakes.
I'm guessing that Team Galactic will use Silvally at one point, and that Gladion will use whatever type Silvally which counters your starter.

Silvally is clearly linked to Silver in all its language names and silver is prominent in its design.
What does this mean? Note also how Arceus' ring is gold coloured. If you take Arceus to be gold and Silvally to not-quite-be Arceus, that would make it silver.
Its design also seems to take some inspiration from this alchemical symbol for silver: see its front legs, tail and mane. I admit this part might just be a coincidence.

It's not necessary "silver", most likely "selva / silva" which means forest and in Latin it has also given birth to "savage" that means wild.
Wild itself has lot of interesting synonyms.
It's pretty much a beast after all.
I can see silver as element play the same relevance considering this generation however.
